AIR COMMITTEES AT GARDEN GROVE GARDEN GROVE, Sept. 15.—Following local committees have been appointed to make arrangements for local exhibits at the county fair; C. L. Lee, general chairman; H. A.ake, chairman of booth committee, M. Dozier, transportation; Mrs. R. Stillens, decorations; Geo. R. Keyburn and C. A. Emerson, adver-ag. Committee to secure products, G. Stanley, C. B. Henry, W. M. Island, A. A. Schnitger and J. O.arkley. The committee will meet Sept. 21st Just as soon as the transfer of the M. C. A. property has been made the Woman's Civic Club, a campaign will be started to raise funds or a club house. Already a fund has been set aside for this purpose. The death of Mrs. Phebe Jane Butler, wife of O. A. Butler, occurred Saturday evening, following an illness of several months. Phebe Jane Sutherland was born Hardin county, Ohio, in 1860, here she grew to womahood, and the age of 19 years was united in marriage to Alfred O. Butler, to which union seven children were born, five of whom are living (Mrs. Jason Malone of Barstow, Earl Butler of Garden Grove, Mrs. Carl Chultz, Santa Ana, Mrs. Guy Geor-e, Colton and Eldon Butler, Garden Grove). Mr. and Mrs. Butler continued to live in Ohio until 1908, when they came to California, settling in Gar-en Grove. All records for enrollment on the opening day were shattered at the ammery school Monday when the first day showed an attendance of 13. Attendance will reach 500 by the end of the month. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Crane and the latter's mother, Mrs. Reed, visited and with their daughter, Mrs. red Mott, at Laguna, Mrs. Reed maintained for a weeks' visit. Mrs. Geo. Oerly of Long Beach enjoyed a few days' visit at the pond of Mr. and Mrs. C Oertly back. S. W. Gage, accompanied Rev. Geo. Francis of Orange, and r. Russel of Santa Ana, went to ann Baldy Monday to attend ed their Sunday school classes of the Baptist bungalow Tuesday afternoon about twenty members being present.The time passed pleasantly at games, after which refreshments of ice cream and cake were served. C. C. Cornett left Tuesday on a two weeks' business trip to Fresno and San Jose. The Woman's Missionary.. Circle met all day at the beautiful ranch home of Mr. and Mrs Frank Bissitt near Fullerton Wednesday.The morning was spent in sewing,and at the noon hour a cafeteria lunch-eon was served. At two o'clock the president called the ladies to order and the business of the afternoon was disposed off, followed by an interesting program. Mrs. Gage led the devotions, each lady taking part and telling when they first became interested in missions, followed by the question box which always creates a good deal of interest.The remainder of the program was a conference,the heads of committees,speaking of the work in their departments,followed by an open discussion. The Whittier Community gusher, brot in early this week, after sanding up was swabbed out yesterday and came back stronger than ever.
