LONG BEACH MAKES 92,000 BBLS. DAILY With the Oil Operators The Apex Oil Co. one of the Vern Dumas organization at Long Beach has made good. This little company hardly three months old brought in its first well a few days ago at 1500 barrels. The well is located on the Freedman property and was completed by the Orange County Drilling Company. Apex Freedman finished drilling at 3208 and was completed in record time by a drilling company that is making a record. At 3400 feet Herwick No 7 a well that has attracted attention since the first stick of timber was put on the ground for the rig stopped drilling at 3400 feet and is setting a string of pipe. It is understood that the showings justified the move. Herwick is doing a great work for the Long Beach operators in going out beyond the proven field and opening up new territory and is entitled to the wildcatter's share. A remarkable increase in the production of the Petroleum Midway's 50-50 is of interest. The well was brought in at 3390 a 2500 barrel producer, the output steadily increased as the well got under headway and now the output is 3045 barrels, gravity 25, the oil is clean. The famous outposter Fields No. 1 at 3285 recemented a string of ten inch, balled down and was found to be wet. On the Harlow lease the Petroleum Midway has three new wells underway. Completion by the Shell Co. at Long Beach netted three new wells aggregating 5000 barrels. Alamitos No. 3 the largest well of the group was completed at 3450 feet and came in 2250 barrels. Andrews 2 at 34-12 went on a 2000 barrel producer. Nesa No. 1 completed at 3575 is making close to 700 barrels. The Standard Oil Co. has abandoned its fourth well at Long Beach. Alamitos No. 1 drilled to 5760 feet failed to show any oil. For hole the well was a masterpiece of rotary work. On the Lomita property the Standard is getting ready to drill a second well. Work by the Transport Oil Company on the Chateau Theirry property has resumed. The lease work was held up by the city litigation for a number of months. PATENT CASES AWAITING ACTION WASHINGTON, Sept. 13.—Altho the patent office is not only self-supporting but turns into the federal treasury upwards of $100,000 a year net profit, it can not function properly. Thousands of citizens are kept waiting for action on their inventions—a delay which may mean to them the difference between fortune and ruin. There are now 75,000 patent cases awaiting action. An inadequate office force is given as the main reason—inadequate help, insufficient aid crowded quarters all hamper the patent officials. In July 6,697 new mechanical inventions were filed, 1,346 trade marks. 209 prints and labels and 352 designs—in all 8,604 new cases added to the congestion. OLIVE'S SCHOOL ATTENDANCE LESS Olive's school attendance is less, Villa Park's is practically unchanged and that of El Modena shows an appreciable gain, figures issued today by Superintendent J. A. Cranston showed. Santa Ana's attendance is 20 per cent larger. The Orange schools will open next Monday, and the city is considerably handicapped by the fact that the new building will not be finished until Oct.1, contrary to expectation. The auditorium of the elementary school on Glassell street will be used for classes meanwhile. Radio business is about one percent of the sales of department stores. Work by the Transport Oil Company on the Chateau Theirry property has resumed. The lease work was held up by the city litigation for a number of months. The outlook for a well on the property looks good and the drilling will be watched with more interest than any other well in the field. The daily production of the Long Beach field has climbed to the almost unbelievable figure of 92,000 barrels. New production coming in each week has taken care of the declines and increases the output from three to five thousand barrels. It is thought the production will reach the 100,000 mark before another month. MAY LEAVE RICHFIELD PROJECT With Oil Operators The Amalgamated Oil Co. met with a fishing job at 4128 in the Placenta-Pacific. The well has shown no indication of oil and there is a rumor afloat that the project will be abandoned. The Standard's deep wells, two on the Kraemer and Kellogg No. 2 have not made producers yet. Kraemer 1-15A at 4800 feet is drilling in shell, Kraemer 2-17A at 4500 is on the pump doing about 60 barrels. Kellogg No. 2 the deepest well drilled in Richfield at 5660 has been tried out for production with small results. Deep drilling on a few of the Richfield properties have netted big wells, the Union's Morse and Y. L. G. for example, but for the most part nothing spectacular has been developed below 4500 feet. In the La Mirada District the Nevaded-Ventura has completed the rigging up work on 1A and is ready to start drilling. The Standard Oil Co.'s McNally No. 1 is drilling at 1500 feet and the Scientific is about ready to drill out the cement and make a water test at 3235. The Puente Hills will know its fate soon. The Chino-Corona United is getting ready to make a production test. Drilling was stopped at 4240, the hole reamed down and a production string set. The well has shown some indications of oil, but it is the consensus of opinion that it will be necessary to go deeper before getting commercial production. The Pomona Oil Co., has passed the 4400 mark without finding any oil and the well is beginning to look a little doubtful. The formation continues in grey sand and unless a change occurs soon there is little hope of finding oil. Drilling at Buena Park by the Standard Oil Co., holds interest now as a deep well only. At 4400 the outlook for a well has not improved, and the outlook for a "duster" seems imminent. The most interesting thing to happen in the Montebello field during the past week was the purchase of the eWstern Pacific by "Jimi" O'Donnell. The Western Pacific is located on the northeast side of the Standard's Balowin Hills property, and has not ben a very successful producer, but can be deepened and put into condition. At Seal Beach there has been no new developments, The Seal Beach Oil Co., did not drill out last week as schedule i, and the Henry R. Dabney. SATURDAY J. E.
