NEW DEVELOPMENTS AT SANTA FE SPGS. With Oil Operators Interesting developments at Santa Fe Springs brot this field into the oil lime light during the past few days. The Amalgamated's Butterworth No. 3 showing oil at 4570 seems to indicate a possibility of not all the Butterworth property being deep territory. The Coalinga-Mohawk's showing at 4228 failed to make an oil well and drilling is going ahead. At 4400 this well is in hard grep sand and will probably have to go to 4600 to get the production. A producer that is setting a new mark for high gravity oil is the Geo. F. Gety Nordstrum No. 1. This well completed at 3775 is making 2400 barrels of 32 gravity oil. The well is flowing under high pressure, making clean oil, and has all the qualifications for a long time producer. Getty is having the success at Santa Fe Springs that characterized his work at Long Beach. The Hamilton well on the south side of the field holds the interest of a large number of operators. This well at 1430 is in a hard sand streaked with shale. The shale shows traces of oil, but the sand is clear and shows no oil. It is believed that it will be necessary for this well to go to 4700 feet now in order to get the Bell sand. Some claim a good showing was passed at 3500 feet. If there is anything to this a test that may be made later will prove it. The Pacific Petroleum Co., is making preparations to bring in a 3000 barrel well on the Eagle property. At 3220 only 3 feet in the sand the well produced better than 1000 barrels. CYPRESS NEWS CYPRES, Sept. 13.(Spl.)—One of the most important deals in local real estate has just been consumated. G. L. McWilliams, a successful farmer and miller of Sorghum syrups, has purchased the C. L. Damron property, comprising nearly five acres at the southeast corner of Walker street and Lincoln ave. Mr. McWilliams will start moving his sorghum mill to the new property immediately. He will locate the mill near the P. E. tracks and will subdivide the remainder of the property into business and resident lots. This property has the best location of any in the district and will give Cypress a chance to expand when sub-divided. C. O. Ledford is erecting a neat little rent cottage on his place at Moody station. School began its fall term Monday. The new school house is not entirely completed but is accommodating the children very nicely. Miss Little has charge of the upper grades and Miss Burt the primary grades. Mr. and Mrs. George B. Mills are making preparations for an extended hunting trip into Ariz. They will leave by auto Sunday and will go direct to Jerome, where arrangements will be made for the journey into the mountains. Under test, and 100 feet in the sand and under production conditions the predictions should be fulfilled. A number of wells at Santa Fe Springs are nearing completion and will probably be in before the end of the week. Among the number immediate prospective producers are the Co-operative Oil Syndicate, Doyle-Clue, Jameson, and the Union Oil Co. A NATION-WIDE INSTITUTION Penney Co.
