Saturday, Sept. 9, 1922 THE ORANGE REAL MAIN EVENT AT ARENA LAST NIGHT (By Sargum Sprout) THERE was a main event at the fight arena last night that will be long remembered by the several hundred faithful fans who attend. In the torrid action of the main event the good and the bad of the rest of the show was forgotten. Joe Chancy had his chance to show against a high class boy in the person of Johnny Ray; Joe took advantage of the chance and made one of the greatest fights ever pulled off in four rounds. Joe pilled up a good lead in the first two rounds by clean work. His straight lefts and right swings landed regularly. The only times Ray was able to get in any effective work was in the clinches; he would hold with his left and jab away at Joe's body with his right. In the third, Ray came out with a do or die determination and in the great mix up that followed, took the third by a comfortable margin. Joe did not weaken or let up and landed some telling blows but Ray was fighting like a tiger and got in the most blows. The fourth started off with botan boys determined to win. Ray started off like a whirlwind and seemed to have the Whittier flash groggy in the first minute but Joe proved to the world that he can stand and take 'em and beat the other man at his own game. The last minute saw Joe rocking the stronger lad with rights and lefts to the head and body until Ray was a very bewildered boy. It seemed that the worst Joe would get in this round was a draw, which would have given him two rounds to one, and the bacon but the judges called the bout even. Ray is a strong, celver fighter and was a favorite over Joe, but we will tell the whole broad world Joe had a shade in last night's fracas. Joe is showing more power behind his punches, he has always had the speed, and last night he proved that he has the indurance. Anyway last night's main event had the bugs on their feet all the way and all felt that they had received ARENA CHOSEN FOR WRESTLING MATCH At a conference this morning between officials of the United Theaters, Inc., and Roy Mabee, it was impossible to use the Grand Theatre for the coming match between Mabee and Santel as renovation of the place will be started immediately and it will be in no condition to stage the meet. Mabee has made arrangements with Billy Darnley, manager of the Anaheim Athletic Club, to stage the event in the open air arena on the Sugar Factory grounds north of Anahiem, Tuesday evening Sept. 19. No paints will be spared to make this event the biggest and fastest staged in So Calif. A fast prelim will proceed the Mabee-Santel match for honors. Roy, the pride of Anaheim's sport fans will start working out on the mat at the Elks club next week. For the past week, the wrestling-rancher has been in constant training with Carl Johnson on the mat at NEW FOR SALE—C. D. McDowell, Buena Park. FOR SALE—F. 2c per lb. and mile south of Hurst. C. T. Seven get in this round was a draw, which would have given him two rounds to one, and the bacon but the judges called the bout even. Ray is a strong, calver fighter and was a favorite over Joe, but we will tell the whole broad world Joe had a shade in last night's fracas. Joe is showing more power behind his punches, he has always had the speed, and last night he proved that he has the indurance. Anyway last night's main event had the bugs on their feet all the way and felt that they had received their moneys worth. In the curtain raiser Pete Pina subbed for Eddie Dale in a farce with Jack Munoz. This thing did not bear any resemblance to a boxing match. The judges called it a draw and we figure one is about as good looking as the other. A little lip stick and powder just before going into the ring might help. Tex Jones took the place of Jimmy Musso who was over in Santa Ana Canyon fighting a balky Ford. Tex put up a real fight against the heavier Babe Orton. Tex displayed a left jab, a la Danny Martin, that kept the Indian from using his heavy artillery most of the time. Tex is coming along nicely. Again the draw decision was given. Bennie Heller and Young Montoya put up a fast and furious bout in their little argument. The first little Mex kept out of the range of most of Heller's high explosives but vorbed a few. In the third, Jennie caught the Mex with a right to the head that almost upset him but Monta came right back and sank a right in Bennies bread basket that wilted the Parris warrior for a moment. It was a great draw. The much heralded semi-windup was a one man fight and nothing extra at that. Kid George made a dismal failure at a come-back. Byrd might show up pretty good with another man in the ring. He appeared willing and floored the Kid once before the Kid got on to clinching. It was a good evening's entertainment at that, one rotten bout, one a little less, rotten, two good bouts and one whale of a scrap. Primary education in Mexico is free and compulsory for ages six to 16. ANAHEIM FEED & FUEL COMPANY Hay, Grain, Seeds, Poultry Supplies Fertilizers, Wood, Coal, Sprays and Insecticides Public Weigh Masters RECORD CROWD AT B. B. GAME SUNDAY As a result of Anaheim's 5 to 4 victory in ten innings over Pasadena in last Sunday's opener of the three game series for the So. Cal. Elks baseball championship, the biggest crowd of Anaheim rooters that has yet assembled is expected to motor to Maler park at Vernon tomorrow afternoon. The locals are keen as mustard, the only fly in the salad dressing being the possibility that Eddie Dunn, the smooth-working third-baseman may be called to the bed-side of his brother in Denver, Early in the week he received a wire that his brother was very sick. A latter message stated he was some better. Captain Bus Callan has been working out with Harry Hughes and Herb Salveson this week and either twirler should be ready for duty tomorrow. If either man is going right, Pasadena should experience a lot of trouble. SARGUM SPROUT TO ATTEND THAT GAME By Sargum Sprout If nothing happens the Sprouts are going to see tomorrows ball game at Vernon. We have not witnessed the local prides in a game this year. We are bugs on baseball and if you hear an extra rooter just remember old Sargum has turned loose. We boys organized a ball team away back yonder and thought we were some pumpkins till we ran into Jack Pendleton and his Carmeto pals. They did us dirt. Jack covered the infield like a shower of rain. Our base hits he converted into outs and we were snowed under. This same Jack was a big factor in winning last Sundays game. I am going up to root for the little black headed shortstop on whom time has no effect. Let's go. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound for a soreness in my side. I would suffer so badly every month from my waist down that I could not be on my feet half the time. I was not able to do my work without help. I saw your Vegetable Compound advertised in a newspaper and gave it a fair trial. Now I am able to do my work and don't even have a backache every month. I cannot praise your Vegetable Compound enough and highly recommend it to those who have troubles like mine. I am willing for these facts to be used as a testimonial to lead all who suffer with female troubles, as I did, to the right road to health."—Mrs. LULA VANN, Box 43, Fulton, Arkansas. Its this sort of praise of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, given by word of mouth and by letter, one woman to another, that should cause you to consider taking this well-known medicine, if you are troubled with such symptoms as painful periods, weak, nervous feelings, miserable pains in your back, and cannot work at certain times. Here is a woman who is so grateful and glad to be relieved from a painful and nerve racking physical condition that she wishes to tell all sick women. YORBA NEWS YORBA, Sept. 9.
