CHANEY IN DEBUT IN MAIN EVENT TONITE
JOE Chaney, Whittier flash, gets his big chance tonight when he meets that piece of fighting machinery, Johnny Ray, of Tacoma, in the main event of the Athletic Club's weekly boxing show. This will be Chaney's debut as a main eventer and if he makes good will be a big drawing card in future shows.
Joe has trained faithfully and is in the best condition of his career. He will have no excuses. Joe is confidence all-over that he will beat Ray decisively inside four rounds. He is hitting a lot harder than formerly and showing a world of aggressiveness.
The Whittier lad has lost but one fight since he started boxing one short year ago and that, a close decision, was given that good colored boy, Young Burton, about this time last year. Since then, Chaney has evened the score by winning a well earned verdict over Burton.
Ray is not worrying in the least. The Whittier lad has lost but one fight since he started boxing one short year ago and that, a close decision, was given that good colored boy, Young Burton, about this time last year. Since then, Chaney has evened the score by winning a well earned verdict over Burton.
Ray is not worrying in the least over the outcome of tonites melee. He figures that his win over Paddy Dillon who has fought Chaney to five draws entitles him to a win over Joe.
The semi-windup bids fair to outrival the main go as far as action is concerned for Jimmy Byrd and Kid George are two big boys with a knowledge of boxing and can sock and with either mitt. Byrd stopped, big Buck Jones recently at Delhi while George put his man to sleep in the second round at El Rio last Friday.
The preliminary, brings together those two good little fellows, Bennie Heller, the K. O. King from Perla, and that fast Placentia youngster, Young Montoya at 118 pounds.
Jimmy Musso, a promising boy from San Bernardino will try to show Babe Orton, from Redlands, all the boxing gloves in the world.
Earle Dale, a willing youngster from over Placentia way, will meet Jack Munoz, a newcomer from Garden City.

FINE ORANGETHORPE SCHOOL BLDG. DONE
The attractive new school building at Orangethorpe is receiving the finishing touches, preparatory to opening the fall term Monday, Sept. 18. The building is of tile and cement with tile roof. It contains four class rooms and other smaller rooms. Much new equipment has been added and the older articles all refinished and modernized.
The faculty is composed of the principal, Charles M. French, and two other instructors, Mrs. D. E. Lewis and Mrs. V. W. Rainey. Art and music is taught two days of the week. There are 120 pupils, and the course is from the first to the eighth grade, inclusive.
The building, which was begun in May, was constructed under the watchful eyes of the present board of trustees, President J. M. McDuell, E. F. Bloodgood and Herman Allgeyer. It is one of the most commodious rural school buildings in the southern part of the state and one of which the district is justly proud.
