THE ORANGE COUNTY
ANAHEIM WINS 1ST PASADENA CONTEST
ANAHEIM won the opener of the series with Pasadena for the So. Cal. Elks championship Sunday afternoon at Vernon by the score of 6 to 5 in 10 most bitterly contested innings. It was a real ball game from start to finish.
Night here it may be said that Pasadena has a strong ball club and Anaheim hasn't won the series yet. If there are any weak spots in the Crown City crew, they didn't show up Sunday. Anaheim apparently has Pasadena shaded only in the department of pitching. Both teams used two moundsmen. Anaheim garnered 16 singles, just twice the number that Pasadena sent safe.
Pasadena hit the ball rather frequently but it was fielded. Glenn Callan pulled down two files in centerfield, Ray Bush four in left and Schrott three in right. Schrott, fielding a single in deep right, by a perfect peg, cut off a runner at third that opend the eyes of the Pasadenans.
Hughes fanned six in seven innings and Salvenson two in three. Burris, of Pasadena, fanned three in five innings, and Manker, who replaced him, fanned two.
The ball game started out tensely. Pasadena, which took the role of the visiting team, started off with Cocherell singling, after Sinclair flew out. Then came a brilliant play by Johnny Pendleton, the Anaheim shortstop who is always there in a crisis. G. Haas grounded a nasty ball of second which Jack grabbed up, touched the bag and threw to first for a double play. In the Anaheim half, Pendleton lead off with a walk, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. Burris seemed to have difficulty in keeping the ball up, a number bouncing on the plate. On another passed ball, Jack tried for home. Leon, Pasadena catcher, received the ball and threw to Burris who covered the plate. Umpire Ferguson called him out. This was the nearest to a score until the last half of the fourth when three singles in a row by D. Bush, R. Bush and Schrott put D. Bush over the plate. This looked mighty big until too close.
CHANEY MEETS RAY IN FEATURE EVENT
Joe Chaney meets Johnny Ray in the main goof of the Athletic club's weekly boxing card Friday night. Matchmaker Billy Darnley greatly encouraged by the reports of the excellence of last week's bill and much refreshed by his week's vacation in th mountains, is going to treat fans to another still better program if that is possible. Billy will have to "go some" to do that for last week's bill was one regular 'humdinger' from start to finish. However, Billy is confident all over that he can put over another 'big one'.
In bringing Chaney and Ray together, Darnley believes it will be his 'Ace in the Hole' for both these lads have been slinging compliments at one another for several weeks. Ever since Ray beat Paddy Dillen at the local arena Chaney has been after Hay's scalp. Friday night will tell whether he is of real main event caller or not. Any boy around this neck of the woods who can not only hold his own but actually boat such boats or Joe Lawsman and Goa.

off with a walk, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. This looked mightly big until two Anaheim half of the fifth when Mr. Burris was subjected to another fussade of five safe hits, good for three tallies, making the score four to nothing. Pasadena rooters were gloomy, but not for long.
In the sixth, everything went wrong with the loacls. There was a single and triple, two men were hit by pitched balls, there were three errors, and when the dust had settled, three counters had been hung up. In the seventh, a walk, passed ball and single tied the score. That is the way it stood until the first half of tenth when Pasadena scored again on two double-base swats. It now looked gloomy for Anaheim, especially when the first man grounded out. D. Bush singled. R. Bush walked. Schrott hit safely for the third time, filling the bases. Salveson proceeded to win this own game by rapping out a safe one, scoring D. Bush. Pendleton heroically rapped out another safe one, sending over Schrott with the winning score.
The game was played before the biggest bunch of rabid bugs which have ever seen the Anaheim team in action.

Cincinnati, Ohio.—"I suffered for a year with nervous troubles and irregularities before I took Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. My back pained all the time and I was unfit for housework. I was worn out if I cooked a meal, and was unable to do my washing. My girl friends and my sister told me if I would take your Vegetable Compound and Liver Pills I would be relieved. After taking the first bottle I felt better, and neglected it awhile, but found I could not do my work until I was stronger. So I took the Vegetable Compound again and now I am the mother of a 19 months old boy. He is fat and healthy and I am sure I could never have carried him if it had not been for your Vegetable Compound. A STEADY INCOME
Along with a peaceful, joyful home is indeed something to plan and look forward to.
It is not everyone who can go right out and purchase a bearing, income orange grove and home, but there are many who could, if they would, make a payment on a young orchard and see it grow, as their own, into productivity, larger value and income, making their future payments from their present business earnings and eventually having a grove worth many times more than what it may be had for today.
Have us tell you about two beautiful young groves we now have to sell on easy terms and at less than their actual value. One is 7½ acres at $10,125, the other, 6½ acres at $8,437. The two together would make 13¼ acres at $18,562 and we can arrange reasonable terms, also to care for them at a nominal charge until such time as you will be able to do so yourself.
Do not besitate to learn more about this splendid property from us. We assure you of our sincerity and desire to help you acquire your future income home.
