PHONE EXCHANGE GROWING RAPIDLY (Continued from Page One) 607 against $19,612 on Jan. 1, a gain of 25,995, or 3.17 per cent. The telephone system is a unit, and every improvement in facilities of one part affects every other. Inventions also benefit the entire system, because they are generally adopted wherever practicable. These inventions have been many and of the most progressive character including everything in the way of devices to improve and cheapen communication. The telephone has distinct advantages like every other method of communication that are all its own. The radio telephone, for example, while it is superior in some respects requires a cipher if privacy is to be maintained, and a cipher is cumbersome to individual and corporation alike, because of the deciphering required. The radio telephone broadcasts weather reports, frost warnings, calls for aid from ships at sea and airplanes in air. It and the telephone supplement each other. One of the most far-reaching plans applied in the company's organization is to make every employe a stockholder. All of the local employees are purchasing stock, according to Manager Beard. No payment is required down and payments amounts amount to $3 per month. The stock is sold to them at $110, although it now is at about $127 per share and pays $9 per year at par of $100. Today the exchange is serving 1627 subscribers. During the last three months Anaheim has enjoyed a gain of 1000 outgoing toll calls. The total number of in and out toll calls per day averages 1290, or roughly 240 calls per hour. Out calls alone average 230 per day. The six operators handle 200 local calls per hour, or 9600 per day on the average. GOLFERS' NET A practice net for golfers that has been invented in New Zealand catches and holds a ball at the point where it enters the meshes. ANAHEIM H. S. Be rid of it. Try Doan's Kidney Pills. Your neighbors recommend them. Mrs. S. B. Kramer, 238 N. Lemon St., Anaheim, says: "An operation weakened my kidneys and about two years ago I began to suffer from pains across the small of my back. My right kidney felt as though it were swollen and ached dreadfully. I had dull, dizzy headaches, too. My housework was often neglected. I was so run down and my kidneys didn't act right, until I read of Doan's Kidney Pills and used them. I got Doan's at Heying's Pharmacy. They cured me of all signs of the trouble. The backaches left and my kidneys were regulated." Price: $60c; at all dealers. Don't simply ask for a kidney remedy—get Doan's Kidney Pills—the same that Mrs. Kramer had.
