DEMAND FOR WOOD WITH COAL SHORT The extreme shortage of coal is creating a great demand for wood. It was announced today by a member of Hatfield, English and Gow, wood-cutters, who are clearing a 33-acre gum grove about seven miles west of Anaheim, which they purchased recently. The demand is much greater than they can supply, one Los Angeles firm making a contract for the whole grove on the ground and an order coming in yesterday from a San Diego firm for 20 carloads, this firm being too late to get their order filled. It is said that just year the wood could hardly be sold at any price. It was said this morning that word from Iowa is to the effect that coal can be gotten by no one but wheat threshers, and that the people are likely to suffer from cold this winter. It is agreed that this is a good winter to be in So. Cal. SANTA FE LEASE SANTA FE LEASE, Sept. 1. He is a protege of the world's champion diver, Clarence Pinkston. TO FIGHT PROFITEERING MR. FORD'S PLAN Henry Ford, it transpires, is not closing down his great plants because of shortage of coal or because he fears a shortage. His purpose, it is announced, is to combat what he alleges to be a systematic attempt to force up the price of coal in the eastern market to exorbitant figures. His purpose, it is asserted, is to take up the gage of battle against conscienceless profiteering in coal. This being the case, the public will wish Mr. Ford well. His fellow-manufacturers, while perhaps not joining him in closing down plants entirely as a protest against high fuel prices, yet will hope that Mr. Ford succeeds in besting those who would reap exorbitant gains. Everything possible should be done by the government and by private interests to protect the people against profiteering in fuel this fall and winter. Plain Dealers Want Ads bring results. BUFFALO BILL WAS BURIED IN COLORADO Doc Clancy, physical instructor at the Elks Club, takes exception to an article in the Plain Dealer in which BUFFALO BILL WAS BURIED IN COLORADO Doc Clancy, physical instructor at the Elks Club, takes exception to an article in the Plain Dealer in which it is mentioned that Buffalo Bill is buried at Cody, Wyo. "He is buried on a high mountain near Denver," says the doctor. The Plain Dealer stands corrected. It is not anxious to deprive Colorado of any distinction. Colorado has lost enough, what with Doc Clancy, Eddie Dunn, Bud Holland and a number of other now well known Anaheimers having left it in the cold.
