COAST ROUTE IS NEARLY COMPLETE (Continued from Page One) the Ford dealers of the territory within a radius of 300 miles of Los Angeles, the exhibitors in this big power demonstration include the majority of leading manufacturers of industrial and agricultural equipment throughout the entire United States. "The opening of the show in Los Angeles is the start of a series of these expositions which will cover San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas and Salt Lake City and which will continue until the middle of November. Included in the exhibits will be a Fordson tractor equipped with locomotive wheels, operating on railroad tracks, hauling loaded cars; a conveyor device mounted on a tractor, and utilized for loading and unloading gravel, sand and other heavy materials; hoists of all kinds; portable saws mounted on the Fordson, and many other unique labor-saving devices. A compete line of road building and maintenance equipment, including graders, rollers, scrapers, plows, dump bodies, etc., as well as power lawn mowers will be shown. Tractors will be shown operated by reins from the driver's seat. "The tents will be lighted from a 250,000 candle power electric lighting plant operated by a Fordson, giving an excellent illustration of the unusual power of the engine when used for belt work. The practicability of using the Fordson for road hauling and trucking will be shown in the many types of trailers of five and ten-ton carrying capacities, which can be successfully utilized with the tractor as motive power. Of particular interest to those who are concerned with irrigation problems will be a large pump installation in action. "The agricultural exhibit will contain many implements especially developed for operation with the Fordson, and of particular interest to the fruit growers and general farmers of the southwest. This part of the exhibition will feature several new models of tractors and agricultural machinery." JAMES TIRE MARKET (Continued from Page One) Racine Horseshoe tires. PLANT James, the vulcanizer, Nenno & Beck and George Dunton, local Good-year distributors, always have their tire racks well filled and have always prided themselves on having a complete stock of tires to meet every need of their customers. It made them open their eyes, tho, when they learned that the Goodyear factories had completed their 45,000,-000th tire and were already speeding toward the 46,000,000-mark at an average of 26,000 casings per day and that the Los Angeles plant had produced more than 1,300,000 tires to date. Forty-five million tires! They'd weigh close to a billion pounds, based on present day tire-building formulas that call for 11½ pounds of rubber and 48-19 pounds of fabric to the average casing. Forty-five million tires! Goodyear built them in 22 years, but Methuse-lah, working at the present factory would have had to live 75,000 years would have had to live 75,000 years to complete the job. How much mileage do you suppose is packed into that tremendous output, figuring conservatively that each tire is good for 7000 miles? Enough for 423 round trips between the earth and the sun, the distance between these two planets being a mere matter of some 93,000,000 miles. Tommy Milton, travelling at his world-record speed of 154 miles an hour, would need about 69 years for a one-way trip with no time taken out for sleep, food and the taking on of supplies. "The agricultural exhibit will contain many implements especially developed for operation with the Fordson, and of particular interest to the fruit growers and general farmers of the southwest. This part of the display promises to reveal new developments in agricultural equipment, which has been made possible because of the adaptability of the tractor to agricultural requirements. "Invitations have been sent out direct by the Ford Motor Co. to manufacturers, contractors, municipal officials, and various lines of industry throughout the southwest, and it is expected that many thousands of interested spectators will view the Ford display," concludes Mr. Dunton. The fact is evidenced every day in buying and in the great factories where automobiles are manufactured. There is no question about automobile buyers getting more value for their money today than they ever before, but the manufacturers are offering their products at prices low enough to make the buyer careful and watching for even greater value, say Turton & Lumsdon, Maxwell and Chalmers distributors. "The predominating question that is asked every merchandiser of automobiles, after he has "sold" a prospect on the capabilities of his particular product, concerns the resale value of his automobile," says C. A. Doyle, sales manager of Union Motors, Maxwell distributors for So. Cal. "In times gone past, when automobile owners were few in number and cars were not sold with the frequency that marks advancement of the industry today, the owner did not care so much about what he could get for his car by turning it in on a new car. "The case today is different. The Maxwell factory, according to figures that have been sent out in the National Used Car Dealers' Ass'n's valuation report, have set a remarkable record in keeping the resale value of the new series very high. The average value listed for used Maxwell open cars is placed at $812, a depreciation of but $73 off the factory list price of the car. These figures are for a period extending over 6 months. "The report is a demonstration of STUDEBAKER'S HALF YEAR REMARKABLE Incident to reductions in the prices of all Studebaker cars, effective Aug. 1, the Studebaker Corp. Erakine, makes the following statement: "Although we have on hand unfilled orders for -5,000 cars, it is a Studebaker policy of long standing that our manufacturing savings be shared with our customers—hence the reductions. The quality of Studebaker cars has not been decreased one iota. On the contrary, they are better than ever and offer the greatest values in the history of Studebaker. "Studebaker plants, representing the investment of $38,000,000, operating at capacity, produced 60,000 cars the first six months of this year, and broke all records. Everybody knows that standardized cars manufactured complete in large quantities, reduce the cost of manufacturing and marketing and therefore give the greatest intrinsic value per dollar of price. "By manufacturing complete motors, transmissions, axles, frames, bodies, tops, castings, forgings and stampings, parts' makers profits on such items in Studebaker cars are eliminated and one profit only is included in Studebaker prices. Buyers benefit accordingly. "With $78,000,000 of actual net assets, including $38,000,000 of plants, and an organization of able experienced men and workers who participate in the profits of the business. Studebaker stands unsurpassed in resources and ability to manufacture economically and give maximum intrinsic value for a given price. "The world-wide popularity of Studebaker cars rests upon their dependable performance in owners' use. Proof of their dependability is found in the fact that our sales of repair parts, covering repairs from accidents as well as service, for the past seven months, averaged but $7 per car for the 400,000 Studebaker cars" WHAT DURANT IS: BY JIM APPLIANCE Just some reminders from E. The local distributors have been handicapped like all others by the failure of cars to arrive, following the railway strike, making it impossible to ensure deliveries. Yesterday seven touring cars and three roadsters were unloaded here. The distributors are expecting a carload of parts, but don't know when they will reach here. To date 436 tractors have been sold by Dunton. The machines sold from experienced men and workers who participate in the profits of the business. Proof of their dependability is found in the fact that our sales of repair parts, covering repairs from accidents as well as service, for the past seven months, averaged but $7 per car for the 400,000 Studebaker cars now in operation. In the 30 months since Jan. 1, 1920, we produced and sold 186,000 Studebaker cars and are now producing and selling at the rate of 125,000 cars per year (practically double last year's volume, which was the greatest in the history of Studebaker) and yet our total sales of repair parts this year are less tahn they were for the first seven months of 1919."
