BRIDE ELECT IS FAVORED WITH SHOWER PARTY PRETTY courtesy was shown Miss Agnes Mills Thursday evening by Miss Louise Acosta, in compliment to her marriage to Mr. Erwin Roberts, of Arizona, which will occur August 26. The party, a miscellaneous shower, was attended by the close friends of Miss Mills, who, although maintaining her home in Anaheim with her mother, Mrs. Oliver Mills, is a teacher in Arizona and spends most of her time in the neighboring state. After the guests were all there, Miss Acosta, the hostess, made a presentation speech, referring to launching upon a new life, etc., and gave her a heap of dainty packages, which disclosed a lot of lovely gifts. Several were sent by invited guests who were absent from town also. Gentlemen friends of the guests dropped in lister in the evening, among them Mr. Roberts, the groom-elect, and with Mrs. Ethel Schroeder at the piano and Harold Mills on the saxophone, an impromptu program of real merit was greatly enjoyed. Present were the Misses Laura and Florence Murch, Rena Kelsay, Mrs. Ethel Schreeder, Mrs. William Miner, Mrs. Louise Glbson, Mrs. Mills Messrs. Ervin Roberts, Joe Harger, Cleve Mills and Harold Mills, and the hostess. Dinner Dance Tonight With permission to bring two friends each, members of the Hacienda Club will attend the dinner dance this evening in the new temporary clubhouse. Entirely appropriate to the season and to the location, floral decorations from the surrounding hills will be used, which Sew for Near East Relief The Sunshine Philathea class, taught by Mrs. F. T. Edmiston, met Thursday at her home for a busy all-day session. The time was spent in sewing for the Near East Relief, and considerable work was accomplished. The covered dish luncheon proved to be a real feast and provided the day of labor with an interval for recreation for an hour. Attending were the Misses Mattie Lou Robertson, Mackey West, Lcona Dickman and the Mesdames Rena Wheeler, Clarence Hertzler and Alta Peck. Miss Marjorie Rains, a popular member of the class, who has been enjoying a long vacation in Washington, will arrive home today and again take up her activities with the class. Live Missionary Meeting Despite the vacation days which have taken so many members away from town to the mountains, to the seashore and even to the east, there was a good number of ladies present at the missionary society of the Prebyterian Church which was held at the home of Mrs. T. S. Grimshaw, yesterday afternoon. The president, Mrs. H. A. Hawley, presided and the devotional exercise war lead by Mrs. Grimshaw. Music was furnished by the Victrola. Miss Kate Rae gave a fine exposition of the Shantung province as to its possessions, its commercial and mineral wealth and the missionary work being done there. Mrs. M. E. Beeber read a fine article on work in the lumber camps. Quite a little business was transacted followed by a social hour, during which light refreshments were served. Plans are made for entertaining about one hundred dinner guests who will enjoy the excellent dance music and well polished floor later. Two hostesses from Anaheim were chosen, but were unable to serve through absence from town. Fullerton and Whittier will each be represented on the hostess committee. Greet Returned Motorists To greet the Raines family, which has just concluded a two months' 6,000-mile out journey, taking them as far north as Vancouver, B.C., and arrived home yesterday, a reunion was held last evening. As the dinner table is one of the first considerations in American hospitality, an excellent repast was enjoyed at 7:30. Later, music and singing, interpersed with stories of the wonderful glacier formations gave greatest pleasure. The party included Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Rains, Miss Marjorie Rains, Clarence and Allan Rains and George Rains, and the Misses Anita Herzler, Voma Rains, Mytila Winters, George Bogue and George Rains. The convention will continue until Wednesday. Although Anaheim Young People's Society is not sending a delegate, the messages will be brought back by the many delegates from Los Angeles, among the ma grand vice president, Thomas Connelly. Big Bear Vacationists A jolly party of Anaheim folk will leave early tomorrow morning for Big Bear Lake, where they will spend the week. Different entertainments are planned for the week and a good time is anticipated by all. In the party will be Mr. and Mrs. William H. Houts and daughter Pauline, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Woodhouse and Mrs. Mae Lord of Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs. Martin and daughter Thelma, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Barnes and daughter Alma of Whittier. Concordia Club Picnic The Concordia Club will have a basket picnic tomorrow in their park at West Broadway, all members, their friendr and families cordially invited. There will be dancing with the Schmidt's orchestra and entertaining by the singing section of that club. No doubt they will have a good time, as usual.
