California Is Cleared Out of Maxwell Cars California has rarely if ever been barer of Maxwells than now, say Turton & Lumsdon, distributors of the Maxwell and Chalmers, and Chalmers cars also are none too plentiful, following the cut in price. Prospective purchasers are advised to put in their orders at once, if they don't want to be delayed. No Maxwells will arrive here for 10 days, says the local firm, and only one Chalmers is left. The Chalmers has been cut $245 to $1445 delivered here. Sam Moore of Placentia has purchased a Chalmers and C. Harrison a used Maxwell. Such a photoplay is coming to the California tomorrow, and the patrons who witness this play will see one of the finest pictures ever shown in this city. The picture, entitled "One Clear Call," starring Henry Walthall: Claire Windsor, Milton Sill and other notables, make up the remarkable cast. John M. Stahl, the great producer of this picture, who has numerous other masterpieces to his credit proclaims this as his most wonderful play. There is not a finer actor on the silent sheet than Henry Walthall. Any number of critics state that "One Clear Call" is his most spectacular effort. The picture is filled with tense human interest action, and when the play fades out there is hardly a dry eye in the audience. It is well worth seeing. Among the added attractions will be another thrilling chapter of "Robinson Crusoe," which will be shown at the Sunday matinee only. Of packed with Earl Farris in Denver; Shop Here Very Busy Anaheim may not have an automobile factory, but it has something ap- proaching one in the shop of Earl Farris at 226 South Los Angeles-st. Farris rebuilds tops, covers cars with fabricoid in any one of two dozen shades, and in fact does anything required to bodies, to improve their appearance. The shop has been enjoying a good run of business. Alden Farris is in charge for a week or two in the absence of his brother, who is visiting their parents in Denver. Earl Farris is making the trip purely for pleasure, but is keeping his eyes open meanwhile for new ideas in his specialty. thrills, and the kiddies should be on deck tomorrow to see it. Lavell Gordon, noted Canadian tenor, will be on the same program. He will present several splendid selections, and is certain to be a favorite here. Of course there will be other superb added attractions on the bill and DeWitt Reese, Anaheim's popular organist, will be at the console of the big Wurlitzer with many brand new numbers. LA HABRA ITEMS LA HABRA, Aug. 12. (Spl.)—Saturday evening a long looked for event is scheduled to take place, the opening of the Lumsden and Evans, drug store. The new pressed brick block of the aL Habra Investment Co. at the corner of Hiett and Central-sts will be formally dedicated by this affair. This building has been erected at a cost of $50,000 by this company and is a very handsome structure vying with any metropolitan building of its size in the county. There are two store buildings, with a hotel in the second story. The corner store will house the new drug company. Charles Lumlsden is a well known Standard Oil man, and has resided for several years in La Habra. He and Mrs. Lumlsden have been prominent in every forward movement of the town. R. M. Evans, better known, in the world of sports as "Sweed" Evans, has an international reputation, having been captain of the U.S.C. foot ball team in 1920, and was in Belgium as the representative of the U.S.as a discus thrower. The interior will be finished in gray oak, and this tone will be carried out in all the furnishings. A ladies rest room will fill a much needed want here, it is said. This will be provided with dainty toilet articles, and easy chairs. This is on the balcony at the rear of the store. A fountain and ice cream booths are a feature of the store. Mr. Evans is a registered pharmacist, and both young men are thorough business men. Next week will see the planting of seven acres of land in North La Habra heights to avocados by J. H. Walker, cashier of the First National bank. The trees have been grown on the Walker ranch and will be planted in terrace form. This will be only one of the improvements to be made in this section, as nearly all of this land that a few years ago was thought fit only for a sheep pasture is subdivided and sold. Avocados will be the principal fruit crip planted here, as this is considered nearly frostless. A new front is being installed in the dry goods side of the Hilbert Mercantile establishment. Sales First 6 Months 1,138,000; New Record The fact hasn't been generally made known, says George Ennis, of the Automotive Electric Company, that the automobile industry in June established a new record for sales of cars and trucks. The total was 271,000, which exceeds the May record by 15,000. This brings the aggregate for the second quarter of the year up to 746,000 and for the first half year to approximately 1,138,000. The total for all of 1921 was 1,668,000. The gain for June alone was 51 per cent. The increase in sales means a 20 per cent jump in the 10,500,000 registration in the United States. It means an increase of nearly one-third in battery equipped cars. Baldwin Refrigerators save ice.
