Bringing in new production is a regular thing now with the Amalgated Oil Co. at Huntington Beach. Huntington No. 7, completed at 2785 ks like a 300 barrel well. On the wiler lease No. 4 at 3317 is starting at 400 barrels and is producing gravity oil. Pearce 5 a deep wellpleted last week at 4076 has insured its production from 800 to a 100 barrels and makes the outlook deep sand production at Hunting-Beach look very encouraging.
The Interstate Oil Co. is about to the Vista Del Mar No. 2 on pro-duction. This well was started two years ago, met with all kinds of dif-filies and battled with water for a r. The Interstate is believed to be the water shut off and the well position to make production at 17. At one time the Vista Del Mar down over 2900 feet, but was gged back to trece out water con-ons.
The Invader Oil Company another biennial that got into Huntington which early and has stayed late is put to realize. Invader Miller No. has been completed at 3450 and is taking about 100 barrels.
Another deep well of interest at Huntington Beach is the Mosier Spe-ks Krahlung No. 1. Finished at 8 feet this well was put on the tap a few days ago and started offting a 100 barrels of fluid oil and er.
Im O'Donnell scored again with a barrel well making 27 gravity O'Donnell's second success waspleted at 4036 and again demon-ites what is down below the top at Huntington Beach.
The Pacific Petroleum Co. (E. J.ey) succeeded in getting its No. 1 kk on production. The old well re-led and put in production condi-tat 2845 is making 350 barrels. Seven hundred barrel well at 0 feet is the latest accomplish-ment of the Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Co. Huntington. This deep heavy pro-er was brought in on the Curtis porty on the north side of the 1.
The old Pantages-Huntington is to down after the deep sand. The has been taken over by Frank Blake former Standard Oil man C. C. Krone a Richfield operator. Se men are both skilled operators should bring in something good the well that made history when Huntington Beach field first ted.
Here is reason now to believe that West Seamoard Oil Co. is going young and the company has experienced varied financial circumstances and several times a change of name. Making hole at 4250 the formation is showing a nice oil sand that carries lots o foll and gas. With bring-in in cf a 4000 barrel well on the City of Long Beach Reservoir Hill the possibilities of the great Long Beach field have gone again beyond all expectation. Prior to the arrival of this great gusher oil men were beginning to delineate the field and setting some imaginary boundaries at least. Now the productive area has been moved northwest fully another mile, and the getting of such a big well would make it appear that the field may extend on to Wilmington.
The Jergins City well is a wonder when it is considered that it is flow-ing thru 8½ casing, there is no perforated in the hole, no tubing or packer. The great body of oil is coming 3000 feet up thru the big casing. The Jergins City tract contains 140 acres and the first well makes it look like one of the greatest oil properies in the state.
General Petroleum success at Long Beach is getting to be a matter of course. Completing the K, & H.No. 1 at 3200 feet the G.P. brought in another 2700 barrel well producing 27.5 gravity oil. From four wells this company is getting more than 10,000 barrels of high gravity oil. The famous Black-Drake 1 is in the oil sand at 3100 feet and will be on production in a short time. This is the well that drenched the Hill with oil several months ago and its return is being watched with interest.
The thing that will interest more people in So.Cal than the bringing in of big wells at Long Beach will be the knowing that the Cal-Tex Oil and Refining Co. secured a water shut off on the Kirkpatrick well. The Orange County Drilling Co. did the trick by putting in 70 feet of 4% thinner at 2977. On drilling out the cement the water was found to be shut off and the Mining Bureau has put its O.K.on the job. The McVoy screen pipe is going in and the well that has had northwest side operators guessing for almost a year will be on production in a few days. The well has shown quantities of light oil and there is little reason to believe that the Cal-Mex will get nothing less than a big well. The well represents an effort almost superhuman on the part of Vern Dumas head of the company. Dumas located the well-when things did not look god on the north and west side, he financed the company at a time when it was almost impossible to raise money. Dumas is due for a lot of credit, and people who have put their savings in the Cal-Mex are to be congratulated on the able young and the company has experienced various times a change of name. GETTING BACK
What You Pay For a Car
The first day you drive your new car, you begin to get back what you paid for it. Your car should earn its cost by its constant readiness to serve you and its perfect performance on the job.
That car runs longer and better which carries with it the sincere interest of the dealer who sold it. Service has come to be recognized as the thing which keeps the car on the highway—something that helps the car to serve its owner. There are many undesirable kinds of service offered to the car owner today, and for that reason the good dealer maintains an institution that can always deliver whatever may be needed by the cars he sells.
We conduct our business so that Ford and Lincoln owners can get a full measure of worth out of every one we sell.

PROPOSE TO WHIP DOPE SELLERS
LONDON, Aug. 10.—British judges hope soon to enforce the "cat o' nine tails" as an addition to terms of imprisonment to men found guilty of selling "dope" to girls.
The public outcry against the dope sellers has been further swelled by the description of the living room of one of these sellers recently sentenced. Writing to the London Times, a king's councillor says:
"Picture the prisoner's room as it was described by the police!
In it were phials of morphine, a bottle with traces of cocaine, an opium pipe, a pocketbook containing drugs and a "dope" list, a revolver and a number of very indecent photographs.
"The worst of poisons, poisons which dethrone the reason and destroy self-control, firearms and obscene photographs! Can anyone imagine the fate of these girls, who, in their innocence, entered that arsonal of vice?"
This man was sentenced only to six months.
The public are demanding that men of this kind should be given six years and a horsewhipping, with the "cat," into the bargain.
FISH, GAME EXPENSES LESS
SACRAMENTO, August 10.—Although the State Fish and Game Commission constructed and equipped a $25,011 research laboratory at San Pedro during the last fiscal year and broke all records in trout culture by the propagation and distribution of 26,000,000 sporting fish, the records of the department show total expenses for 1922 are $16,428 less than in 1921, says a report.
George Neale, executive officers of the commission.
Neale also announced the revenues of the commission, including license fees and fines for law violation, were $13,278 greater than in 1921.

LAWLESSNESS IN U.S. TOLD TO BAR ASS'N
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 10.—The United States is the most lawless nation in the world today, according to a report made to the American Bar Ass'n by Judge William G. Swaney, chairman of the law enforcement committee of the association.
The report showed that since 1910 there has been "a steady and terrible increase" in homicides, burglaries and robberies throughout the country. Criminals number a little*less than one-third of one percent of the population, the report declared.
LEARNS OF JEWELERS FORMER SENTENCE
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10.—Haunting shadows of his past life stalked before the eyes of R. E. Lomax, a well known local jeweler, with a store in South Broadway, when the gem dealer was scheduled today to appear before Justice Forbes for a preliminary hearing on a charge of having purchased unset diamonds stolen from the home of Mrs. Mary L. Rowman, 332 South Westlake-ave.
Local police claimed that, following Lomax's arrest, they uncovered information to the effect that the Los Angeles jeweler was paroled from a penitentiary after having served part of a 12-year sentence.
POLICE SHOOT PACK OF KILLING DOGS
SACRAMENTO, Aug. 10.—Mrs. Mabel Belardi, who declared she would give her life for her dogs, was helpless against the law and her pet pack of 18 dogs which she admitted killed A. Biese, a neighbor ranchman, near Antelope, died under a volley from the shotguns of Humane Officer H. J. Winters and his deputies.
In the county jail here today where she was held with her husband, Loris Belardi, for further grilling on the death of Biese, Mrs. Belardi wept for her dogs.

The General Petroleum has acquired a habit of bringing in big wells and making the other operators gasp. In the last week the General Petroleum brought in four wells that adds 10,000 barrels of new production to the field. Santa Fe No. 52 completed at 3818 is producing 3289 barrels. Santa Fe No. 85 went on production at 3765 making better than 2600 barrels. This well was put on a test to determine the existence of water between the Bell and Fox sands. The big triump is Santa Fe No. 91 completed at 3809. This well is making a barrel of oil for every foot drilled.
The Shell Co. is beginning to hit the pace at Santa Fe Springs and has two nice wells. On the G. H. N. lease No. 1 completed at 3821 a 2100 barrel well was brought in. No. 2 at 3761 came in at 1600 barrels.
The Twin Bell Oil Syndicate has its first producer, Grohs No. 2 completed by the Keck Drilling Co at 3511 is doing 700 barrels.
ARTIST ADMITS ENGLISH ART SLUMP
LONDON, Aug. 10—Modern art in England is on its uppers.
The recent confession of C. R. W. Nevinson, British artist with an international reputation, that his average net earnings were only $75 a year for the past four years, has raised the question, "What's wrong with England's art appreciation?" Nevinson says:
"Artists are not wanted. People would rather have an enlarged photograph of one of their hidous babies than spend money on a picture."
Nevinson and his wife, according to the artist, have managed to subsist only by drawing on their savings.
ABLE SPEAKER IN I.O.O.F. HALL SUNDAY
A. F. Newcomb, manager of the Wright Law campaign, will be here Sunday morning to address from the platform of the Calvary Baptist church, in I. O. O. F. hall, on "The Only Way to Meet America's Gravest Peril." He will again speak in the evening, using another topic, however.
Anybody desiring enlightenment on the Wright law, which was introduced by T. M. Wright in January, 1922, passed by the latest legislature signed by the governor, referenced by the liquor interests and will be voted upon by the people at the election, November 7, will have the opportunity to hear a splendid delineation of the proposed measure by attending the service.

the big well is putting 3800 barrels of 32 gravity clean oil into the tanks. Springs 1 sometimes called the Aggee well is back. Redrilled and cleaned out to 3922 Aggee 1 is making 660 barrels. Sixteen thousand barrels of high grayity oil is what the General Petroleum is getting from 6 wells. The record is unique in the history of California Petroleum development. These big wells have all been brought in under the personal supervision of "Mike" Burrows who for years has been recognized as the greatest production expert in the west.
The Shell Co. is beginning to hit the pace at Santa Fe Springs and has two nice wells. On the G. H. N. lease No. 1 completed at 3821 a 2100 barrel well was brought in. No. 2 at 3761 came in at 1600 barrels.

The Nevada-Ventura is skilling the rig to a new location and will be starting another well in a few days. Complications of pipe and tool troubles at 3800 feet resulted in the loss of the hole. It is the intention of the Nevada-Ventura to come back and recover No. 1 as soon as No. 2 is placed on production. The Nevada-Ventura chose the extreme south side of the Santa Fe Springs field a year ahead of the drill, got satisfactory oil showings and is fully justified in going ahead with a second well even though the first was not placed on production.
At Richfield development work is slowing down, but the field has not lost any of its old time interest. The Amalgamated Oil Co. completed a 250 barrel well on the Thompson property at 3375. Drilling on the Placentia-Pacific No. 1 is now at 4155 and as yet the showings have not been very favorable.
The Standard Oil Co. is making preparations to put Kraemer 2-17A on production at 4493. This is one of the deepest wells drilled on the Kraemer property and its showing will determine future deep drilling.
At Buena Park the Standard Oil Co.'s Mitchell No. 1 is approaching the 4000 mark. To-date the showings have not been very encouraging, and appears now that if production is obtained it will be quite deep.
The Allied Petroleum Co. is due according to the present outlook to be the next Montebello producing company. The Allied secured a water shut off at 3660 and at 3800 feet is getting some very nice oil showings. The Allied has been in the field two years and is deserving of success.
The Union Oil Co. put its Redondo well Francis No. 1 on production a few days ago. The well was drilled to 3900 feet and pumped 75 barrels of oil and sanded up. It will not make a big well.

HAMMER VICTIM'S
LIFE TOLD IN DAIRY
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10.—In the diary of Alberta Tremaine Meadows, made public today by the district attorney's office, after having been kept secret since her murder on July 12, there is but a single mention of Armour L. Phillips., the man whose wife, it is charged, killed her because she believed her a rival for his affections.
That single mention occurs in an entry nearly two months before she was beaten to death with a hammer on Montecito drive. On April 22 she writes in her diary:
"Lillian and Glenora went to Mt. Wilson on Easter. I went to church and to McElroy's for dinner. Met Mr. Phillips."
