YOUNG CHAP IS HOST AT PARTY ON FIFTH YEAR MASTER ALLAN, five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. V. W. LaMont, reached that dignified age Saturday, and to make the event more memorable, he invited a number of his young friends to help him celebrate. The young guests played games in the afternoon, both indoors and out. Popcorn balls were given the young folk. In the late afternoon Mrs. LaMont called the children into the dining room and they found their places at the prettily set table. Favors of small candy baskets of candy and miniature automobiles were given as souvenirs. Ice cream and cake were served to the guests who included the Misses Ruth Schmelzer, Audrey Harshman, Dorothy Ingram, Lella Fisher, Masters Victor Schmelzer, Joseph and Theodore Roberts Jr., Earl Harshman, Victor LaMont and the host, Allan LaMont. Art Gallery Opening The formal opening of Laguna-Art exhibit was held Saturday night with a public reception. Informal invitations were issued and a large attendance helped make the affair a success. About fifty canvasses were hung and comments of admiration and delight were heard on all sides. Included in the exhibitors were the works of several famed artists from a distance, as well as those of note who maintain their studios in Laguna Beach. The colony of artists in the beach city grows each year and these exhibits have done much to spread the fame of the pretty summer resort. Observe P.-T. A. Other places they visited included Mariposa and Toulumne groves, returning by way of the coast route to Monterey, and took the seventeen mile scenic drive from Pacific Drive to Mt. COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO OPENS TONITE These dynamic words, so well known to those who have read Alexandra Dumas' wonderful "Count of Monte Cristo" came to life this afternoon at the California theater, when the famous motion picture "Monte Cristo" flashed upon the screen for the first time locally. The theater management was quite right when they billed this picture as one of the really big super-feature of the current year. It is more than that. It is one of the greatest pictures ever produced. From the time the first titles flash upon the screen until the final fade-out, the audience is held in breathless suspense, and thrilled through with the tremendous action contained in the marvelous picture. Few pictures have been shown locally that have the smash that "Monte Cristo" contains. The cast, including sterling John Gilbert, the star; William V. Mong, who takes part of the wily Caderouse; Robert McKim as Villefort, the arch-villian; Virginia Faire as the faithful and faithless Mercedes, and others equally great do immense credit, not only ti this superb picture, but to the entire motion picture industry in general. The true-to-life dungeon scenes; the escape; the finding of the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo; the return of the Count of Monte Cristo; bent upon vengeance; the duel; the tense court scenes and the other equally thrilling points in this story are graphically portrayed to the best possible advantage. Here is a picture that ought to be remembered by Anaheimers for the balance of their lives. The theater management has taken great pains to present this photodramma in the best advantage, and DeWitt Reese at the Wurlitzer simply makes the musical end of the production breathe with pathos and fire. This picture will remain at the California theater over tomorrow and Wednesday. Everyone is urged to see it. Mr. and Mrs. L. Z.
