NONOGENERIAN IS HONORED BY BIG FAMILY REUNION
A occasion of particular delight was the big birthday celebration for the beloved grandmother in the family, Mrs. Mary O. Kellogg, at her home on Ball road, in honor of her nineteenth anniversary. Thirty-eight members of the family, big and little, passed the day with her, and enjoyed the sumptuous turkey dinner served at one o'clock. A lovely birthday cake graced the table and was a portion of the desert course. It was iceed in white and carried sixteen pink candles, as the honoree declared she felt just that many years of age. The cake was baked by Mrs. H. Clay Kellogg, wife of a deceased son, and bore the figures, "1832-1922." Concealed in the cake were many symbolic gifts, among them a wedding ring which most appropriately was in the piece served to Miss Helen Raab, an October bride elecct. The thimble went to Mrs. Winifred Raab.
Mrs. Kellogg has seen this country grow from a sandy plain to the present thriving community, as she is one of the earliest pioneers. Crossing the plains in 1852 the party located in Napa valley. In 1869 Mr. and Mrs. Kellogg purchased 640 acres in what now is West Anaheim, and for 53 years this has been the family home. Here her nine children were reared, and their families now number 33 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
The afternoon was devoted to music and listening to the wonderful memories of the early days as related by the revered honoree. Her mind is keen as a girl's and she reads a great deal, keeping well abreast of the times.
Members of the family privileged to pass the day with Mrs. Kellogg were Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Kellogg and family, of Van Nuys; Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Bird and family, Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Butler, Mr. and Mrs.
Wonderful Auto Journey
Mr. and Mrs. Arland Mason and daughter, of South Spadra road, have just returned from an auto trip to the north, visiting friends and relatives in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. They were in Vancouver, B.C., on Dominion Day; July 1st.
En route, they stopped at many places of interest. About three days were spent in Mt. Ranier National Park, there being a skating contest July 4th. They had a fine view of the great glacier from a point reached by a trail about one-and-one-half miles above Paradise Inn. Two days were spent at Crater Lake National Park. There, a boat ride was enjoyed on the sapphire blue lake, seven miles wide and one thousand feet below the rim of the crater. There is but one approach to the lake by way of a trail one-and-one quarter miles long, which is partly covered with snow. Their itinerary included a drive over the Columbia river highway and Puget Sound drives.
In all, they traveled more than 2700 miles and met several Southern Calif., auto tourists. Among them were the Edwards, Kreighbaum and Hager families, Dr. and Mrs. Lindsay and daughter, all of Fullerton, and the Tobin and Schlotter families, of Anaheim.

WINSTON CHURCHILL BUYS FAMILY GHOST
LONDON, July 25 — Winston Churchill, colonial minister, is planning to buy a home with a family ghost, a moat, and a buried treasure.
The house is that which—after being untenanted for 12 years, was bought in 1920 by Miss Chirley Kellog, well-known musical comedy star. It stands in 220 acres of ground in East Barnet, near the residence of Sir Thomas Lipton.
The ghost which goes with the mansion is said to be that of Geoffery de Mandeville, Earl of Essex, one of the most turbulent of the Norman barons who disturbed the reign of Stephen. According to some historians, he was killed at Maidenhall, in 144, but others say he was concealed in the grounds of the "Little Grove" as the mansion is known, and fell

The ghost which goes with the mansion is said to be that of Geoffery de Mandeville, Earl of Essex, one of the most turbulent of the Norman barons who disturbed the reign of Stephen. According to some historians, he was killed at Maidenhall, in 144, but others say he was concealed in the grounds of the "Little Grove" as the mansion is known, and fell into the moat where he was drowned.
His ghost still walks, it is authoritatively stated by the villagers, being disturbed by the fact that there is great treasure chained to the bottom of the moat.
Quite recently a secret chamber was discovered in the building which contained some valuable works of art—a consideration which should appeal to the secretary who is an artist himself.
