GOODYEAR CROSS-RIBBED CORD TIRE STURDIEST AND MOST DURABLE YET
No tire which the Goodyear Co. of Calif., has made is superior in value to the new cross-ribbed cord, distributors here say. Officials of George Dunton, Nenno & Bock and James the Vulvanizer are agreed that this is the Goodyear tire par excellence.
It is a big, sturdy, long wearing tire that will satisfy the most particular buyer on every point of mileage, quality and price.
It is designed especially for the man who wants all the advantages of first grade cord tire performance at the lowest possible price.
It is designed to offer the buyer a quality product at a price even lower than he has formerly paid for a "long discount" tire.
It has a different tread than the famous Goodyear all-weather tread cord—a tread with a deep, clean-cut, gear-like pattern—and its selling price averages about 20% less.
Like the all-weather tread cord, its foundation is genuine high-grade long-staple cotton.
Like the all-weather tread cord, it embodies the efficient group-ply construction, a Goodyear patent.
Like the all-weather tread cord, it is the product of an experienced company which has a world-wide reputation to safeguard.
The cross-rib cord is made in all popular cord tire sizes because of its full oversize construction it is interchangeable with all other standard oversize cord tires.
For you who desire first cost saving in a dependable, guaranteed cord tire, the Goodyear cross-rib cord tire is the logical tire to secure from your nearest Goodyear service station.
Accidents Due Largely To Carelessness, Claim
“There is a carelessness in parking cars that causes many accidentes,” said A. J. Ralph of the Auto Club of Orange-co.
“Many motorists slide in and out of parking spaces with no regard for the paint, fenders or hub caps of other cars. Were greater pains taken by all, the insurance companies would have less damage bills to pay.
“Sifting down all accidents, we might say that more forethought, a little more care on somebody’s part would have avoided all trouble. If every motorist would watch his step, not transgress any traffic laws, be a little more tolerant of the other fellow, the number of accidents would materially decrease.
JORDAN'S OUTPUT IN JULY ABOVE JUNE'S
Production of the Jordan Motor Car Company for the second quarter of the current year exceeded production in the corresponding period of 1921 by 63 per cent.
In spite of price reductions, the volume for the quarter exceeded last year's volume by 91 per cent.
Jordan is now producing at the rate of 12,000 cars annually.
July production will exceed June in volume, and indications are that the enclosed car demand will carry this company through the last six months period of the year at capacity.
Only three manufacturers listing their cars at higher prices than Jordan exceeded the Jordan output during this period.

Where Are The Dead?
What Says the Bible on This Subject?
Does a person after death, go into eternal punishment if evil and eternal bliss if good? Do the dead pass on into some other world or condition of being? Are the dead able to communicate with the living? Or are the dead really dead without feeling or intellect? As the definition of the word itself implies, Christians and students of the infallible Word of God should be able to answer any of the above questions which are perplexing a great many people today.

Knowledge Is Money With Battery, Claim
In view of the fact that many motorists are preparing their cars for the summer vacation tours, automotive education, in whatever branch it may be, never goes astray when given to automobile enthusiasts for their consideration. Few motorists know much about their electrical system; or the source of its power, in the storage battery, and many of them are afraid to touch it, but with a little care, it is possible to keep a close watch and lengthen the life of the battery.
"Internal trouble of a battery," say West Bros., Vesta Battery distributors, "will often be brought about by the accumulation of sediment in the bottom of the jars, bridging the grids containing the elements and causing a short circuit between the plates. The use of distilled water will keep the cells free from this trouble.
There are three ways in which a battery may be 'sniphated'; when it is improperly charged, excess of acid needed to the electrolyte, or from internal short circuit of a cell by sediment, due to the use of other than distilled water or leaking of a cracked cell.
The connections of a battery should be loosened and cleaned occasionally, in order to get a good contact. Sometimes the terminals will become corroded to such an extent that the self-started hesitates in operating.

OVER HALF OF CARS MADE IN U. S. FORDS
"How many Fords were sold in June?" is a question that has been frequently discussed by Ford fans during the past month. The enormous total of Fords purchased by customers in May has aroused a great deal of interest in the production figures for June. A dispatch just received from the Ford factory by George Dunton, authorized Ford and Lincoln dealer, states that June brought forth the highest production in the history of the Ford Motor Company with a total of 148,439 trucks and tractors. Of this number, 6,054 were sold by the Ford Company of Canada and 9,435 by the various European Ford Companies and South American Branches thus reaching purchasers in practically every civilized country in the world.
Ford's total sales for the first six months of 1922 were well over the half-million mark, the exact figures being 652,261.
July Ford sales are expected to equal, and probably eclipse June. The estimated output of cars, trucks and tractors has been placed at 151,767, altho dealers have enquiries more than 200,000. Ford officials state that every attempt has been made to supply their dealers with sufficient cars to fill their orders, but that for the past three months prompt deliveries have been impossible with some of the types. The demand for Ford enclosed cars has been especially strong, due to the ever-increasing popularity of the coupe and sedan for all-year round use.
A reflection of general business conditions is seen in the record of Ford truck sales, which show an increase of 84% over last year. Merchants and farmers alike have come to recognize the utility of the motor truck in cutting transportation costs and speeding up deliveries.
As the total production of all makes of cars in June was in the neighborhood of 271,000 and Ford production was in excess of 140,000 it is apparent that the Ford Motor
Maxwell's Victory In Economy Run Notable
The ability of a car to surmount difficult grades and go through so-called "heavy" road conditions where the going is necessarily hard and slow is chiefly responsible for economy of that car on long runs. That is the concensus of opinion of a majority of automobile drivers who have had a great deal of experience on the open highway as well as through city traffic.
It was because of the ability of the Maxwell to perform in rugged country that the annual economy event staged out of Santa Rosa was captured by that car, says its driver, George K. Cole, according to first reports of the run, which reached the headquarters of Union Motors, Inc., Southern California Maxwell distributors. The run was held through the mountain country, doubling back to the Pacific Ocean before returning to Santa Rosa.
The Maxwell's winning ten mileage, figured upon the same basis as the recent Camp Curry economy run from Los Angeles, was 33.16 miles per gallon. The car was strictly stock and had been run only 600 miles before entering the contest. Cole's description of the run tells actual conditions encountered by the car. "The route," he said, "was from Santa Rosa by the state highway to Healdsburg, from Healdsburg a detour to Geyserville, Geyserville to the state highway again and through the Geysers. This part of the road is 15½ miles long and averages 11 per cent grades all the way. We had covered 49 miles at the Geysers, and, according to our gasoline gauge, had used up, in that time, less than two gallons of gas."
From there the route lay thru Cloverdale, Skaggs Springs, Stewarts Point, Russian River, Sebastapol and Petaluma,
The remarkable mileage made by the Maxwell was due to the fact that the car was able to negotiate the majority of the hills in the high gear and never found it necessary to touch any low gear with the exception of

Deduct items not possessed by other rival cars, and the difference in quality between items that are possessed in common by the Chevrolet and its rivals and you'll realize what you're getting for your money, said Dinnis.
The improved service, including a parts room in which Chevrolet owners can get at once practically any part they wish, has been a considerable factor in the enlarged sales of the distributors. June's wonderful record of 53 cars for the company and its local branch is being followed up with lively sales during July.

Gear Shifting Defect In Small Bore Engine
Occasionally discussion is heard these days on this side of the Atlantic as to the practicability or impracticability of the small bore automobile engine. A prominent pioneer automobile manufacturer of this country recently returned from Europe where he made a close personal investigation of European motor car manufacturing and practices. According to him, the small bore engine is popular in Europe largely due to economic conditions which do not apply in America.
"In Europe," he says, "motor car taxes are based on the bore of an automobile engine. This has resulted in manufacturers striving for an efficient small bore engine with a long stroke—thus evading taxes. This coupled with the fact that gasoline retails abroad for around 75 cents a gallon, has given the European engineer a decidedly different problem to face.
"It must also be taken into consideration that the small bore European engine is not as long lived as our American engines, because these engines must revolve at a higher rate of speed, to be powerful and efficient."
"In this country, where gasoline is far cheaper, and where taxes are based on horsepower, we need not go to extremes on the small bore engine. Beyond a certain point American engineers are pausing, in this country, and considering carefully how far they can go safely on this small bore, high speed engine development. We must not overlook the economy side and the influence on long life and low rate of depreciation of running an engine at high speed.
Another point to be considered in this connection is the fact that the gears on a small bore, high speed car have to be shifted oftener, and the average American driver does not like to be fussing with or changing gears too frequently. Americans will not accept European engineering use.
A reflection of general business conditions is seen in the record of Ford truck sales, which show an increase of 84% over last year. Merchants and farmers alike have come to recognize the utility of the motor truck in cutting transportation costs and speeding up deliveries.
"As the total production of all makes of cars in June was in the neighborhood of 271,000 and Ford production was in excess of 140,000 it is apparent that the Ford Motor Company continues to turn out more than half of the automotive products sold in this country," says George Dunton. At the present time, Ford is employing 75,000 men at Detriot.
Kelly-Springfield Tires Cut 18 P. C.
Think of being able to save 15 to 18 per cent of $5.00 to $8.00 on a Kelly-Springfield cord—just the same, splendid non-skid, full oversized cord you've always bought! But you'd better hurry, says Clyde S. Williams, manager of the Anaheim Vulcanizing Works, which has the exclusive distribution of the tires here.
The same cut is in effect on fabrics. Inquiries have been multiplying at the shop for both types of pneumatics.
The distributors have been receiving quantities of the tires to meet the demand.
These Kant-Slip tread cords are 100 per cent durable and every one dependable. There are plenty of them us that have seen 10,000 to 15,000 miles and are still in good condition. They positively will not cut or rot. And the standard warranty goes with them. On top of that is the personal guarantee of the Anaheim Vulcanizing Works, to say nothing about their service.
Remember, this is the only Kelly-Springfield service station in the city

Americans will not accept European engineering without certain modifications to meet American conditions. Unless they can develop a small bore engine that requires little gear shifting, it will be difficult to get the small bore idea across from a sales standpoint in this country."

Velie Uses “High” When Others “Low”
A report of C. W. Temple’s tour of the West in his Velle for the last year, has just been received by the Velle dealers, McGraw Bros., of Fullerton. Temple as a veteran motorist waxed enthusiastic over car capabilities today that even a few years ago would have been deemed impossible.
“We climbed difficult passes in the mountains in high gear,” he said. “After sailing up one pass on high, we had to wait a long time for some people that knew the route. They explained what a hard climb it was. I didn’t know it. I took that pass on high.
“Listeners said it was the first time in history that it had ever been done on high.”
On his return, Temple tried out the new Velle 58 with Velie-built motor. He asserted that the new power plant marks a still greater advance, and promptly possessed himself of a model 58 sedan.
