MABEE HAS LONG LIST OF VICTORIES IN CAREER ON MAT Roy Mabee, Anaheim's wrestling rancher who meets Taro Miyake, champion Japanese wrestler and world's leading exponent of jiu jitsu, at the Grand theater next Tuesday evening, has a big stack of newspaper clippings telling of prowess on the mat in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona when he was at the height of his wrestling game before stopped short off when he got married. He was known as the "Frank Gotch of Oklahoma" and sporting writers were liberal in their perception that if he would keep with the game a world’s championship was in the offing. He met and defeated such men as Delivuk, the Austrian, Fritz Hanson of Omaha, Paul Gertig, Demetral, Fred (Demon) Bartel, Jack Sanders of Minneapolis, H. F. Mayes, Bob Managoff, Chas. Rentrop, the light heavyweight champion of Germany, Curly Miller, and others. Zbyszbo, giant Pole, at that time world’s champion, failed to win in a handicap match with Mabee. That Mabee’s recent successful proposal to put more than one wrestler to the mat in an hour was nothing new for him is seen from a newspaper account of an affair at Hollis, Okla., in which he pinned the shoulders of eight men, leading huskies of the country thereabouts, to the mat in 40 minutes which was 20 minutes less than the hour in which he had agreed to turn the trick. At Mangum, Okla., he flopped ten huskies in 42 minutes. Mabee’s wrestling career has not been without casualties. In his match with Simon Deschler he suffered a fractured rib. However, he won the first fall and Deschler agreed to call it a draw. Once, while speeding on a motorcycle to keep a wrestling engagement at Plainview, Tex., he collided with an auto and suffered a fractured ankle and knee. He was laid up in the hospital for some time and several pieces of bone were removed. BASE BALL Starting Second Half of Schedule for So. Calif. Division of Calif. Elks’ Baseball League. Hartfield Optometrist and Optician THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA RUBIDOUX RARIN' FOR MARTIN MATCH Little Ad Rubidoux, San Bernardino bearcat, is all set and 'rarin' to go in his main event with Danny Martin, fast Tacoma fighter tonight. Rubidoux won his go last night over at the Gate City where he boxed Los Mason, a tough 118-pounder from San Francisco. Mason gave Ad a good fight but the San Bernardino boy was always away out in front. His punches would have stopped a less tougher and gamer fighter than Mason. Ad showed all his old time speed and snap and his hitting was from his knee. His physician asserted he would never be able to wrestle again. Local fans will testify differently. Despite the fact he hadn't wrestled for eight years before this spring, Mabee says he feels he's as good a man as ever. His recent appearances here have been more than satisfactory to local fans. Affording an idea of his strength and condition, he can whistle Yankee Doodle while an average man with one hand squeezes his windpipe for all he is worth. Tickets for the match next Tuesday evening go on sale today at the Elks' club and United Cigar store. heavy throut out the mill. Rubidoux never had a mark on him after the fight and after a good night's rest and a little limbering up this morning he will be in prime shape to give Martin another of his real battles. The Tacoma boy is not saying much but, the dope is being circulated around that there will be a new 'bearcat' crowned—around this neck of the woods tonight. The bout is attracting no mean attention and it wouldn't be surprising if the boys played to the S. R. O. sign. It promises to be one sweet ill ol' battle 'while it lasts. Both boys will weight in at 118-lbs. Kid Louie is after the winner. The semi-windup between clever Joe Chaney and Texas Jack Burman should also be productive of much fast ringwork. Fans hereabouts all know how Chaney is improving right along and they realize that it is going to take a mighty good boy to take his measure right now. Matchmaker Darnley believes that he has picked out a tartar in this Burman lad for Chaney tonight and Billy ought to know for Burman has boxed for him numerous times up at Santa Barbara. Darnley says he is a rattling good boy and that if he is anything like his former self, Joe Chaney will more than have his hands full. In the preliminaries, fast and torrid action is assured for some good boys are on the bill. Our old friend from over Delhi way, Al Fredericks, will meet Bud Baker, a hard-hitting 112-pounder from over Orange way, and it will undoubtedly be some fight Clever Art Espinosa is out to redeem himself in his set-to with that fast, colored lad from Covina, Thad Warsaw, as is also Kid Wirt, the boy who failed to show his manager, Al Sparkes, the class that he is supposed to possess when he ran a foul. Tex Jones, the Texarkana wonder, last Friday. Bill Russell, the Palm-st slugger, says that he will raise more than the curtain, when he faces Wirt tonight. Billy Darnley will referee all bouts. The time of starting is 8:30 o'clock. Let's go. The advance ticket sale is reported as the heaviest the club has experienced. Ladies are admitted free with scort to the ringside and reserved seats (first row ringside excepted). CALIFO Star IN HIS L D.W.
