HUDSON PRODUCES
THE 175,000TH CAR
The Hudson Motor Car Company and Essex Motors, during the week ending June 24, produced their 175,000th Hudson and their 75,000th Essex. The Hudson Super Six was turned out shortly after noon on June 20. Essex No. 75,000 followed on June 22.
The Hudson Motor Car Company, in producing its 175,000th car, believes that it has built more fine cars than any other manufacturer in the world.
Officials of Essex Motors likewise believe that their feat of producing and marketing 75,000 cars within three and a half years from the date of organization gives them a record that is shared by only one other automobile company in the world. In its first year, 1919, Essex set a selling record never achieved by any other organization during a similar period, according to H. R. Grove, of Townsend & Medlay, local Hudson-Essex dealer, has just been informed by Essex officials that they expect to produce more than 30,000 cars this year, a figure that will easily outstrip any previous year's production of Essex cars. Essex output for 1922 exceeded that for the entire 1921 year before June 5.
It fell to the lot of the Hudson Automobile Co., of The Hague, export distributors for Holland, to be shipped the 175,000th Hudson. It was the seven-passenger phaeton, equipped with a kilometer speedometer instead of the usual mileage gauge. Several other features usually found on export cars were incorporated in this model. The 75,000th Essex, a coach, was sent to a domestic distributor.

Essex Cars' Demand Continues Excellent
J. H. Gilbert of 419 North Philadelphia has purchased his third Essex touring car. He compared performances again with other cars, he said, but saw no reason to change. The car was delivered by the Anaheim branch of Townsend & Medbury.
Other deliveries of the branch are: To C. F. Mitchell an Essex touring car; to Charles Scherer, Essex touring car; to Herbert Kruger of the California Confectionery, an Essex Cabriole; to Paul Blakemore, Essex touring car; to Charles A Osborne, Hudson touring limosine.
There is a marked shortage of cars says H. L. Grove, branch manager here. Several orders for new cars are booked, but can't be filled as yet. And future delivery is uncertain.

CAR MUST "GO," AND FORD DOES
"People are thinking of miles when they look at an automobile today," says George Dunton, Ford, Fordson and Lincoln distributor.
"Even the ladies who still admire beautiful lines and artistic appointments stick pretty close to the idea that the new car must cover some ground, and cue and all they want to make sure that they are going to go the mileage they are shopping for.
"It is generally conceded that under favorable conditions any car will do what its maker claims for it. But nobody but the local dealer can effectively assure the owner that it will do what he expects of it."
So the dealer who is selling satisfactory performances with his cars has to show a lot of things in addition to wheel-base automobile of tremendous weight, to the comparatively light, scientifically swung, high-powered car. This has been made possible by the vast road improvements that have been made in this country during the last few years.
"We are now building cars that will negotiate bad roads as well as good roads. But what will the development be when, in the course of another five or ten years, roads have become almost universally good?
"I feel sure that the tendency toward finer, more luxurious motor cars, as our roads get freer from dust and mud, will be very pronounced. With the advent of paved arteries all over the country, you will not only see the more luxurious closed equipment used for touring, but I believe that the open car will be more luxurious, comfortable—and finer."
Even the ladies who still admire beautiful lines and artistic appointments stick pretty close to the idea that the new car must cover some ground, and cue and all they want to make sure that they are going to get the mileage they are shopping for.
"It is generally conceded that under favorable conditions any car will do what its maker claims for it. But nobody but the local dealer can effectively assure the owner that it will do what he expects of it.
"So the dealer who is selling satisfactory performances with his cars has to show a lot of things in addition to an ice line of late models.
"Some car buyers have even gone through the salesroom and into other departments to see what the dealer is doing to keep car owners happy. We invite such an inspection."
BETTER ROADS MAKE FINER CARS POSSIBLE
Due to the fact that we are getting finer roads, the people are becoming more willing and can better afford to drive finer automobiles. Nothing has so great an influence on the construction of automobiles as good roads, in the opinion of J. J. Cole, president of the Cole Motor Car Company, who has been through many years of automobile development. "In the old days we made a great big engine and then manufactured heavy enough parts to take care of this engine.
"At the present time we have swung clear away from the big, long-"

The Hudson Coach
Has the New Motor
So it today. It combines the two biggest claims to interest in many years.
A beautiful closed car costing less than 6% above open models, is offered in the Coach.
And now it adds the wonderful new Hudson motor.
It fastens Hudson's long leadership to a higher standard of quality than ever.
Performance is wholly altered—a glorious sense of motion, free as flight. It eludes description. It brings afresh the zest to motor for its own sake. It is a revelation even to Hudson owners.
Be our guest on your first ride. Let the Coach and the new motor speak for themselves.
