CONCORDIA PLANS
MORE IMPROVEMENTS
The buildings and grounds of the Concordia Society are finished, but further improvements are planned within a year, says President Fritz Horbach. These will include an outdoor swimming pool and gym, outdoor stage in the rear of the building, where a large vacant space remains, outdoor contrivances for children's games, and the erection of fences corresponding with the one in front.
The club aims to make the house a rendezvous for German-Americans of the county.
A ladies' auxiliary now is being organized for the womenfolk of the society. A ladies' clubroom is included among the rooms of the new building, which, with the men's clubroom, main hall with stage and projection room for moving pictures, music and lodge room, etc., has been designed for the use of both sexes and young and old.
The club is trying to keep strictly within the laws in the operation of the house.
The site of the present clubhouse was selected largely because of a handsome grove of umbrella trees, which have been preserved in all their original beauty. The trees stand in front of the clubhouse, forming an aisle from the main entrance to the ornate gateway of stucco and magnesium with wrought iron on Broadway.
In the rear of the building the private outdoor eating booths have been re-stained in a handsome dark green, and the grounds have been improved.
Ground for the new building was first broken on March 2 of this year. The contractors were: General contractors, G. H. Tedford; electrical work, Selby & Moore; stucco and magnesium materials, Crain Bros., of Long Beach; plumbing, Frank Gairison; painters and decorators, Quarron & Baum. August Meinecke gave the color scheme for the interior decorations.
The building committee consisted of Fritz Horbach, chairman, president of the club; Dr. Theodore Roberts, Richard Krastel, secretary;

CONFUCIUS WAS BOLSHEVIST
TOKIO, July 5.—Poor old Confucius!
At this date, when he can't talk back, he is being branded as a bolshevist by orators in the Japanese diet.
Confucious was the first communist. He beat Lenin and Trotsky to it by a good many thousand years. At least, that's what Rep. Takio Izawi insisted in the Japanese house during the debate on the "dangerous thoughts" bill.
Izawa, opposing the bill proposing to punish persons who think dangerous thoughts asked the diet what it proposed to do about Confucius.
