Rev. and Mrs. L. L. Myers and family were heartily welcomed by the congregation. Rev. Myers succeeding Rev. Howe, resigning as pastor of the church. In the address which was given by H. S. Leavitt, he mentioned the delicacy of his position in saying the guests were "glad" because it might offend Rev. Howe, and in telling of their regret, on Rev. Myers' account, so he compromised by advising all to cry, as tears meant joy as well as sorrow, thus pleasing both pastors, each taking the emotion in his own way. Miss Lola McClelland read a number in her ever creditable way and the quartet, the Messrs. Wm. Morgan, McKinney, King and Virgo, sang two numbers, "Rock of Ages" and "Ashamed of Thee." Little Miss Floy Ballou played a piano selection, "Morning Prayer," and for an enchore played and sang, "The Chair Train." Rev Howe and Rev Myers both expressed their appreciation of the social courtesy to themselves and their families, and Dr Carlin also made a few remarks of appreciation of the two pastors. Many visiting Rebekahs were present, among them several notable State officers. Newspaper Woman Weds The marriage of Miss Pauline Payne, writer of the Los Angeles Herald, will interest local women who have enjoyed her column, particularly when it is learned that the wedding to Mr. Carl H. Thomson, of Omaha and New York, occurred in April and was to have been kept secret until the groom could arrange his business to locate in the west. After the marriage Miss Payne continued her work on the newspaper and Mr. Thomson returned east, but this arrangement was disrupted last week when the bride, with her brother, Dr. Joseph L. Choate, who is on his way to Paris, went to Omaha. Another of the very successful afternoons given by the Little Light Bearers of White Temple, under the leadership of Mrs. E. A. Collins, occurred yesterday. Mrs. George Tedrick first gave a talk to mothers, which was deeply appreciated. A playlet, "Going to See the Doctor in China," was an amusing one, represented by the father, mother, son, baby, nurse, doctor and the mayor. "A Little Child's Prayer," recited by Gladys Gill, was pretty rendered. Mrs. M. Eugene Durfee's solo, "I Think When I Read That Sweet Story of Old," was made more impressive by the story, told by Mrs. E. A. Collins, of when Jesus was here among men, and how He called all kinds of little children to Him. Mrs. J. Marvin Hitchcock then sang, "When Mothers of Salem Brought Their Children to Jesus." The mite-box opening resulted in a donation of almost $10.00, but the largest number of boxes remain yet to be received, as their owners are detained at home with the popular contagion, whooping cough. Refreshments were served later. B-A-LJuly Newport Bay--the follow Newport Bay--the and the follow 2:15 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4:00 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
