GIRL WHO SHOT "PERFECT LOVER" IN K. C. HOTEL SUMMER PALACE FOR FAMOUS SURGEONS ST. PAUL, June 27.—A floating summer home, designed to provide a retreat for Drs. Charles and William Mayo, world famous surgeons, is nearing completion at the Dingle boat works, St. Paur. Novel in design, the boat, which is something of a cross between a yacht and a houseboat, embodies its construction ideas which will make it an ideal retreat for two of the most indefatigable of the world's busy men. When completed it will be the largest motor-driven houseboat ever built on the Mississippi river. The design makes it practical for cruising inland waters and for short coastwise trips. Witman, Eyesight Specialist. Marie L. Beal, who shot and killed Frank Warren Anderson, war veteran and department store welfare worker, because he could not marry her, and then shot herself in Kansas City hotel room. According to the latest reports, Miss Beal was married in Dayton fourteen years ago and her husband, Steve Beal, and two sons are living in Terre Haute, Ind. AMAL WILL HAVE WELL AT SANTA FE With Oil Operators Amalgamated Fe Springs drilling conditions for the week show that the Amalgamated Oil Co. is next for production honors. Getty's Nordstrum well did not break into big production last week as expected. Drilled to 8587 and given a production try out the well produced nothing but gas. The casing head pressure at times rose to 900 pounds, and the tubing pressure went up to 500 pounds. Getty has his No. 2 ready to spud in and is starting a well on the Mitchell property north of the Santa Fe Springs Oil Syndicate. Getty has made a big success operating at Long Beach and his work at Santa Fe Springs is about to duplicate that success. The production of the General Petroleum's Springs 1 well has declined from 2000 barrels to less than 1000 barrels. The production is showing some emulsion and there is a suspicion that the water may be slowly breaking in on this well. The General Petroleum has the pride of the field in the way of producers. Two wells of the G. P.'s are producing an aggregate of 8000 barrels. Santa Fe No. 1 making 4120 barrels and Santa Fe No. 2 is holding steadily at 3725. The Globe Petroleum Co. holder of the Brunson property adjoining the General Petroleum's Springs 1 has started development work. The Brunson property is choice now and the Globe are to be congratulated on their foresight in getting this valuable tract. The Union Oil's outpost well Farwell No. 1 now drilling at 4355 is not showing any particular encouragement. The grey sand formation has been running for several hundred feet. Grey sand below the 4000 mark is not encouraging for any well. The Union's Alexander No. 2 has been showing a little emulsion lately and with a decrease in production there is a suspicion that this well may be developing water. The Nevada-Ventura is rigging up to drill the cement out at 3608. Prior to setting the pipe the Nevada-Ventura got an excellent showing of oil and the drilling out and drilling on will be watched with great interest. The Nevada-Ventura is perhaps one of the clearest and most ably managed stock company that has ever operated in the So.-Cal. field. The company has spent no money for advertising, the money taken in for the sale of the stock has gone into the drilling of the hole. Investors in the Nevada-Ventura are getting the best run for their money a stock company ever gave its stockholders. Investors in the Nevada-Ventura are getting the best run for their money a stock company ever gave its stockholders. For this reason the Nevada-Ventura is entitled to a big well and indications now warrant the prediction that they are going to get it. 29 NEW WELLS STARTED Oil field operations reported the week ending June 17 show 29 new wells started compared with 28 previous week. SUN YAT SEN CAPTIVE PEKING, China, June 26.—Sun Yat Sen, Canton southern leader of the Chinese, is reported to be a prisoner on one of his own gunboats. His forces in Klangsi province are said to be looting the countryside. President Li Yuan Hung is inclined to seek Sun's aid in the re-unification program. POWER FROM FALLS Power obtained from waterfalls will be used to electrify 6000 kilometers of Italian railways. RECOVERS OIL A Scotch process for recovering oil from shale is claimed to prevent the spent shale fluxing and clinkering in the bottom of retorts. IRVINE TEST HOLES GETTING FAR DOWN With Oil Operators The Wucherer-Gray interests drilling two test wells in the Irvine Hills south of Newport have reached a depth of 4200 feet on one well and 3600 on another. The deep well at 4200 is showing a brown shale and is looking about the same as it did at 4000 feet. The next 300 feet will determine the fate of the Wucherer-Gray test well. The Long Beach Consolidated Oil Co. has succeeded in getting its No.1 at Newport down to 3900 feet. At this depth the tubing will be put in and a production test made. Recent showings led to the stopping of drilling and making the production test now. Athens on the Hill is predicted now to be the next oil field for So. Calif. Three of the largest oil producing companies in the state are about to begin operations and it will not be long before the prediction made above will be qualified. The Union Oil Co. has made two locations and will start work soon on the Wagner property. The Shell Co. and the Standard Oil Co. have made two locations each. The Bardall Corp. will be the first concern to start actual work, the Bardall Corp. has a rig under construction. Seal Beach is all expectation and excitement now. The Henry R. Dabney Syndicate has set a string of 10-inch in its test well somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 feet. It is understood that the showings have been exceptionally good and warranted the setting of pipe. The Redondo field suffered a little setback when the Chansler-Can- MAY OUST DUTCH CONTROL WASHINGTON, June 25—The British have made an additional investment of $28,000,000 in the Royal Dutch-Shell combine, threatening to oust the Dutch from control. This company, the Standard and Anglo-American which the Standard owns, and Anglo-Persian Oil Company, owned by the British, control the world's oil supply. RANCHER'S TEST An Ontario rancher is experimenting with feeding a large flock of sheep with screenings from grain elevators. field Del Amo well fell off in production from 800 to 350 barrels. The sudden decline of the well is not believed to be the nature of the field, but that sand has come in and choked of the flow. CHANGE IN STYLES OF SUMMER GIRLS The summer girl whose idea of outdoor sport is a hammock is rapidly becoming extinct. The girl of 1922 is taking her summer leisure seriously. Along with her canoe, paddle and tennis racket, she is putting in books on serious educational subjects. Moreover she is planning to devote at least half-a-day daily to their perusal and study classes. Educational programs occupying half the day have no terrors for her. At Asilomar, one of the famous vacation spots in the New York conference, registrations are already heavy. Occupying a 50 acre tract overlooking the sea, and splendidly equipped with buildings, Asilomar is in constant demand for conferences and conversations by other organizations.
