EDISON CUTS ROAD
ON GRANITE CLIFFS
Completing the most daring piece of roadway construction ever accomplished among the pinnacles of the high Sierras, and which will open for travel a scenic strip through cloud-land where only trapper and hunter have set foot. Manager of Construction E. R. Davis, of the So. Calif. Edison Co., got into communication with Mr. G. C. Ward, vice president in charge of construction of the So. Calif. Edison Co., and phoned this message from Cascada: "We've finished the job ahead of time and have been over the road with a seventy-five ton caterpillar loaded with supplies for the men and materials for the work."
Cutting their way through the solid granite of the cliffs that stand 700 feet above the tumbling waters of the San Joaquin River, a force of 500 Edison men have just done another big thing in engineering and construction which is making the development work of the company on the Big Creeg-San Joaquin project historical. The message which Mr. Davis sent to Mr. Ward has great significance because it means that this strip of 6.7 moles of roadway, gouged out of the granite cliffs and now available for the monster trucks of transportation, makes possible the hauling of materials and supplies to Powerhouse No. 3 which is under construction in the San Joaquin River canyon, and assures its completion and the delivery of its electric product of 100,000 horsepower to the people of southern and central Calif., before the dry season of 1923.
With this powerhouse completed next summer, the road will be opened over to the county and will open up to automobilists a new wonderland and add another piece of magnificent highway to the miles of mountain road which the So. Car. Edison Co.'s construction work has given to the people.

Hello Folks—
Thomas Lee Woolwine is coming to the fore as a gubernatorial candidate on the Democratic ticket. A perfectly good Democrat claims that Thomas Lee never supported the party candidates at any time, therefore he is not deserving of the party's support at this time. So it would appear Thomas Lee is in for another fight.
Battle should have been Thomas' middle name for 'battle' is all that he knows. But every 'battler' finds his conquerer and some day Thomas Lee will find his. The powers that be in the city of the Angels have always 'got' the man they went after and they are after Thomas Lee. If he escapes the snare that are being spread for him, he will surely establish a new record.
If Thomas Lee wants to run for governor he will find more opposition in his home town than any where else. Maybe Battling Thomas is the man to conquer the 'powers of Angel city' but we are glad it's his fight and not ours.
The pathway of a public man is beset with thorns and pitfalls. We are glad that we are just plain Sargum Sprout.
The gossip mills of any community will turn out enough to keep one busy finding out about himself without being the center of gossip of a great city, state or nation.
I was thinking about running for governor myself, but I guess I will remain just plain SARGUM SPROUT.
REGISTERS AIR PRESSURE
A new gauge for registering the air pressure in automobile replaces the valve cap and does not have to be removed when a tire is filled.
