News of Fullerion STORM DRAINAGE DISTRICT PLANNED Fullerton city attorney was instructed to draw suitable plans for a storm drainage district in the Walnut-st tract, including an estimate of the cost, at the regular meeting of Fullerton trustees last night. These instructions were given following the rejection of plans for a new subdivision. H. D. Thurber of the Pinson-Thurber Realty Co. also presented a sketch of a proposed new subdivision, which was referred to the board as a whole. A request was made to have the walk on Fern Drive set 12 inches from the property line. This permission the board refused to grant. The water superintendent was instructed to extend the four inch pipe line to the McCulloch property on Cypress-st, and also south on Brookhurst to Valencia-ave; the two-inch pipe line 1700 feet west and 1200 feet east on Valencia-ave, and 1200 feet south of Valencia-ave. The two-inch pipe line is to be extended to the Ross property on Ross-ave. The water superintendent was also instructed to lay a three-fourths-inch pipe line to the south line of Santa Fe-ave, an extension of Chestnut-ave. A resolution was also introduced and passed for a new system of ornamental street lights, enlarging the present system. Plans and specifications were adopted, and bids will be advertised for. A resolution was passed granting the city employes a week's vacation each with full pay. The city engineer was instructed to see that a fence is put around the reservoir. The proposed sidewalk on the south side of Walnut-ave from Spadraard to Highland-ave was rescinded for the present. A resolution was also passed installation of a lighting system on Maple-ave and July 11 was set as the date for the hearing of protests. PROTESTS TESTING OUT OF RESERVOIR A communication was received last night by Fullerton trustees from C. L. Roberts as representative of Paul H. Ehlers protesting against the testing out of the city reservoir, and stating that any such action on the part of the city would be regarded as acceptance of the work. He stated that the city engineer of Fullerton had inspected the work as it was being done, and that this was sufficient. He stated also that other things besides inefficient work sometimes cause a reservoir to give way such as inadequate specifications, for which things the contractor is in no way responsible. The city attorney introduced an ordinance which passed the first reading for the collection of a license tax on business firms and apartment houses, the money to be used in keeping the town cleaned up. Merchants present said that there will be little objection to the ordinance from the business men. A resolution was passed abandoning an alley in the rear of the new hotel or No. Spadra-rd. The matter of a new subdivision in the new Walnut-st tract was discussed, and there was much debate pro and con on the necessity of the organization of a drainage district in that vicinity. EBELL LAWN FESTIVAL The Ebell bazaar festival given last evening was a grand success. The high school grounds were a blaze of light and galaxy from late afternoon until "late" night. Beautifully decorated booths sprung like magic about the grounds and were the favored places, as pretty sales girls made one so welcome, and incidentally exchanged their wares for the "root of all evil." The chop sucy dinner, served at the cafeteria was well partoned and the cabaret features much enjoyed by the diners. The proceeds will go into the club house fund, which the Ebell women BARON ROTHSCHOLT SEES 1ST REPORT The young scion of the richest family who is studying banking condition his first interview with paper reporter, while in He broke the rule that had Rothschild family immunity terviewers when a San Francisco newspaperman cornered baron's chief, interest in great automobile and steering here. Noll yesterday. This is one of the largest consolidations that has happened on the coast for some time, merging into one large company all of the Bake-Rite holdings on the Pacific Coast. The new company will be known as the Bake-Rite Consolidated, and is capitalized at ten million. This capitalization makes it the largest in its line in the world. In the last four years the Bake-Rite Oven Manufacturing Co. has made Bake-Rite bakeries famous in three continents. In the last year the phenomenal success of the Bake-Rite bakers a southern California company, brought it into the lime light as one of the most progressive baking institutions in the West. This consolidation will reduce the expense of operation to a minimum by eliminating duplication of effort, will greatly increase the purchasing power of the company, resulting in greater profits to the company, and more frequent and generous dividends to the stock holders. It will abolish all territorial limits and shall be extended over the United States and whatever foreign countries it is deemed profitable to operate in. They shall not be confined solely to the manufacture and sale of bakery products, but shall include the manufacture and distribution of semi-prepared products to be handled through whatever channels are adopted by the company, as well as the manufacturing and marketing of bakery machinery, both of which lines are even more profitable than the business they are now engaged in. In the progressive movement toward a blending plant will be built in Los Angeles to supply the stores in So. Calif., in bulk and package form, the products of the plant. Mr. Noll recently returned from a trip to San Francisco and visited numerous Bake-Rite bakeries, also the Bake-Rite Pure Food Products Co., which was taken in on the consolidation. This company manufactures blended flours, put up in package form prepared of the highest quality. No change in raisin prices will be made until after Aug. 1, when the price on the new crop is fixed, according to President Wylie M. Giffin of the Associated Raisin Growers. Hearst Hall and several small buildings in its rear on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley were destroyed by fire. Many valuable trophies were burned. Retention of the Central Pacific by the Southern Pacific was urged upon the Interstate Commerce Commission by the public utility commissioners of California, Arizona and New Mexico. New Mexico was not represented, but gave California its proxy. A. R. Heywood of Utah and W. H. Simmons of Nevada refused to join in the appeal. Because of his ill health and following the furnishing of a bond of $5,000 by King Kleagle G. W. Price of the Pacific domain, Nathan A. Baker, confessed leader of the Inglewood units in every town that will justify the sale of its products in the county, and in addition to this will use his efforts to have a central distributing plant established in Anaheim. Mr. Noll devote his time in the extension department of Orange and San Diego counties in the future. For instance, it will be so convenient now to bake a good pie crust, "Just add water to the Bake-Rite Pie Blend, that's all," just at the time when every moment counts. It's so satisfying to know, that all that is necessary is to add a little water, mix, roll, and your pie crust is ready to bake, and knowing then that every pie will have a crisp, flaky crust. Then, too, every kind of cake, the famous Bake-Rite doughnut blend, icings, all kinds of cookies, cie., will all be prepared in the same way. This company started less than a year ago using ten barrels of flour a day, and are now using 1000 barrels of flour a day.
