FLAG DAY MARKED WITH FITTING AND PRETTY NUMBERS
THE warm weather of Friday afternoon did not deter a large number of ladies from attending the Missionary meeting at the Presbyterian church, which was held at the manse. This was Missionary Flag day and the following program, with Mrs. T. H. Walker in charge, was rendered:
"Our Marching Orders," "Onward Christian Soldiers," Business; Porto Rico's Challenge to the Colors; The Color Bearer's Message; With the Army of the Lord in the Philippines; A Bugle Call; "Fling Out the Banner."
The house was beautifully decorated with American flags, the Christian flag and a number of others. "Our Marching Orders" was the devotional topic and was led by Mrs. Charles Fay, who gave a very helpful talk. At the close of the business members all having had birthdays were called forward, and nine responded, then stood together white the society sang that beautiful hymn, "The Lord Love Thye and Keep Thee." The topic, "Porto Rica's Challenge to the Colors," was divided into subjects in such a way that they formed an acrostic—p, poverty; o-obligation; r-religion; t-training; organization; x-roads; I-liness; C-childen; O-opportunity. All of these subjects were ably discussed by different members. The foreign topic, "The Philippines," were also presented by different members and the program closed with "The Bugle Call," a beautiful poem.
