CASEY, THE COP
SIGNAL HILL GETS BACK 5000 BBLS.
With Oil Operators
Signal Hill has recovered the 5000 barrels lost last week by the bringing in of two wells. The Getty Oil Co., has a 2500 barrel well on the Nugent property and the Holmes Oil Co. No. 1 looks like it will make duplicate to the Getty. Getty's second producer drilled by the Rodgers-Edwards Drilling Co.was completed, at 3256 and is flowing from 2250 to 2500 barrels. The Holmes Oil Co.'s No. 1 was completed at 3185 and started flowing under high pressure.
The Fischer Oil Co.'s No. 1 at 4325 is showing a little encouragement. Gas sand at 4300 makes it appear that oil in quantity must be near and it is believed something good will be struck within the next 100 feet. On the success or failure of the Fischer deep well much depends for the future development of the south and southwest side of Signal Hill.
The Henderson Petroleum Syndicate and the Shell Co.tied for first honors this week starting new wells. The Henderson Petroleum started Irene 1, Dodge 1, Mills 1, and Nan 1.

BUENA PARK
BUENA PARK, June 17.—(Spl.) The Congregational Sunday School held their regular business meeting on Thursday evening. At the close of the meeting about fifty members of the church and a number of friends of Miss Florence Robison entered the back door and marched into the Sunday School room. As they walked past the desk where Miss Robison was engaged in her duties as secretary, each laid a package before her. After recovering from her surprise Miss Robison responded in her usuar sweet manner. The packages were opened and inspected by all. Many beautiful and useful gifts of linen, pyrex, aluminum and cut glass were received. The ladies served delicious refreshments of cake, ice cream and punch. During the social hour that followed the guests were favored with several piano selections by Miss Leona Hilgenfeld; Miss Mildred Johnson sang "O Promise Me" very sweetly and Miss Florence Schofield also gave a vocal selection. Mrs. George Cole gave several readings which were fine. The girls of the Golden Rule class entertained with their jazz orchestra which was to advertise-the sock social on Tuesday evening at the Community Hall. Mr. and Mrs. W.E.Tice and son Junior motored to Los Angeles on Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Golden were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Will Dunlap at Artesia on Wednesday evening.
Mr. Sabe Robison who has been connected with the Nelson Hardware Store for some months past left on Friday for a two weeks' vacation. Upon his return he will be manager of the Scott & Frampton Store here.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Warren and family and their guest, Mrs. Dewey, of Michigan, and Miss Dorothy Wents of Fullerton motored to Los sons and we do not believe there is a better investment than a good Valencia grove in Orange County.

The Woman's Club met at the club rooms on Thursday afternoon for the last meeting of the season. A vacation of three months will be enjoyed before resuming work in October. The club room was very prettily decorated in pink sweet peas and carnations. Mrs. C. S. Cox read a very interesting article on our State Penitentiary written by the Warden of San Quentin. The article stated that the ages of the prisoners ranged from 17 to 79 years and the largest group was between the ages of 20 and 30 years.
After the business was dispensed with the new officers were installed as follows: Mrs. N. D. McDowell, Pres.; Mrs. J. F. Simpson, 1st Vice Pres.; Mrs. C. S. Cox, 2nd Vice Pres.; Mrs. L. J. Robeson, Secretary; Mrs. W. B. Shaw, Treasurer; Mrs. E. P. Mann, Fed. Sec.
Mrs. Herbert Bixby and Mrs. A. E. Smothers were hostesses for the afternoon and served delicious refreshments of ice cream, homemade cakes and punch.
Miss Ethel McNell returned on Wednesday from Claremont where she has been a student at Pomona College. On Saturday, Miss McNell accompanied by Mrs. B. D. Martin of Los Angeles will leave for Yellowstone Park. They will travel via Santa Fe Railway and will stop at Salt Lake City to see the places of interest. They expect to reach home about July 9rd.

DEEP DRILLING IS WITHOUT RESULTS With Oil Operators
Deep drilling at Richfield by the Standard and Union has not resulted in anything promising on the Kelogg and Dickson properties. The Standard Oil Ca.'s Kellogg No. 1, making hole at 5435, is drilling in a grey sand and not showing any indications of oil. The Union Oil Company is trying to find production on the Dickson lease and has a test well drilling at 4855 and as yet has found nothing encouraging aside from a few traces of oil sand.
The old Rideouts Heights field west of Whittier is to be extended by the Comanche Oil Company. A leaage has been taken by the Comanche on the property adjoining the Whitley Oil Company's No. 5, now the best producer in the field.
The La Habra Midway's No. 1 is now at 3500, drilling in brown shale. The formation has run unchanged for 800 feet and there is little uneaseiness about a change in the formation and a turn for the better.
At close to 4000 feet the Southern California Oil Company's Sanderson No. 1 continues drilling, the showings not being either particularly encouraging or discouraging. However the well is getting to a point where a showing of oil sand would be welcomed.
The Standard Oil Company's old Murphy-Coyote field gave the South a couple of new producers. Murphy-Coyote 38 at 3950 came in a 200-barrel well, and 90 at 3832 came in with an equal capacity.
