News of Fullerton DR. WALT THORNTON WILL TEACH CLASS The resignation of Rev. John T. Houser pastor of the First Christian church of Fullerton, and teacher and founder of the Houser Bible class, the second of its kind west of the Mississippi, was finally accepted by the church board last night. Efforts had been made to retain Rev. Houser, but he could not remain because of the ill health of his wife. His resignation is to go into effect July 1. The board presented him with $5000 in lieu of a vacation. Dr. Walt Thornton, who has supplied the place of Rev. George Taubman in the First Christian church at Long Beach, and also as teacher of the Taubman Bible class, said to be the largest in the world, during the illness of the latter, is to take the place of Rev. Houser temporarily. He is to be in Fullerton at least 60 days, it is stated. Rev. Houser has only two more Sundays, and the Bible class is planning rousing programs on those days. WIDEN WEST WILSHIRE The B. of T. committee which is assisting in arranging details for the widening of West Wilshire-ave is sure og 100 per cent consent of the property owners, it was stated today by W. N. Irwin, secretary of the B. of T. Plain Dealer for Good Job Printing. BIG TIME AT LEGION PICNIC The picnic given last night at Orange-co park by the Fullerton post, American Legion, in honor of the Fullerton Woman's Auxiliary to the post was a big success. There were 82 at the picnic and barbecue, the steaks being enough to make one's mouth water. Ice cream and other dainties were also served, and the pienickers gathered around family style. An appeal was made by both the legion and the auxiliary for more members. An address of welcome to the ladies was given by E. J. Marks, president of the Fullerton post. A reply was given by Mrs. Robertson of the Woman's Auxiliary. There was singing, games and dancing. BEGIN BANK EXTENSION Preliminary work has been begun on the westward extension of the First National Bank building of Fullerton where it is planned to have a second story similar to the one now over the present bank building, the new addition to run westward thru the buildings now occupied by the Fullerton News, The No. Orange-co Exchange, and the Star Grocery. The No. Orange-co Exchange plans to move upstairs into more commodious apartments when the work is finished, and the remainder of the second story is to be given to offices. Mrs. Clem of Bakersfield underwent an operation today at the Fullerton hospital. Mrs. Haber of Santa Ana underwent an operation at the Fullerton hospital yesterday. TOMORROW AND SUNDAY MATINEES ONLY NEW FULLERTON CITY RESERVOIR FINISHED The new city reservoir has been completed, and two feet of water was turned into it today. It was announced this afternoon by Ben Dupuy, city engineer of Fullerton. Mr. Dupuy stated that no trouble is anticipated, but that it is not a good idea to load up the reservoir all at once. About two feet each day will be poured into it until it is filled, he said. As yet there is no evidence of leaks, it is stated. The reservoir will hold 4,500,000 gallons of water. NON-SUPPORT CHARGE AGAINST PLACENTIAN Albert Lee Davis of Placentia was given a hearing this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock on the charge of non-support of a minor child. The court ordered him to pay $30 a month. FULLERTON BRIEFSE Denton Clark, Mrs. M. L. Hankins, B. F. Logue, Douglas Hankins, and Pauline Logue have left over the Santa Fe for Dallas, Texas. Fullerton K. of A's meet tonight. An open meeting is to be held one week from tonight with dancing cards and music. Otto Miller left yesterday over the Santa for Ripon, Wos. Seth Warren left yesterday over the Santa Fe for Pueblo, Colo. J. W. Bess left yesterday over the Santa Fe for St. Louis. Fullerton I. O. O. F. are planning a big meeting tomorrow night at their hall over the First National Bank. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Stone are entertaining today Mr. Stone's brother, Billie Stone and wife, of San Diego, and Mrs. Knox of Los Angeles. Miss Minnie Maxwell of the Fullerton Library is expected to return to Fullerton today from the convention at San Diego. NEW BUSINESS OPENINGS The Star Grocery has just opened City Briefs The friends of Mrs. D. Degryse will be glad to hear that she is improving from a severe sprain to her knee which resulted from a recent fall. Mrs. Burr Willard, of Bakersfield, formerly Anaheim and Mrs. Daniels, her mother, passed yesterday and today in Anaheim. Mrs. Willard, as Mrs. Sims, was a guest of the Chat 'En Seau club which met with Miss Viola Elliott, she being a member of the club before here departure north. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur A. Cohen and son are moving today from N. Emily to 730 N. Zeyn-st. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Morris of San Diego, were dinner guests today of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Elliott. From here they go to Los Angeles to pass the remainder of the time until Monday. Word from Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Adams, and son Alva, and Mrs. Anna Adams who are enjoying a motor trip along the coast north of Los Angeles, states that they are having a most enjoyable time. They will be gone about ten days. Virginia and Dorothy Livingston of El Centro are the guests of their aunt, Mrs. R. L. Bowen. Mrs. R. L. Bowen, Mrs. W. J. Waller, Mrs. H. Bowen, the Misses Lucille Bowen and Dorothy and Virginia Livingston passed the day in Los Angeles. Mr. W. O. Lusk of West Center-st, is again able to be about after an illness of a week. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Dozler will leave Sunday for their home in Colorado after an extended visit here with their daughter, Mrs. B. H. Sidnam. Mrs. H. R. Hathaway the meeting of the Penochie club scheduled for last night, has been postponed a week. Misses Edytha Hayward and Clara Heinze will spend the evening at Long Beach. Lloyd Ross underwent an operation yesterday for appendicitis. Mr. and Mrs. Simon E. Tousson and children have returned from a fishing trip to Big Bear. American Dye Works Reopens Offices Here The American Dye Works, which has re-opened its office at 120 North Los Angeles-st, with E. R. Christopher, formerly of Fullerton as manager, has no connection with the American Dry Cleaners, of which F. H.-Bley, former representative of the Los Angeles concern when its offices were on West Center-st, is manager.The local office of the American Dye Works was closed for a few weeks, pending arrangements to continue the business.The same fine work, covering every garment, from the cheapest and coarsest to the finest most expensive, is being done as in the past. Cal. cities to get pointers for the new city hall. The cities visited yesterday included: Glendora, Ontario, Corona and Orange. SCHLEUTER PROMOTED The many friends of Edwin Schleuter will be glad to hear of his promotion with Standard Oil Co. For three years, since graduation from local high school in '19, he has been working for this company at Perris on the fringe of the desert, and as a reward for his faithful service he has been transferred to the Fullerton office, taking the position of senior clerk. This job is much superior to that of his previous position. Mrs. H. R. Boyd and her mother, Mrs. Smith, both of Santa Ana, were dinner guests yesterday of Mrs. J. D. Guy, of East Center-st.
