News of Fullerton COUNCIL EXTENDS OUTSIDERS WATER The regular weekly meeting of Fullerton trustees was held last night at the city hall, having been postponed from Tuesday night. A petition was brot before the board by George Key and Sidney Ross who reside near the corner of Ross and Acacia-aves east of Fullerton asking city water for private consumption. The matter was discussed, and it was agreed that the city would furnish the water if the property owners would furnish the pipes. This the property owners agreed to do. A communication was received from the Bastanchury Ranch Co. asking that the city place lights on No. Spadra-rd to the city limits. The matter was referred to the lighting committee. A report was filed by Claude Fisher, representative of the M. and F. Pipe Line Construction Co., stating that the job of installing the new city water system had been finished. The job took about four months. The report was received. The contract for the new ornamental lighting district, bids on which were received last week, was let last night to the C. W. Sparks Co. for a little more than $26,000. This district is larger than the former one. A resolution of condemnation for portions of land along the Starbuckrd route received an even number of votes on each side, which tabled it. The mayor refused to permit it to pass until there is a full board. He does not think that it is feasible at this time because of the city's finances. Harry Gantz came before the board and proposed a new subdivision on No. Spadra-rd. He was assured that the board would favorably consider it, when he brot up the plans. Joe Falver was appointed successor of John Critter as city electrician. DISMISS CHARGES AGAINST DEPUTIES George Smith and L. M. Clary, deputy sheriffs, charged with selling intoxicating liquors, were arraigned this morning before Judge French in the Fullerton police court and dismissed because of insufficient evidence. The district attorney did not appear to prosecute the case. The state's witness was Walter Van Deest of Los Alamitos over whose head a similar charge is now hanging. He was given a hearing before Judge French May 22. The jury disagreed, 10 for conviction, and two for acquittal. He testified this morning that he gave Smith $1 for a quart of wine. He stated that Clary wanted him to give $1.50 for the wine, but that Smith agreed to take a dollar for it. He said that Clary admitted as much at the recent trial. Of this the court did not take cognizance, stating that the statement of Clary was not to this effect. Van Deest is to be given another hearing June 22 on the charge of selling liquor, and on June 29 on the charge of having liquor in his possession. John Curwood was arraigned this morning on the charge of transporting booze. His case was held up until instructions could be received from the district attorney's office. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. The Woman's Civic club will soon commence initial steps preparatory to the erection of a fine club house in Garden Grove. There is a positive need for a building of this character here, and with the civic club backing the argument there is no doubt but all daddies look alike to This Kiddie Thomas Meighan, Leatrice Joy and one of the five Kiddies in the Paramount Picture 'The Bachelor Daddy' Bright Youngster Causes Trouble During Filming of "The Bachelor Daddy" Alfred Green, who directed Thomas Meighan in the Paramount picture, "The Bachelor Daddy," had his troubles, due to the presence of five children in the cast, Mr. Meighan being supposedly the proxy daddy of five children in this new story, which will be screened at the California theatre starting tomorrow. One of the children had to be a mere baby and for the scenes it was necessary for the child to recognize Mr. Meighan as his daddy. Mr. Green tried little Bobby Jackson, brother of Charlotte Jackson, the principal child actress in the cast, but Bobby was feebing and wouldn't recognize anybody but his mother. So Bruce Guerin, a bright youngster, was found and told that Mr. Meighan was his daddy. This suited him fine, but Bruce was no reggie of persons. No sooner had he left the scene than he began to pick up dad-dies all over the studio. He met Waldenmar Young, scenarist and shouted: "There's my daddy." Next he chose Walter Hiers, the heavyweight comedian. Roy Barnes was then picked out by the youngster. After looking over several others, he pointed to Oscar, the colored bootblack at the studio and in all seriousness said: "No, that's my daddy." "We'd better get the boy back near Meighan before he gets too many daddies around here," said Green, and forthwith an order was issued for little Bruce to be kept near the star.
