MOTOR CAR NOW NEARLY PERFECT
"Automobile owners and the public generally do not fully appreciate the ever-increasing utility of the automobile," says George Dunton, Ford, Fordson and Lincoln distributor.
"Practically all inconvenience and trouble has been removed from the well night miraculous operation of the motor car. The machine that a few years ago was a highly speculative and quite often impractical proposition has been perfected now to the point where it functions every day smoothly and powerfully. The car buyer today expects no less of any automobile."
"This certainty of performance has been given to the automobile by the exercise of a sincere interest by the dealer in the owner's requirements. The manufacturer makes a thousand cars, all identical." They go into possession of a thousand owners, all different. It's the dealers' business to see that they all give complete satisfaction, and the fact that they are doing so vividly shows how much more than merely a sales organization the modern dealer must be."

Chevrolet Is Ideal Family Car; Hauser
That the Chevrolet touring car, roadster and light delivery car are considering equipment, the cheapest cars on the market is the claim made by Bill Hauser, of the noted branch of the Frank P. Taggart Company. Every part or accessory which has become standard equipment on motor cars, even of the expensive class, is included on these cars, which sell at $525 f. o. b. factory in Flint, Mich., or at about $100 more here.
Sales continue to mount, Hauser said, and are better than in several weeks past.
Hauser also called attention to the Chevrolet sedan.
Why envy the rich when the luxurious, commodious four-door Chevrolet Sedan can be yours for $875.00 f. o. b. Flint?
This car, with high grade Fisher body on the celebrated new superior Chassis, is the most sensational value ever offered in motoring.
It offers the privacy and luxury of a limousine at less than the cost of most open cars. Its artistic lines, harmonious color, finish, refined appointments, and mechanical efficiency make it the most desirable car for all who seek year-round service combined with small investment and economical operation. It defies snow, rain and cold, yet is cool and clear in summer. It is the ideal family car.

DON'T EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR NASH
Motor car dealers will all tell you that they have more trouble with new owners who imagine there is something wrong with their car than with those who actually have had trouble. Sometimes the trouble proves to have been real, but its cause can be traced back directly to a desire of the new owner to "fuss" with the carburetor, or otherwise change adjustments made before the car left the sales plant, or factory.
"I had the latter type of trouble brought to my attention on Monday of this week by an owner who had only recently purchased a Nash four," said John J. Troy, head of the firm which bears his name and distributor for the Nash and LaFayette cars in Southern California and Arizona. "This owner was taking his family out through Hollywood and via the Ventura-bldd to the summit of the Topango Canyon to see where the big earth slide had occurred a few days previously.
"His car had been running perfectly and he had been getting excellent gasoline economy, but he was not satisfied and decided to experiment for himself. Going over Cahuenga Pass heavy traffic was encountered and it was necessary to almost come to a dead stop on the steepest portion of the grade, right near the summit. In telling me of his experience he declared he was much put out because the car wouldn't pull as hard as it had on previous occasions on the same grade. He said he had never before had the slightest difficulty in topping Cahuenga in high at good speed, even when he had run into similar traffic conditions."
"Farther out he decided he would see if he could get a little more power by opening up the carburetor a little, and gave the knurled nut on the top three "clicks." The short turns and steep grades of the north side of Cahuenga were taken easily, and he even found it possible to pickup speed when necessary to pass a car ahead. He told me rather sheepishly that he had intended to "kick" about his earlier experience on Cahuenga, but that he knew now that it was his own
Demand For Durants Greater Than Ever
Never since James E. Appleby opened a branch agency for the Durant here has the demand for the cars been more pressing. The distributors have found it difficult in fact to keep a car on hand for demonstration purposes, while possession of one of each of the models has been out of the question.
The new six is proving as popular as the four. As already pointed out, the six has the same general design and construction features as the four. The tubular backbone, for instance, enables the independent mounting of every mechanical unit.
But the motor and body types are a matter of equal pride to the builders. In selecting the power plant for the six, the Durant engineers found in the Ansted engineers found in the Ansted engine an existing motor so efficient in operation, and so satisfying in performance, that they were able to incorporate it in the Durant six chassis, and produce a car which has proved, highly satisfactory in exhaustive engineering and road tests.
The four types are equally attractive in their respective fields. Coachwork, mounting, and finish are of exceptional quality. The swing of the low-hung body, the instant response of the powerful motor to the throttle, the comforts, the refined, finished appearance of the body, make the Durant six a satisfying car to drive and to own.

What will be the most important development in the automobile industry in the future?
This question was answered by Edward S. Jordan, president of the Jordan Motor Car Company, in talk to all the service managers on the industry in Detroit.
He says that automobiles will be sold in the future upon service all most entirely.
Owners are learning that the price of an automobile is not the first price at all, but the last cost.
This service must be based upon fair parts prices established by the manufacturer; fair and uniform service charges established by the dealer and honest service rendered by every man who is allowed to put up a sign over a garage door.
To accomplish this is the most important task before the automobile industry today.
All trade associations now working toward the exposition of desirable methods which help to break down the confidence of the public are doing more to help the automobile industry in the future than any other group.
In the rapid development of this industry certain practices have grown up which have tended to destroy the confidence of the public in repair service stations. This must be corrected through cooperative action of manufacturers, dealers and repair men.
Every manufacturer is thinking about it.
Every dealer knows the necessity for this action.
The owners are demanding it.
Something must be done and will be done to command the complete confidence of the public in reputable dealer service stations.

The short turns and steep grades of the north side of Cahuenga were taken easily, and he even found it possible to pickup speed when necessary to pass a car ahead. He told me rather sheepishly that he had intended to "kick" about his earlier experience on Cahuenga, but that he knew now that it was his own fault and that hereafter he would not choke off all the "gas," and then expect to get full power out of his Nash.
"A certain make of car he had owned previously, he told me, was a wonder on the hills, but he said both he and his wife were perfectly satisfied that their Nash four would out-pull and out-climb the other car in spite of the fact that the Nash has a motor almost 20 per cent smaller and consequently gave more than 25 per cent greater gasoline mileage."
NINE CARS IN WEEK
SOLD BY FIRM HERE
The local Maxwell and Chalmers distributors, Turton & Lumsdun, report a remarkable improvement in sales the past week. J. J. Greenberg of Anaheim, J. DeMaris of Olinda and C. Andresen of Yorba Linda have each purchased a new Maxwell touring car, and the firm also has sold six used cars.
The demand, in fact, is running ahead of the supply as usual, the company finding it difficult to keep a demonstration car on hand.
