SPORT YOUNG SANDOW IS ANXIOUS FOR MATCH Young Sandow and Hackenschmidt, a couple of classy mat artists hailing from the eastern states, are hot on Mabee's trail. Both have been after the winner of the Sparkes-Mabee fracas and were promised a chance at the first opportunity. However, Young Baden was also promised a chance if he got by Bernhardt which he did in clean cut fashion recently and thereby earned the right to a meeting with the conqueror of Al Sparkes. The tail boy, if he gets by Mabee in good style says he will oblige either Sandow or Hack or both at the same time if it will give them any satisfaction. Vic says, he'd just as leave handle two as one—the more the merrier. He is confidence personified if that counts for anything and there will be nothing to it when he and Mabee clash next Friday night at the Grahd Theatre. The match looks like a sure fire proposition and the fans should get a big run for their money. Mabee, too, is still the same confident old boy as he was in his recent set-to with Sparkes and is going out to win in just as quick-time if not more so than when he wrestled Sparkes. The advance ticket sale will start tomorrow a.m. at Dugas-Myre and United Cigar Store. ELK BOWLERS IN BIG OPENING NIGHT A big time was had by all present last night in Los Angeles at the opening exhibition shoot of the So. Cal. Elks bowling league. Preceded by the 60-piece band and 75-man degree team of the Angel Elks, the bowlers joined in an auto parade from the L., A. Elks No. 99 club house to the Angelus alleys where Mayor Cryer wobbled the first ball down the alleys and then made a speech. SOPHOMORE TRACK MEET NEXT FRIDAY High School Notes The Orange-co Sophomore track and field meet which was to have been staged last Friday in Santa Ana has been set for 2 p.m. this Friday in Huntington Beach. Mulvey will run in the 100 yard dash, Harris will heave the shot and Grauer in the 220 low hurdles. The relay team is composed of Crist, Grauer, Rees Mulvey and Harris. These track men are all stars in their line and they are expected to bring home a number of points. Mother to me means more than to most people, for back in the days of my childhood she was not only mother, but pal and playmate. We lived way back in the mountains on a cattle ranch. Our two neighbors were old bachelors and there were no children in less than ten miles. Dad was away most every day so you can see how Ma was everything to me. I know that there are a very few that appreciate their mothers rightly. A mother spends the greater part of her life doing little things to make their children happy; surely it’s a great thing if we can give them one day each year as token of our appreciation. Mothers as a rule are very easily pleased. A flower a kind word from their children is often the means of much pleasure. To my mother I am indebted for the beautiful pleasures of childhood. She was pal, counsellor, playmate and mother all in one. When manhood came and with it great trials and grief, somehow I knew that Ma understood and the tide grew stronger. Today I know that I might call on her for any aid in the range of human endurance and she would not fail me. Gee, I am glad that I could be with her yesterday and I am very sorry for those denied that privilege. A real mother is a priceless jewel. You are never down and out, you are never through as long as you have a mother to back you up. —SARGUM/SPROUT. Witman, Eyesight specialist. FOR SALE—Cheap, Jersey cow giving 4½ gallons milk a day.
