NEWBERT DISTRICT PLAN IMPOSSIBLE
The participation of the Newbert protection district in a county-wide conservation district, as the directors of the former proposed, is utterly out of the question, said a very prominent local water conservationist today. Much more is the leadership of the Newbert district in such a movement impossible, the Anaheimer said.
The Newbert district has unlimited water, and is organized for drainage purposes, not conservation, the local man declared. The Anaheimmer intimated further that a mixture of financing plans of the county as a whole with those of the Newbert district would be unwise.
Sam Talbert, chairman of the board of directors of the Newbert district was responsible for the statement regarding the district's intents and ambitions. Talbert's statement, when first issued, caused some surprise here in view of the initiative taken by the Ahlborn committee, whose work has been taken over by the Associated Chambers of Commerce. A sub-committee of the Ahlborn committee will interview the Board of Supervisors regarding support to the extent of $25,000 or as much as the board feels it can give, to defray the cost of a survey of the county's water resources and needs.
The Newbert district issued bonds to the amount of $300,000 to $400,000, and it is declared in some quarters here that the district is seeking to have the proposed county-wide district assume the responsibility for most of these bonds. The Newbert district itself is hardly able to look after the bonds by itself.
Anaheimmers want harmony and a united front in the county-wide district project, but see no hope of a sensible analgamation of the plans of the conservationists and drainage district.

ESPECIALLY SAD IS MOTHER'S DEATH
Mrs. Ida May Travis, aged 43, of Hansen Road, died Sunday, following childbirth, leaving her husband and six children, whose ages range from 2 to 16 years. Funeral services will be held from the Backs & Terry Co. Chapel the latter part of the week, as the mother and sister are on their way here from Georgia. The date will be announced later.
Mr. Travis, who is employed at the pumping station of the Standard Oil Co. at Northam, has the sympathy of his friends and coworkers.
Sisters Opens Today; Shows Wife's Courage
What would you do if you saw, in your own home, your young married sister in the arms of your husband, and the two planning to elope?
No doubt you would feel a thrill. Anger would overcome you and then sober, quiet thought would prevail. If you loved your husband you would fight for his love. Some women would let matters take their course, but any true-blooded woman would get up her courage and set out to win.
How one courageous girl who fought to hold her husband from her own selfish sister and won the fight is told most vividly in "Sisters," a powerful motion picture production from the novel of Kathleen Norris, which opens a two days engagement at the California Theatre, starting today.
Seena Owen plays the leading feminine role, that of the wife whose sister attempts to take her husband, and the other featured members of the cast are Matt Moore and Gladys Leslie.
Alix and Cherry Strickland are sisters, Alix being the elder. Cherry marries the man of her choice and Alix is happy. Peter, a friend of the family, who has appeared to be friendly to Cherry, leaves for a world tour, to forget a woman, none knowing, however, that Cherry is the woman. In the meantime the father of the girls dies. Cherry is unhappy with her husband, and Peter returns. He finds Alix lonely and the couple finally.

Charles Edwin Arbuthnot, 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Arbuthnot, of 537 West Broadway, died Saturday night at 11:30, from a sudden illness of the throat. He was employed by the Young Sash and Door Co. for the last year, and worked to Wednesday night. The following day he was forced to remain at home, and grew worse until death came.
With his parents he came to Anaheim about one year ago from Glendale, where he had completed his high school course. His parents and a small brother survive him.
