NEWS OF FULLERTON FULLERTON YOUTH FORENSIC WINNER James Gardiner of the Fullerton high school won the first place in the best essay of the forensic contest of northern Orange-co., it was announced today. Other schools in this district include Anaheim and Huntington Beach, and Garden Grove. He won eight out of nine counts for the decision, and is therefore to represent the section as champion against the other section of Orange-co. The senior contest in oration is to be held next week. SCHOOL EXHIBIT FRIDAY A school exhibit is to be put on Friday afternoon at the Fullerton new grammar school building at the corner of Harvard and Chapman-aves, the various classes and grades to be represented. A special exhibition is to be put on in penmanship. The exhibit is to be staged during the afternoon, and in the evening an operetta is scheduled, "Jack and the Bean-stock." BIBLE CLASS WILL PICNIC The H. B. C. of the First Christian church of Fullerton is planning a big picnic this evening at reservoir hill at Fullerton. The picnics are to listen to a concert from Los Angeles which is to be brot to them by means of wireless. There are to be amplifiers in order that everyone may hear. The wireless is to be in charge of Prof. Ames of the Fullerton high school. MOORE INFANT DIES The six-months-old baby of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moore of Yorba Linda died last evening of pneumonia. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Seale funeral parlors, Rev. William Perry of the Baptist church officiating. Interment was in Loma Vista! Mr. Moore is connected with the Petroleum Midway Oil Co. at Placentia. FULLERTON JUDGE FIXES $708 FINES Fullerton trustees met last night. The matter of signal vires from the pumping plan to the city reservoir was submitted by Ben Dupuy city engineer, and estimates obtained from the So. Cal. Edison Co. The matter was held over. An amendment to the fire ordinance to prevent fire hazards was passed. An ordinance permitting the P. E. to build a spur across an alley in the city was given the first reading. The health board was re-appointed to serve the coming year. The board is composed of Dr. J. H. Lang, Mrs. Carrie Ford, Mrs. Rothaermel, Dr. E. T. Hall and Dr. George C. Clark. The April reports of the city recorder and the city building inspector were received and filed. William French, city recorded, reported that during the month of April he collected in fines $708. E. S. Richman, building inspector, reported that he had issued 46 building permits during the month, covering buildings to the value of $90,312. He also issued 37 plumbing permits. The total fees collected during the month by the building inspector amounted to $242.40. The matter of a monument to be erected in honor of the heroes of the world war was taken up and referred to L. This is May fete week and there was quite an attendance at the program rendered yesterday afternoon and last evening at the crowning of the May Queen. R. M. Price left last night over the Santa Fe for Herman, Mo., because of the illness of relatives. Mrs. Clara Campbell left yesterday over the Santa Fe for Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Sam L. Collins are the proud parents of a new baby boy who made his arrival at the Fullerton hospital this morning. Mrs. Charles Chase of Anaheim was taken home today from the Fullerton hospital where she has been a patient. GERMANY TO GET LOAN OF ONE BILLION TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS Official reports of the day are to the effect that Germany will be granted a loan by the Allies amounting to $1,250,000,000 or 5,000,000,000 gold marks. The Washington Government has stamped its approval on such loan. J. P. Morgan of New York, the world's greatest financier, leaves for Europe May 13th to meet with the Financial Sub-committee of the Allies reparations commission to go into the matter of making such a loan to Germany. Keyes of Stockton is the guest of her sister, Mrs. J. A. Clayes. Misses Florence and Harriet Austin entertained with a dancing party at the Silver Spray Dance hall in Long Beach on Monday evening. After the dance the two dozen guests enjoyed refreshments before returning to their home. The affair was given in honor of a cousin who is a guest at the Austin home. Mrs. J. Helmsen in company with Mrs. R. W. Jones of Orange returned Monday evening from Imperial Valley where they competed a five days business trip. J. W.
