SPORT PACKED HOUSE AT ELKS' BOXING SHOW A packed house of sport hungry boxing fans got their money's worth last night at the Elks club. There was a real card a genuine evening's entertainment; all the more satisfactory because it was the first in months served up locally. One of the features of the evening was the draw between Kid Loule, of Placentia, and Leonard Lee, Colorado champion, at 118. Loule lacked steam but that was all he did lack for he fought like a wildcat, coming back for more and still more punishment. The draw decision was eminently satisfactory to the crowd. In the other half of the double main event, Young Hoppe, of Glendale, and Johnnie Golindo, of Fullerton, started out to mix things in whirlwind fashion. Everything was going to the complete satisfaction of the bugs until Hoppe dropped from what he intimated was a foul—below the belt. There was considerable debate by crowd as to whether it was really foul or fake. Hoppe was carried off and the bout declared no contest. The argument as to whether the wrestler or the boxer is the better man was affirmed unanimously last night in favor of the former. Al Sparkes downed Tex Stovall four times, each fall coming inside a minute. Stovall could not keep Sparkes out of range and the minute the Garden Grove-rd rancher got his sinners about the Texan, there wa snothing to it. An unproarous feature was the battle royal between five negroes named Blue, Jackson, Blue, Jones and Smith. The latter was the winner. In the semi-final, Wm. Jackson, of Los Angeles, and Bernie Heller, Peris, started out a dancing engagement in the first round. In the second, Jackson put the K. O. to Heller. Carl Eckert, Fullerton, and Babe Orton, Anaheim, got a draw after four rounds. In the first, Eckert PLACE YOUR CLASSIFIED ADS BEFORE 13,000 READERS. NEW TODAY FIRST CLASS table board. Jackson of Los Angeles, and Bernie Heller, Perris, started out a dancing engagement in the first round. In the second, Jackson put the K. O. to Heller. Carl Eckert, Fullerton, and Babe Ortor, Anaheim, got a draw after four rounds. In the first, Eckert was put down on his knees. The program was opened at 8:50 between Bill Johnson of Corona and Bill Cordes of Anaheim. It didn't last long. Cordes started off by staggering his man, then dropping him to his knees then ramming him against the ropes twice and finally to the floor. Johnson quit. Referee Billy Darnley announced that the long mooted wrestling match between Al Sparkes and Roy Mabee would be pulled off at the same place next Thursday night. LOCAL B. B. GIRLS TAKE 8 STRAIGHT Winning eight games out of eight played is a good record and this is exactly the record that the baseball girls of the high school have made. With the winning of the game last evening with Huntington Beach on an 8 to 3 score, Anaheim made its 8th victory. Two of these games have been league affairs and six practice games but what they can do in a practice game they can do in a league game so another championship is anticipated. The game last night from a spectators standpoint was very thrilling. At the end of the sixth inning the score was tied 3 to 3. The local girls tuned up a bit more and as a result they walked away with five runs in the last three innings. Miss Jacques is the instructor and the girls on the steam and their positions are the Misses Young; Christon, p.; Requarth, 1b; Hartman, ss; Cordes, 2b; Poyet, 3b; Carner, rs; Adams, if; Holdsworth, cf; and Cook, Huarte, Dickenson, rf. Escondido has the championship honors of the southern county and this game will decide who is to be awarded the honors for So. Calif. Altho it has been two months since the girls have done any practicing they have accepted the challenge and will at once begin to practice. It will mean a great thing for the girls to go down there and come home with the honors. Coach Irene Jacques will take her nine champions who are the Misses Frances Adams, Helen Daly., Katherine Huarte, Mae Requarth, Viola Lensing, Esther Hile, Melbra Dugas, Ella Cook and Helen Daly. LOCAL STARS IN OCCIDENTAL MEET Cook, yesterday placed in the preliminaries for the So. Calif. meet to be held at Patterson Field. Occidental college tomorrow. He tied with three other cinder path stars. The only sprint held yesterday was the 440. Seims, another Anaheim star, will represent the local school in the high jump, the prelimits to be held tomorrow. This athlete placed third in the high jump in the Orange-co meet. He is in better condition today than he was at that time and he is expected to bring home several points. Cook will run in the prelimins in the 100 and 220-yd dash. This was definitely established when the terms of the new Military Service law became known. It provides for a standing army of 675,000 men. Including the colonial troops, the present military establishment is about 900,000 men, and it is not expected that this figure can be reduced to the announced 675,000 within less than 18 months. Attacks against France for "imperialism," owing to this vast army, are answered by French leaders with the statement that although the number of divisions is more than in 1914, the actual size of the army is less. Whereas in 1914 there were 950,000 men under arms there are today only 900,000 and will shortly be only 800,000. It is expected that the law will be passed by Parliament without much debate, although the Socialists and Communists threaten to do their best to block it.
