Miss Mead announced her approaching marriage about two weeks ago, and was made memorable with a shower of lovely presents. A game was announced in which it is necessary to unpack a suit case, don the garments, etc., and Miss Mead was ready for her part in the fun, never dreaming that any secret was contained in the baggage, as throughout the evening she had suspected the affair was to make an interesting announcement with reference to the hostess. But when the suit case was opened, great was Miss Mend's surprise as quantities of neatly wrapped packages fell into her hands, all marked for her. Of course the guests thoroughly enjoyed the feature, and when Miss Mead confessed her belief that the party was for the hostess' announcement, it was even funnier. Soon Miss Herzler was requested to show hr hope chest, to which she graciously consented and led the girls to her room upstairs. Upon returning to the lower floor, Miss Herzler was called into the dining room and was entirely overwhelmed with astonishment to find a great array of packages with her name attached. Again the guests had a hearty laugh, and Miss Mead soiled herself with quoting "he who laughs last, laughs best." The Herzler home was beautified with a yellow and white color combination, a favorite with the honoree, which was furthered in the refreshments. Yellow daisies were generously used, and favors, candy basket, place cards, all were in the pretty color. Brick ice cream with red hearts was served with assorted wafers. The guests who were present at the two showers, where but one had been planned by the hostess were the Drs. R. D. Alkman, Bessica Raische, H. GOLDEN WEDDING PARTY Mr. and Mrs. John Heinig, a venerable couple formerly of Orange county, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in their new home in Long Beach, at which a large company of relatives and friends were present. In golden floral setting the fifty-years bride and groom again took the vows from the Long Beach Lutheran church pastor, being attended by their two daughters, Mrs. L. Leimer, and Mrs. Rose Zeisenhenne, of Chicago, as matrons of honor. An original story, in which the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Heinig were interwoven, was read by Mrs. Peter Goddickson of Orange. The friends showered the couple with messages of love and happiness. They also received a large number of beautiful gifts in gold china and other valuable kinds. A fine "wedding" dinner was served to the assemblage of fifty friends and members of the family of the honored couple. PHILATHEAS HONOR MEBERS The Senior Philatheas enjoyed an evening with Miss Lillian Johnson at the pretty new C. P. J. Johnson home, in compliment to Mrs. Edward Anderson and Mrs. J. Bircher, and who were recipients of several pretty gifts. A program of music and readings, contributed by Miss Pearl Bircher, at the piano; Miss Laura Schutz, reading; Mrs. C. A. McCullah, piano, and chorus singing, was thoroughly enjoyed. Games and contests were given much attention also. Included in the happy affair were the Mesdames J. Bircher, Edward Anderson, Rena Wheeler, Bruce, Fred Weisel, Jorton, A. L. Schutz, Baker, Helen Pico, Britts, Clarence Hertzler, F. T. Edmiston, Ruth Wilson, C. A. McCullah, C. P. J.
