NEWS OF FULLERTON GOV. WILL SPEAK FOR HOUSER CLASS Arrangements have been made in the Houser Bible class to care for the big meeting Sunday when Gov. Wm. D. Stephens is to be the principal speaker. Pres. Dale King announced the governor was not to give a political address but was going to give a talk along the line of "Civic Righteousness." Mr. Houser announced that in view of the great numbers who would want to hear the governor, both men and women, and who would be unable to get in the Rialto theater, he had arranged for the governor to speak at the Christian church at 10:45 o'clock, the regular preaching hour. This meeting, he said was to care for the overflow. Men only are to be admitted to the theater. FULLLERTON B. OF T. MEETS The regular monthly meeting of the Fullerton B. of T. will be held tonight at the Fullerton club rooms over the Rialto theatre, a banquet being served by the ladies of the Ebell club. The feature of the evening will be an address by S. S. Reed of Santa Ana, it is stated, who is scheduled to talk on boosting home business. RUSH WORK ON HOTEL Work is progressing on the new hotel on No. Spadrn-rd in Fullerton, and more materials for the building are almost daily arriving on the grounds. Workmen are getting ready to begin work on the erection above the foundations, being almost hidden too mthe passerby, by the huge amount of materials about them. 69 AT KIWANIS LUNCHEON The regular weekly meeting of the Fullerton Kiwanis Club was held at noon today at the I. O. O. F. hall in Fullerton, there being no HOLD AUTO DRIVER UNDER $1000 BOND The five members of the automobile party which crashed into the car of Mrs. Dorothy Dray and son, Harold Dray, near Buena Park Sunday night, were brot before Judge French this morning. It was at first feared that Mrs. Dray, who was taken to her home at Hyde Park, Los Angeles, might not survive her injuries. Today it was stated prospects were brighter. Her son suffered serious injury to one hand. Joe Quintana, the driver of the car, was charged with driving while intoxicated, and charges of drunkenness were preferred against the remainder of the party consisting of Rudolph Balorezo, Fidel Garela, Florencisco Lujon and Luis Yslas. Quintana was remanded for trial to be held later and his bail fixed at $1,000. He was taken to the county jail. Pines were assessed against the others. Glen Callan is arraigned this morning before Judge French on the charge of reckless driving. He is alleged to have been drunk and to have had a bottle of booze on him and was fined $50. Edward Dunn who was with him was charged with drunkenness and his hearing set for tomorrow morning. MYSTERY WOMAN DENIES CONFESSION LOS ANGELES, April 18.-Declarating that she was not in Los Angeles at the time of the murder of Jacob Charles Denton, wealthy mining man, the so-called "mystery" woman who has been mentioned recently in the case in a statement made to Chief Deputy District Attorney Doran, denied that she had affirmed the "confession" of Mrs. Loie Louise Peete, who is serving a life sentence for the crime. SENTENCES SUSPENDED Frank Denhon and J. Stallekin were arrested last evening by Joe Marrillo, Fullerton deputy marshal, on the charge of evading railroad fare, and were sentenced today to 20 days each in the Orange-co jail. LOS ANGELES, April 18—The sale of the Balboa Hotel at 1215-27 West Seventh-st to Charles C. Chapman, Fullerton, capitalist and owner of the Chapman building, for a reported price of $300,000, was announced yesterday by R. A. Rowman & Co., agents in the transaction. The property, considered one of the best on West Seventh-st, was formerly owned by W. W. Paden and C. H. Price, the sellers in the transaction just closed. The Balboa Hotel erected several years ago, is a four-story structure containing 187 rooms. The property has a frontage of 197 feet on Seventh-st, with a depth of 130 feet. The ground floor contains six stores. The eleven-story class A building now under course of construction on the site adjoining the Balboa Hotel was not included in the transaction, Messrs. Paden and Price retaining the ownership of this property. Mr. Chapman bought the hotel as an investment, and no changes or improvements are contemplated, it is stated. The hotel was recently leased for a ten-year period to Mr. and Mrs. L. Kalish, who will continue to operate it under the new ownership. MUSHROOM TOWNS PRECEDE SUGAR MILL FRESNO, April 18.—Two mushroom "shack towns" have sprung up between here and the San Joaquin river, as a prelude to the erection of a $2,000,000 sugar pine mill here.
