He wounded an animal in the hind quarters so that it was left in a sitting position. It could not get up and it would not lie down and die as desired. The young Indian, much to the delight of his older companions, leaped from his pony and grabbed the animal by the horns like a wrestler and tried to thrown him to the ground. Ever thereafter, as long as he lived he was known as Sitting Bull. "Rain-In-the-Face" received his title when he was a wee baby strapped to a board. His mother stood baby and board against the outside of the tepee while she was busy on the inside. In the mantime a gentle spring shower came up. Hearing baby laughter the mother stepped outside to see what was so amusing to her young hopeful. The rain drops were gently glowing against his face which seemed to be a source of great joy to him. From that day on he was called Rain-In-the-Face.
