Saturday, April 8, 1922 IN SOILY LABORATE PRODUCTION BY LATIN STUDENTS The long anticipated Spring Festival given by the Latin departments of the high school was held in the auditorium last evening, a good crowd being present at the rendition. Sixty-five students participated in the affair, this being the largest in its class to be given at the local school for some years. One feature about the production was the excellent lighting effects that were produced on the stage, the scenery was new and the costumes were made and fitted for the festival. The curtain opened with the procession of the participants to the stage, and from there they sang the opening chorus, which was well enjoyed from beginning to the end. Miss Merle Simon gave a brief synopsis of the events and plays as they appeared that the audience might better follow the meaning of the program. The first act was a scene of Persephone and Ceres, mother and daughter who were on the earth, and followed along with Persephone being captured by Pluto and taken to the underworld. During these scenes the effect was made more beautiful by the dances of the Sea Nymphs and Dryads, and the Shades. Another part of the program was the unique "song and dance of the Salli," rendered by 12 of the Latin students. A short play called the "Tirones" or The Recruits, dealing with the soldiers going off to war and leaving the women behind, was given by the more advanced students. This part was in Latin but an interpretation preceded the play. Another very enjoyable number was the song "Awake, Aurora, Awake," rendered by Mises Constance Williams, Alberta Priddy, Mary Kane and Mildred Mauerhan. The prettiest scene of the entire program was the Rohan wedding for a finale. Miss Dorothy Bishop was the bride and the young groom was Marlowe James. In the last part of the wedding the groom carries his bride away to his place where they are destined to follow the customs of their people. Miss Margaret McOmie acted as the interpreter. As a closing number, Miss Doris Shaffer. PLACE YOUR CLASSIFIED ADS BEFORE 13,000 READERS. NEW TODAY FOR RENT—New flats. Adults. Inquire 111 E. Alberta. FOR RENT—3-room house with garage. The prettiest scene of the entire program was the Roman wedding for a finale. Miss Dorothy Bishop was the bride and the young groom was Marlene Janes. In the last part of the wedding the groom carries his bride away to his place where they are destined to follow the customs of their people. Miss Margaret McOmie acted as the interpreter. As a closing number, Miss Doris Eden very appropriately sang a Slumber Song. Special music featured the presentation of this unique play, and the director and teacher Miss Nettie Matheena Owen, was assisted by Miss Jacques, Irene MacLean, Howard B. Kellam for the shopwork, and Libyd Ross for the printing and the students in the stage craft class for their splendid work in making last night's affair one of the most enjoyable for some time. During intermission Miss Dorothy Winter, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Winters, in her attractive way whistled a number of solos. She was accompanied by her sister, Miss Florence, on the piano. James Tuma read a paper from an oration by Vice President Coolidge to the Classical Association in the east on "The Classics of America." YOUNG SET HAS BEACH PARTY A dozen and a half of the Anaheim younger set enjoyed a wienie bake and beach party at Anaheim standing last evening. This is the second of the delightful parties to be given by this group and others of a similar nature will occur after the spring vacation. The crowd played various games and had music and songs and at a late hour returned to their homes. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound Los Angeles, Calif. — "I must tell you that I am a true friend to Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. I have taken it off and on for twenty years and it has helped me change from a delicate girl to a stout, healthy woman. When I was married I was sick all the time until I took Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. I was in bed much of my time with pains and had to have the doctor every month. One day I found a little book in my yard in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and I read it through and got the medicine—Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound—and took eight bottles and used the Sanative Wash. I at once began to get stronger. I have got many women to take it just by telling them what it has done for me. I have a young sister whom it has helped in the same way it helped me. I want you to know that I am a 'friend indeed,' for you were a 'friend in need.'" —Mrs. GEORGE HARDEE, 1043 Byram St., Los Angeles, California. Let Lydia E.
