BUENA PARK MAN ON BURNING SHIP
BUENA PARK, April 6.—(Spl.)
Mr. A. Luekbeman returned on Saturday from a four months tour of European countries. He returned on the U. S. Mall Liner Potomac, which had been used as a transport during the war and still had the hold stored full of mattresses. A fire broke out in the burning these mattresses and a number of life preservers. A hole was chopped in the side of the ship and water pumped in, extinguishing the flames which had caused considerable excitement among the passengers. After landing he went to Washington and visited the senate, where the Jap question was being discussed. Another stop was made at Philadelphia, Pa., where he visited with a borer of Mrs. Luekbeman, Mr. G. E. Woerner.
Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Cauthon moved into the Schofield house on Tuesday.

Among the boys to go were Percy and Preston Owens, Charles Brown, Ronald Wright, Clarence Jaynes and Eugene Childers.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Luekbemau were guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eller at Long Beach.
Mrs. Charles Gerwin was a Fullerton visitor on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Shaw and son, Rob, motored to Los Angeles on Sunday.

Village Gossip
Mrs. E. R. Stillens of Garden Grove recommends use of dehydrator instead of unsatisfactory old method on stove.
The results of last year's extension work conducted in Orange-co for the women has received O.K. from many of the ladies who took advantage of the instructions given.
Tentative plans have been made to conduct a series or meetings to demonstrate the building and use of dehydrator and sample of finished product made from one built in 1921.
Reports have come to farm bureau and farm advisor's office from several ladies, and anyone interested in preserving vegetables and fruits can get information on the dehydrator by getting names of owners at 508 N. Main-st., Santa Ana.
When C. W. Hedges picked up The Plain Dealer the other night and read under a Denver date line that "Engineer Geo. Fouts is back at the throttle on No. 2534, Burlington locomotive that carried him into the flooded waters of the Platte near Union, Colo., last June he that the engine number sounded familiar. So he pulled out an old memorandum book and sure enough there it was.
Hedges was a locomotive engineer for 22 years, 11 as traveling engineer in which he had charge of all engineers and brakemen on the division.
"No. 2534 must be at least 20 years old," says Hedges. "However that is nothing unusual. They are just like Fords. When a part wears out it is replaced. After a time you have a new engine but it still goes under the same number."
Hedges quit the railroad and came to Anaheim in 1906. He says he wishes he had quit ten years sooner, before "it got his goat."
"When I got so I could only sleep a couple of hours after being out for 36 or 48, I knew it was time to quit," he says.
Hedges is now engineering a flivver on an Anaheim mall route.
CRUSHING PLANT
Mrs. D. D. Luzier of Richfield spent Monday with Mrs. Paul Luzier.
There is a road show at the California today. One of the features is the entertainment given by the three senators, Hayden, Hall and Snyder, who offer "1000 pounds of harmony." There are also other vaudeville features. The moving picture includes an all-star cast in "Burn-em-up Barnes."
"The Rider of the King Log" is seen at the Fairyland.

No More Gas in Stomach and Bowels
If you wish to be permanently relieved of gas in the stomach and bowels, take Baalmann's Gas Tablets.
Baalmann's Gas Tablets are prepared distinctly for stomach gas, and for all the bad effects coming from gas pressure.
That empty, gnawing feeling at the pit of your stomach disappears, that anxious, nervous feeling with heart palpitation will vanish, and you will again be able to take a deep breath, often prevented by gas pressing against your heart and lungs.
Your limbs, arms and fingers won't feel cold and go to sleep because Baalmann's Gas Tablets prevent gas interfering with the circulation; drowsiness, sleepy feeling after dinner will be replaced by a desire for some form of entertainment. Your distended stomach will reduce because gas will not form after using Baalmann's Gas Tablets.

CRUSHING PLANT READY BY MAY 1ST
The Orange-co Rock and Gravel Co. will have their new crushing plant at Orange in operation by May 1. It was announced today by an official of the company. He added:
"This plant was built at a cost of $95,000, to meet the increasing demand for better road and building material. The plant will give Orange-co the very best material obtainable in So. Cal., as nothing has been overlooked in the construction of the new plant to produce quality material at a saving to the taxpayers.
"The road program over the United States for the coming year is large and we know that Orange-co as usual will keep pace with any other county. The government statistics show that 85 percent of the roads that were built in the United States were of concrete construction and it will take a large amount of rock to complete this program. All the material can be obtained at home with the advantage of a better material at a less cost.
"One big advantage in the new plant is that it is situated on the railroad. The materials can be shipped by rail instead of hauling with truck which heretofore has been the only practical way of getting the rock and sand to the job. The new crushing plant is equipped to turn out material that will comply with the strictest specifications of city, county and state, as only the latest crushing and washing machinery is being used."

MRS. GARDNER AND FILM AT FAIRYLAND
Who is it that has not heard of Roy Gardner, probably the most notorious human being that ever broke into print, excepting Kaiser Wilhelm? If this question was put to a majority of the people, probably most of them would say at least 90 per cent.
In that event, there are a great number of people who surely will be interested in knowing that the Fairyland theater management has succeeded in booking Mrs. Roy Gardner, wife of the noted outlaw, together with a sensational photoplay showing the spectacular escapes of this fail-breaker.
The picture opened this afternoon to a large audience, but owing to future bookings, it was only possible for the Fairyland to secure Mrs. Gardner and her picture for today and tomorrow.
The only reason Mrs. Gardner is exhibiting this picture is for the purpose of raising money to have an operation performed upon her husbands' skull, so that he may walk out of the penitentiary a sane and normal citizen.
Mrs. Gardner will tell all about her husband from the stage of the Fairyland theater each performance, and it will indeed prove very entertaining, according to the reports received this far.
OMIT "OBEY" FROM CEREMONY
NEW YORK, April 6—Omission of the word "obey" and the compulsory giving in marriage from the Episcopal marriage service is recommended by the commission on revision of the book of common prayer in a report made here. Another recommendation is the omission of the bridegroom's pledge "With all my worldly goods I thee endow."
INCREASED DEMAND FOR FORD PRODUCTS
George Dunton, local Lincoln Ford and Fordson distributor, reports an increasing demand for Lincoln enclosed Fords and tractors.
One So. Cal. agent for the Lincoln has 60 unfilled orders and it is estimated there are more than 100 back orders in this part of the country. The factory is now far behind on deliveries and the demand is increasing.
The Ford Motor Co. is behind on deliveries of enclosed models of Fords and tractors.
Dunton sold three Ford coupes yesterday.

NEWHOPE DRAINAGE DISTRICT PLANNED
The rising water table is becoming a problem of much concern with a large number of farmers in the Buaro and Newhope districts located south of Garden Grove.
A committee from these districts recently waited on Mr. W. W. Weir, drainage engineer of the University of California who was summoned to Orange-co by Farm Advisor Wahlberg.
The Buaro people made an effort to perfect a drainage district last year, but were not able to get a satisfactory outlet. With the increasing need for drainage in the territory immediately south of Buaro, embracing the Newhope section, the property owners feel much encouraged about obtaining a satisfactory outlet for a more comprehensive drainage system.
L. A. West has been retained legal advisor for the project. A meeting of property owners from Newhope and Buaro will be held in the farm bureau office, 508 N. Main-st., Santa Ana, Wednesday night, 7:30 p.m. to confer with an engineer, their attorney and the farm advisor.
The proposed district will embrace about 2,500-3,000 acres. Test borings have disclosed shallow water tables, varying from 12 inches to 4 feet. Under such unfavorable conditions, very few crops will return maximum yields; in fact trees will not thrive, but will deteriorate as the roots penetrate the lower soil strata. Only by proper control of the rising water table can agriculture become a permanent industry in these sections.
