15 DODGE CARS SOLD IN FEBRUARY Nine new cars and six used cars were delivered by Charles H. Mann, agent for the Dodge, during February. Purchasers of new cars were J. E. Schumacher, ton and a half truck; H. H. Hale, Placentia, sedan; M. J. Kerin, Placentia, touring car; Union Oil Company, touring car; Wonder Co., Ltd., Placentia, roadster; Ross Johnson, Placentia, roadster; G. O. Payne, touring car; E. H. Tempisman, roadster; R. L. Pourman, sedan. There were six purchasers of used cars. Dan Burch, of 1195 East Fortyninth street, Los Angeles, a Dodge fan, has just come out with a story of what his car did in trips aggregating 250,000 miles in the United States and Alaska. He said: "Myself and associates were engaged in various mining enterprises in the vicinity of Fairbanks, Alaska, and it was during our two years of toil and hardship spent in Alaska that we really learned just how much terrific punishment a Dodge Brothers car could take and still run on in the same old dependable way. While the car was not in use by myself or friends, we were in the habit of renting it out as a stage and mail carrier between Fairbanks, which is in the interior, and Chitna, which is near the Coast. The car did this strenuous duty for nearly two full years, from 1915 to 1917." "And here perhaps is the most remarkable fact of all, to this day we have never had a nut, an axe or anything else changed in the rear end of this car. It was opened and looked at once, but nothing was replaced. The same is true of the transmission, nothing has ever been changed or replaced in it." Will Ho. "Red School" Unless He Is Paroled COLUMBUS, O., Mar. 3—Unless William Moore, Jr., prisoner in the Ohio state penitentiary, is released by April 27, the little red schoolhouse at Point Pleasant, O., which U. S. Grant attended as a boy, will take na part in the 100th birthday anniversary of the famous Union general, who later became president of the U. S. NEW JEWETT CAR COMES THIS MONTH Arrival of the new Jewett car, the latest creation of the Paige people, is definitely expected toward the close of this month, it is announced at Sam Hubkel's. Not even Los Angeles has received the car yet, although a demonstration model was shown recently. Here are some of the features of the car: Six-cylinder motor, separate cylinder head, fully enclosed and lubricated valves, drop forged connecting rods, water circulation for cooling by centrifugal pump, Remy starting motor and generator, Long dry clutch, special transmission lock, controlled by Yale cylinder, best Timken axles, service foot brakes and emergency hand brake, special spring stock. Gemmer irreversible steering gear, worm and nut type; fuel vacuum from 17 gallon tank at rear, wheelbase of 112 inches and tread of 56 inches, wood artillery wheels, five demountable rims and carrier, and 31 by 4 cord tires. J. L. Gates has purchased a Paige 644 sedan, Vincent Yorba a Larchmont type of four passenger speedster, and Robert Jensen a used Paige five-passenger touring car. A Glenbrook type 644 touring car also has been sold. Several other sales are in prospect. DR. LORENZ FAVORS CORSETS FOR WOMEN The statement of Dr. Adolf Lorenz, the world famous surgeon, that all women should wear corsets, has caused a furore. Dr. Lorenz declares that the cornd and other afflictions, but it gives a sense of being well dressed to the wearer and this he states is highly desirable from a health standpoint. "Wear a corset," says Dr. Lorenz. "But don't select it in a hap-nazard manner. Get one that fits. I frequently prescribe corsets for my women patients." SINGER HAS RANGE OF FIVE OCTAVES From Vienna to a New York newspaper comes the assertion of a sensation having been caused in that city in the discovery of a singer— Will Ho. "Red School" Unless He Is Paroled COLUMBUS, O., Mar. 3.—Unless William Moore, Jr., prisoner in the Ohio state penitentiary, is released by April 27, the little red schoolhouse at Point Pleasant, O., which U.S. Grant attended as a boy, will take na part in the 100th birthday anniversary of the famous Union general, who later became president of the U.S. Moore has refused high offers for the old schoolhouse, which stands on his land near Point Pleasant, until he has been pardoned or paroled. Three places will celebrate Grant's birthday — Point Pleasant, where he was born; Washington, where a memorial will be unveiled, and New York, where he is buried. SINGER HAS RANGE OF FIVE OCTAVES From Vienna to a New York news-paper comes the assertion of a sensation having been caused in that city in the discovery of a singer—Michael Pritta, 44 years of age, who is said to have a voice with a range of five octaves. The ability to sing extreme notes—either high or low in the scale—mean little to the art of the singer, or to the technic. It is quality which counts first; thereafter other requisites. $100 SALE We have five (5) touring cars that we will positively sell to the first ones who come in for $100 each.
