Latest Pickford Film Star’s Best Work SCENE FROM, MARY PICKFORD’S “LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY” You will laugh uproariously, and you will cry when you see Mary Pickford in „Little Lord Fauntleroy“ at the Fairyland. And you will say that it is one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, of photoplays ever shown—certainly the greatest echema Mary Pickford has ever made. In transcribing Frances Hodgson Burnett’s famous story to the silver-sheet, Miss Pickford has established her claim to the title, „Queen of the Sscreen“; for the essence of the book-version has been retained and the charm of Little Mary’s interpretations please beyond measure. In the lexion of praise there are no words comprehensive enough to set forth the glory of this wonder play. Never in her career of superb work has Mary Pickford done anything ap- she played a dual role: Miss Pickford’s presentation of the two characters, Dearest, the mother, and Ceric Errol who later becomes Lord Fauntleroy, sets a new mark for things cinematic. Unquestionably this picture pushes the film industry ahead many leagues. In fact, a new goal has been set for all other producers to strive for. The story of „Little Lord Fauntleroy“ is too well known to be repeated here. Suffice it to say that the Pickford adaptation adheres very closely to the Burnett plot, with the result that none who has read the book will take offense at the play. What is more Mary Pickford is a decidedly boyish Fauntleroy curls and all. One actually forgets she is a girl. She proves herself a consummate artist by her splendid interpretation of this role. FLU TAKE RAP AT FULLERTON TEAM Two league basketball games between Fullerton and Santa Ana were scheduled this afternoon at Fullerton. Some of Fullerton's best players are out of the running, Oral Carpenter, Louis Kraemer and George Osborne of the first team being sick of influenza, and Leonard Lemke has the mumps. The members of the first team expected to play are: Jean Arroues, Paul Dewhirst, Merrill Gregory, Fred Hemalhalch, Gil McDermott, Ed Salter and Ted Shipkey. The second team members in fighting trim are: Bob Dowling, Ernest Everett, Ed Healy, Ralph Hill, Alvo Hill, Alva Johnson, William Montague, Lester Schofield, Lee White and Kendall Yorba. THE SHOE PINCHED Canon Aitken once had an amusing experience in a London church, where a good man had contrived to induce his brother—who was an utterly godless man, and never entered a place of worship—to come and hear the canon preach. This brother was so little used to church going that he had no idea of the proprieties usually observed within the walls of the sacred edifice. As soon as he was seated beside his brother, looking around with much interest, he remarked loud enough for all around to hear: "So this is a church, is it? Well, I don't know that I was ever inside one before, but it's a very nice-looking building." Presently the canon began to preach, and he listened for a time with evident interest, until the preacher happened to look directly towards him as he said some very strong things about the sin of intemperance. At once the man began to be very uncomfortable, and at last, turning to his brother, said: "I look here! I'm going to get out of this. I'm not going to have him lecturing me like this here, before all the people!" And, in spite of his brother's efforts to keep him quiet, he got up, and with sundry ejaculations of wrath and disgust, stalked down the aisle and left the church.
