ALEXANDER GIANTS WILL MEET ELKS

The Smoked Irishmen are the last pastimers to claim a win over the Anaheim Elk champions. That was accomplished just before the winup.

The University of Idaho, with six victories and no defeats, leads in the Pacific Coast Conference basketball league.
The Southern branch of the University of California leads in the Southern California basketball conference, with nine victories and one defeat.
Nearly 150 players competed in two golf tournaments held at the Los Angeles Country Club today.
St. Louis, Feb. 22 — At Walker or California was knocked out by Pewee Kaiser in the sixth round of what was scheduled to be a 12-round bout.
Stainlaus Chbyszko, heavyweight wrestling champion, will retire in May. He hopes to retire still undefeated, he said.
The California Coast league nines will begin active training next week. The Angeleno athletes begin at Elsinore next Wednesday.
The first and second Varsity and two Freshman crews of the University of California are practicing on the Oakland estuary.
Thirty-eight crack horses have been named to enter the U. S. Grant Hotel stakes at Tla Juana next Sunday. The winner will take $7750 net.
BEACH LOTS CAUSE OF MUCH LITIGATION
The "encyclopedia oil lots" at Huntington Beach again came to the front today in a suit to quiet title, filed in the superior court by one set of claimants against another set.
Once casually thrown in with a set of encyclopedias for a few dollars, to be paid in installments, and later made valuable by the Huntington Beach oil discovery which sent numerous owners to retrieve their dusty deeds from the hall clock or other forgotten hiding places, five more of these lots are now the subject of controversy.
John Holly, J. S. Wallace, H. A. Morgan, F. O. Keyes and George H. Blood, who claim to have secured deeds to the lots after completing payments for the encyclopedias, filed

PLAN TO SEND PIN TEAM TO SPOKANE
Jimmy Heffron and "Stormy Bill" Gordon have launched a plan to send an Orange-co bowling team to the Northwest International Bowling Congress at Spokane the second week in April. They believe C. of C. members throughout the county will see the advertising benefit to be derived from such a scheme to get behind it for the expenses which would amount to about $1000. The Orange-co team would probably cover the longest distance in getting to the event and that fact would make for publicity in large gobs.
Last year's congress at Spokane attracted 75 five-men teams and this year there will be at least 100. Heffron, who has made Anaheim his home in the last year, cleaned up in the all-events and singles at Spokane's last tourney.
The proposition has developed keen interest in the probable personnel of the Orange-co team. Local fans today seemed to center on the following lineup: "Bugs" Raymond, Karam, Gordon, Heffron and Evans or Myre.
NO SUNDAY TRAINS
When Henry Ford bought the D. T. & I. railroad, running from Detroit to Ironton, on the Ohio river, he stopped Sunday trains, established an eight hour day, and increased the pay of the men. And now he is making money out of a railroad property that has been a loser for 50 years. Ford himself does not travel on Sunday, if he can possibly avoid it.
S. Wafface, H. A. Morgan, F. O. Keyes and George H. Blood, who claim to have secured deeds to the lots after completing payments for the encyclopedias, filed suit against G. A. Parker, the Globe Petroleum corporation, Louis A. Copeland, J. W. Wartnaby, the First National bank of Huntington Beach, F. W. Forster, C. C. Closson, W. W. Sinbler, Jennie E. Clippinger, I. M. Clippinger, D. W. Hearn, Belle K. Hearne, Geo. L. Machris, A. C. Machris, V. A. Machris, S. E. Hearn and Corn W. Hearn.
According to the contention of the plaintiffs the encyclopedias were sold by the Brabamon Realty company which purchased the tract and gave the lots away with the books. Later, becoming involved in financial difficulties, their affairs were placed in the hands of Leo Rappaport, an attorney of Indianapolis, Indiana who executed the deeds, it is alleged, to the encyclopedia buyers a sthe completed their payments. Many of these deeds were not recorded.
Later, it is contended by the plaintiffs, Rappaport gave quit-claim deeds for the same lots to other persons. The plaintiffs contend that he was carrying out a trust in executing the first deeds and had no right to give the quitclaim deeds later.
Attorney W. F. Menton represents the plaintiffs.

FARM WOMEN WANT HELP ON PROBLEMS
Five or six Farm Center Committees have asked Assistant Advisor Scott to help outline work to include women, with a view to securing services of home demonstration agent for Oronge-co. Although many of the projects already suggested which include the help of the agricultural extension service, have a direct bearing on the bettering of Farm Home conditions, still there are special problems which need more careful consideration and the support of the Farm Bureau as well.
Preliminary steps have been taken to adopt a plan of work for 1922 even though a County Home Demonstration Agent cannot be added to the County Extension Force this year. The University of California has done, and is doing some excellent work for the farm women of the state, which should be included in the program for Orange County. Some of the outstanding projects consist of canning, drying and evaporating of fruits and vegetables, household management, interior decorating, kitchen arrangement, millinery classes and dressmaking, child nutrition and selection of seasonal foods.

The following communication puzzled the state livestock sanitary official:
"You know that when you were over here this Spring you looked at my cow—she has gotten no better and I have gotten up five or six more, and as my wife is going away about the 20th, I desire to send her along if she hasn't tuberculosis, but if she has I wish to kill her now, I will thank you to come and give her the test along with the others. Bad Eye-Sight National Danger Says Coolidge
BAD eye-sight is as dangerous to the nation, as it is to the individual.
Such is the warning in the interest of universal eye conservation just issued by Vice President Coolidge.
The man, whose clear sight read the peril in the Boston police strike and whose firm hand throttled the threatened anarchy, sees the need of mechanical and spiritual vision in America.
"It has been said that trifles make perfection, but perfection is no trifle," Vice President Coolidge states. "This is the standard of present day accomplishment. It is not enough that a person be able to perform a certain operation, it must be well performed."
When it is understood that the clearness of mental operations depends upon the clearness of perception, it follows as a matter of course that unless there be clear vision there cannot be clear judgment. To lack the senses is to lack intelligence.
"The clear result of defective vision is, in the first place, inability to perform the mechanical operations in the various trades and walks of life successfully; and, in the second place, inability to develop the reasoning powers to their full capacity. It is no accident that in early languages to see was to know. A person and a nation, to be successful, to have that mechanical and spiritual vision which makes for progress, must be able to see."
