NEWS OF FULLERTON
WANTS PERMIT TO RETAIN HIS DOG
Dr. D. C. Cowell, well-known Fullerton surgeon, appeared before the trustees of Fullerton last night, and most humbly beseeched that august body that, since he had paid the dog license, they would somehow amend their ordinance that the official dog-catcher would not catch his dog anymore.
He most ardently defended the character of Touser, and declared the dog-catcher would not get him only that he was a dog that could be caught by whistling to. He said his is a good dog, and doesn't pester anyone, but that he goes with him on his official rounds, and minds his car while he calls on his patients. The car was robbed of morphine tablets by drug fiends eight times before he began to take the dog with him, he said. Since that time it has not been robbed at all.
He said the city would not permit him to put a fence about his yard, and thus keep his dog inside, and that he would not chain the dog because that would be inhuman, and that he did not want to dispose of him.
Indeed, the doctor made an eloquent appeal for his canine friend, but, alas, without avail. The law is no respecter of persons, and it is in this case as in others that the good must suffer with the bad. L. P. Drake, trustee, said he had no objection to Dr. Cowell's keeping a dog—if he would keep him on his own property. But that dogs would not be permitted to run loose in Fullerton—the city has outgrown its "dog days," it was affirmed. It is said that the dog license may be repealed, but that dogs will not be permitted loose in Fullerton.
A.U.W. GRANTED EASEMENT
Fullerton trustees at their regular weekly meeting last night granted an easement to the Anaheim Union Wafer Co., across city property in Walnut Park addition for the installment.
WANT MORE MONEY TO DIG RESERVOIR
The proposed new city reservoir on Hillcrest was discussed last night at the meeting of Fullerton trustees. The contractors have found that they have bitten off more than they can chew, or, in other words, that the cost of the reservoir will be more than was covered by their bids, and they seek additional compensation. The city engineer takes the stand that they cannot get it. The matter, however, was passed over und will be put up to L. P. Lippencott, consulting engineer.
LEASE FULLERTON
HOTEL FOR $20,000
Fullerton's new hotel will be leased to R. A. Durbin, experienced hotel man, for $20,000 a year. It was decided this morning at the meeting of the hotel committee which passed a resolution to this effect. Mr. Durbin will be required to keep everything in order about the place.
The bids which were opened Monday were held over, and will not be passed upon until more money is raised, it was decided. It was stated that efforts would be made at once to raise the amount of subscriptions to $150,000 before the bids were considered further. Since the fund is now something like $132,000, it is hoped to raise the remainder in about a week or 10 days.
APPROVE MAP OF ADDITION
The map of the Clemmens addition of Fullerton was approved by Fullerton trustees last night.
The engineer was also instructed to install a culvert on West Common-worth near the road going to the Bastanchury ranch. It was stated that a 12-inch culvert will serve at this time. It is later planned to place a dip there.
The trustees also discussed the pipe P.T. A. WILLIAM PATRIOTIC BUENA PARK
