Tuesday, February 7, 1922 SPORTING EVENTS WRIGLEY ATTEMPTS AMBASSADORS BEAT TO GET BOAT RACE DEW DROPS 2 TO 1 That William Wrigley, owner of Catalina island, is laying plans for a determined fight to espree Orange county of one of the most valuable advertising assets to which it has fallen heir in many year, is the statement made by Commodore Claude Putman at an adjourned meeting of the members of the Newport Harbor Yacht club. Wrigly, with his millions of wealth, is trying, it was attested, to take the 1922 regatta of the So. Calif. Yacht-ing Ass'n away from Orange-co's harbor. The regatta was awarded to the Newport Harbor Yacht club at last year's annual meeting of the association. It developed last week at a meeting of the association that Wrigley desires to stage the next regatta at Avalon and is prepared to spend a large sum of money to accomplish his end. Charges that the entrance to Newport harbor was not deep enough to admit the large boats that will enter the regatta were made at the association meeting by men said to be representing Wrigley. It was also declared that Newport and Balboa do not have the accommodations proper to handle the crowd that will attend and take part in the regatta. Lew Wallace, secretary of the Orange-co harbor commission declared when these charges were revealed, that the harbor entrance and channel will take care of any boat entering the regatta and that the city plans many improvements to be completed before next August, the month in which the regatta is to be held. No-table among these are the sewer system, paving of many streets and the dredging of a turning basin near the yacht club at a cost of $30,000. Commodore Smith and Putman will represent the Orange-co club at a meeting of the association to be held next Friday night in Los Angeles Little Ambassadors McClester ... 113 165 127 415 138 Schlueler ... 188 151 155 494 165 Crooks ... 167 172 153 492 164 Wulf ... 206 170 147 523 174 Karam ... 190 184 181 560 187 866 847 773 2484 Dew Drop Inn Newer ... 166 144 142 452 151 Reyborn ... 102 106 116 324 108 Hofbower ... 166 150 184 500 167 Mertin ... 179 190 164 533 178 Dugas ... 195 182 184 561 187 808 772 790 2395 Dunton's Fords Cordes ... 180 137 161 478 159 Holland ... 132 111 139 382 127 Perry ... 157 153 164 474 158 Hunt ... 152 150 128 430 143 Johnson ... 174 176 184 534 178 795 727 778 2298 Tridle & Tridle Mitchell ... 162 161 160 483 161 Ferris ... 168 150 175 493 164 Yeorn ... 186 155 167 508 169 Moore ... 132 129 133 394 131 Efker ... 156 199 189 544 181 804 794 824 2422 Last night's bowling in the city league between Little Ambassador and Dew Drop Inn teams was won by the former team winning two out of three games. HI COURT TO HEAR CRASH CASE APPEAL Notice of appeal was filed in the superior court by C. J. Crosby, defendant in a recent damage suit brot by Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Warner against him and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Tedford, in which a jury awarded the Warners judgment for approximately $3,300 against Crosby. The appeal will be taken to the state supreme court. The award to the Warners was based upon injuries received by Mrs. Warner while riding as a passenger on a stage operated by Crosby between Santa Ana and Huntington Beach. The Stage collided with a car driven by Mrs. Tedford and overturned. In their suit the Warners included the Tedfords as defendants, but the court dismissed the suit insofar as it related to them.
