THURSDAY; January 19, 1922 SPORTING EVENTS LOCAL GIRLS WIN TWO MORE GAMES Another victory has been added to the many already collected by the girls basketball teams of the local high school. Two fast teams went to Santa Ana last evening and the same two fast teams came home with that many victories. The skeeter team did some very excellent playing, as the score of 27 to 8 shows. The skeeters of the county are not organized into a league but that team has won every game it has played. The first team did some very notable work, in fact they picked up a 28 to 12 score. With a victory this afternoon, Anaheim high school will hold the county championship in basketball. Garden Grove is an easy mark and another victory is assured. The boys basketball teams have not had such good luck in their games this year. However, they still have their league games to play, contests to date having been for practice. Yesterday the boys went to Franklin high where they were given a warm reception. The Franklin melon-tossers sent the local boys home with 5 points while they kept 43. The first of league game will be played tomorrow at Fullerton. BASEBALL PRACTICE WILL START FEB. 19 Baseball practice at the Fullerton high school is expected to begin Feb. 19, and Coach "Shorty" Smith has reason to rejoice in that he is losing but two of the players who won the county championship last season. Weiland and Callahan have since graduated. His hopes are running high, consequently. Some of the most interesting and SANTA ANA SEEKING SOUTH. CALIF. MEET Santa Ana high school field may be the scene of the So. Calif. high school track and field meet. Members of the California Inter-scholastic federation are scheduled to meet in the Los Angeles Y. M. C. A. Saturday morning to make the choice, according to Seth Van Patten of Los Angeles, who is in charge of the meet. J. F. Malcolm of San Juan Capas-trano, is the Orange county league representative and he will urge the Federation to accept an invitation extended some time ago by Principal D. K. Hammond of Santa Ana. The meet is scheduled to take place April 22, but the choice of the field is yet to be made. Poly field, with the improvements now under way, would be second to none in So. Calif. Few if any fields boast of a 220-yard straight way such as is being built. Nine lanes are available, and a concrete curb is being laid around the track. A complete watering system is being installed, and altogether the track will afford many advantages. The fact that the grandstand seats 2300, with 700 more to be accommodated on the smaller stands, thus allowing a large number to view the progress of the events is a consideration. TELL PLANS AS TO HOSPITAL ADDITION The new county hospital addition, bids for which will be opened Feb. 14 by supervisor, will cost in the neighborhood of $25,000 and will be used as a psychopathic ward. It will be constructed to the north of the present hospital and designed to conform throughout to the type of architecture of the present building. The two buildings will be approximately 30 feet apart, connected by a bridge over a driveway. In the proposed addition, the dimensions of which will be 30 by 40 feet, there will be 12 rooms, including a reception room for visitors, and a small emergency court room for examination of patients who cannot be taken to the court house in Santa Ana. The basement, under the plans, will house equipment for hydrotherapy and electro-therapy. The disturbing appearance of heavy bars at the windows will be eliminated by the use of a heavy wire, which will serve the same purpose as bars. When completed, the building, it was stated today, will require the employment of two more nurses, one male and one female. MURATORE QUITS GARDEN CHICAGO, Jan. 19—Lucien Muratore, noted tenor, announced that he will no longer sing in the Chicago Grand Opera Company if it remains under the direction of Mary Garden, operatic soprano. "A woman cannot properly conduct a great opera — a woman is too changeable," he said to have declared. His declaration is said to be connected with treatment accorded Lina Cavalleri, his wife, the well-known soprano. Miss Garden says Americans hereafter will be given the preference in roles in the company. P. E.
