SCOUT ACTIVITIES TO BE STIMULATED Boy Scout activities in Orange-co will be given a healthy stimulus early in the new year, according to a statement by Guy J. Gilbert, chairman of the committee appointed recently to devise ways and means for adding the financial campaign to be launched in this city. The drive, according to Gilbert, will be on in full swing early in February, but the executive head who will have active charge of the campaign remains to be named. Several prominent men have been under consideration for some time, Gilbert said; and a selection will be sometime in the present month. The present plan, worked out by Gilbert and his associate committeemen, will call for concerted action upon the part of every man and woman interested in Boy Scout work in Orange-co. It has been decided to carry on the work under divisional heads located at central points throughout the county. District No. 1 embraces San Juan Capistrano, Irvine, Tustin and other contiguous territory, Santa Ana district will be known as No. 2, the Orange district as No. 3, Anaheim as No. 4, and Fullerton as No. 5. In the drive for funds to cover 1922, budget quotas will be assigned to each district and executive chairmen will be placed in charge of each district. The quotas for the respective districts will be based largely upon the bank clearings in the communities solicited. It is hoped that the necessary funds can be raised in record time and that the efforts of the workers can then be centered upon securing additions to the Boy Scout organization. Gilbert said it was the belief of the committeemen that the membership can be brought up to 1000 during 1922. The membership at present is between 300 and 400. "The Boy Scout movement is now regarded by prominent citizens as one of the most important factors in civic life," said Gilbert, "and some of the best people in our country are actively identified with the movement." Other committeemen who will Yorba News YORBA, Jan. 5.—(Spi.) Never before in local history has there been such a 'merry', Merry Xmas, nor such a 'happy', Happy New Year nor have the holidays been so truly Holy Days. For three weeks, and more, every day has been of a happy anticipatory expectation: and the realization? It was to the mark and over! Like Pollyanna would have said we are so glad it rained so much, and no more, for then we would all have drowned and then we would never have found out how glad we were, we were not drowned! You see, three weeks ago, Rev. Father Guadalupe del Rio Q. F. M.; of San Luis Rey Mission came to our little burg for his regular service visit but it started to rain and he has had to remain in our midst so we had services not only Xmas but New Year's as well. These being such essentially religious holidays, it seemed the correct thing that even nature should help us to have a religious background—although very much to the fore here—to our celebrations we were given three masses, on Christmas; the first was at a very early hour of the morning, the next at 8 a.m. and the last at 9:30 a.m. At the early mass, the choir rendered the difficult and celebrated Rosewigs' Mass in G. The church was beautifully decorated and was ablaze with light; a crib with a wax figure of the infant Jesus, loaned by Mrs. A.D. Velasco for the occasion, had been placed at the altar near the communion railing and likewise decoration. After the last mass, as the people started for their machines, preparatory to their going home they found that the rain, which had been unceasingly falling, had made a regular quigmire of the ground out around the church where the machines were parked and which, hence, were all stalled; all efforts, with boards grass, sacks, etc., to extricate the autos were unavailing until Mr. Eugene Boisserance, was himself first helped out with his machine when he in turn pulled the others out from their funny (?) predicament. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Velasco had a family reunion as their celebration: Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Woods) and New Year's o'Doris, his two-been on a hot noses and ot and that the efforts of the workers can then be centered upon securing additions to the Boy Scout organization. Gilbert said it was the belief of the committee that the membership can be brought up to 1000 during 1922. The membership at present is between 300 and 400. "The Boy Scout movement is now regarded by prominent citizens as one of the most important factors in civic life," said Gilbert, "and some of the best people in our country are actively identified with the movement. Other committeemen who will serve with Gilbert in the preliminary plans for the forthcoming drive are A. B. McCord, Anaheim; S. W. Smith, Fullerton; William O. Hart, Orange; and Elmer Jahrau, Laguna Beach. ORCHARD WORK NOW IS WELL ADVANCED Orchard work thrust out the state is well advanced, says the government monthly crop report for California, and winter pruning and spraying, with -what plowing remains to be done on tracts other than those under irrigation, will proceed rapidly. In northern and central California more than half of the intended plantings of wheat and barley were completed by Dec. 31. The rains have brot good pasturage all over the state. HUNT COKE SUBSTITUTE French engineers are trying to find a substitute for coke for use in the metallurgical industries, which are dependent upon imported supplies. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Velasco had a family reunion as their celebration: Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Woods) and Thomas Monroe, Jr., son-in-law, daughter, and grandson, respectively, also J. F. Velasco, Jr., and Victor Velasco came down from Los Angeles to be with "Dad" and "Mother," the other two sons here Vincent and Louis A. also assisting their parents in entertaining a numerous coterie of friends that kindly dropped in to exchange gifts as well as good wishes. Open house for friends was the rule at this house, like at other California homes in Yorba during the holidays (Yes and always.). Mr. and Mrs. August Bieger, and their daughters Lucy and Elsa had a Xmas tree exquisitely decorated, Kris Kringle, of course having a very conspicuous place. This kindly family also entertained several groups of friends on different occasions, an impromptu concert being one of many enjoyable incidents at this home. Mrs. Erolinda C. Yorba, at her home across the river, and Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Yorba, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Yorba, Mrs. F. Y. Domínguez, of Esperanza, all had their families together to tease and make them happy. Boissérancé held their reunion on WHAT WILL STUDEBaker DO FOR 1922? 1922? Built-in Features These features are most convenient and should be investigated when designing your new home. Santa Clause and Dr. Stork must have stopped somewhere to swap tales and they swapped packages an well for a brand new daughter was left at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vicente Gonzales, the same day that Mr. G went to Anaheim to let Santa know how the Gonzales home could be reached. So that we should realize that "In the midst of Life we are in death," and that its the juxtaposition of the sad and the glad that makes life interesting, there were three funerals at the Yorba cemetery within the last two weeks; two were of children from some of the neighboring towns and the third of Don Tomas Moreno an old timer of this section, aged 92 years. The Don who was born in Mexico, came to California when 30 years old, and here, by marriage became related to many prominent California families of that period. Several children of two marriages survive him, with one of them, Mrs. Piedad M. de Alvarez, having been where he made his home at the last Requiem mass celebrated for the deceased on Tuesday. The Yorba school trustees were given the surprise of their career when the erstwhile and heretofore Miss Juanita Wright, the primary grades teacher informed them that the name that had been usually written on her salary warrant was no good any longer as she had decided to change it to that of "Mrs. Warren C. Fletcher," "Going to be married," queried one. "No, am already married," she said. "Oh, then Xmas"—"No"——"I mean New Years."——"No, was married a year ago, last Sept. !!!"
