ONLY WAY TO PEACE IS TO DEMAND IT By the Right Honorable Lord Riddell, Representative of the Newspaper Proprietors' Assn. of London, and Press Liaison Officer of the British Delegation to the Conference on Limitation of Armament. (Copyright 1921 by the Federal Council of Churches) WASHINGTON, Dec. 20.—There is only one way to stop war—the peoples of the world must determine that they will have peace. If they do, we won't have any more wars; unless they do, we will not be able to prevent war. It is very foolish to think you are going to change the world all at once. One thing to do is to create the spirit of peace among the coming generations. Teach the children so that when they grow up they will not want war. The trouble with peace movements in the past and the many attempts to put a stop to wars has been that they have started at the wrong place. They have sarted with statesmen and governments. It has always been assumed that when resolutions have been passed the matter was settled. Since coming to America I have been particularly impressed and deeply interested in the work of the churches in behalf of peace. Their campaign of educational publicity thru the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America has been one of the most effective pieces of work in behalf of peace that I have seen. Thru the newspapers it has had wide influence and has meant much to the Conference on Limitation of Armament. In their nation-wide publicity and educational work they have placed the responsibility for the success of the Conference on Limitation of Armament on the individual. It has made each man and woman feel that he or she must act, must work for peace. The advertisement (referring to the "Concrete Suggestions" printed on the back page of the Warless World pamphlets of the Federal Council of Churches and used in many HINTS FOR MILADY'S TOILET FROM Right, gorgeous coat of grey astrakhen, Russian fur signer of this creation, we imagine, got his inspiration least, from the little Isle of Hawaii. This is the kind of publicity that counts and will get results. The churches should continue this work and other interested organizations should adopt this plan of placing the responsibility on the individual. As I said before, when the individual men and women want peace we shall have it, and not before. The churches of America have shown the way. All work was at a stand still in the farming line, but now new activity will burst forth. The farmers are still very much up in the air as to what crops to plant. The sugar beet industry is surely to the bad. Most of the farmers are trying to get away from beet planting. Much of the land-in south and west of Cypress especially about Los Alamitos is more suited to beet culture than anything else. The dairymen are having their troubles also the poultrymen. All in all the farmers are not care free and the rain was a much needed factor in lending hope and incentive to their endeavors. The oil developing excitement has died out considerable.
