CHILDREN'S NITE AT YEOMAN LODGE HAPPY AFFAIR
DESPITE the inclement weather, a large crowd turned out to attend the Xmas program for the children that was given by the Yeoman in their rooms last evening. A brilliantly lighted Xmas tree stood erect in one corner of the room, and with its presents and trimmings looked most attractive. A clever program was arranged by the committee in charge, among the numbers being recitations by Sarah Mitchell and Evelyn Magathan. Two songs were given by Miss Fowler and Thelma Scanchez, they singing "Peggy O'Neal" and "Wyoming Lullaby." A clever little dialogue was presented by four of the young misses, they being Harriett Austin in the role of "Cinderella," Luelle Hatfield, as "Red Riding Hood," Thelma Sanchez, as "Sleeping Beauty," and Norma Armbrust as "Gold Spinner." Mrs. Wm. J. Llewellyn also gave several readings.
After the program the time was devoted in giving all the pleasure and fun to the kiddies. A feature of the evening was the presentation of a beautiful chair to Mr. Joe Maddock in appreciation of his services for the Women's drill team as captain. Mr. Daniels was presented the "crazy quilt" as a reminder of the evening.
At the close of the entertainment, the children marched up to the tree and were given nuts, candy and apples. The older folks were also presented with some of the season's fruits and goodies.
This is the first time that the Yeomen have enjoyed a like celebration and last night's affair was such
C.E. MAKES CANDY FOR SAN QUENTIN CHRISTMAS CHEER
THE party given last evening by the Christian Endeavor society of the Christian church was a great success, and despite the rainy weather, a large attendance of happy young people marked the occasion. Sheld at the pretty home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dickenson, whose hospitality is well known and always of the highest degree, no pains had been spared to make it a notable event. Christmas decorations of red and green, with a huge Christmas tree, hung with lights and tinsel lent an air of gaiety, and the lively games added merriment. Charades was especially interesting and the content for guessing the answers was keen.
The guests repaired to the kitchen after a time, where pounds and pounds of candy were made to be sent to San Quentin as a Christmas remembrance to those confined within the walls of the prison.
Home made candy and other refreshments were served at a late hour, and the treats cut from the Christmas tree were distributed. The affair was declared to be one of the nicest of the entire season.

ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT
A delightful surprise that came to Anaheim friends was the announcement of the engagement of Miss Frieda Heineman of this city to Mr. Douglas McFhee. The announcement was made at an informal party of sorority girls at Redlands on a recent evening when they were entertaining their young man friends. Miss Heineman is a well-known young Anaheim girl and a graduate of the class of '20 A. U. H. S. and entered Redlands University last fall. The announcement is received with favor among the local set.

BEAUTIFUL PLAY AT ST. CATHERINE'S XMAS PROGRAM
ST. CATHERINE'S school gave an excellent Christmas program yesterday, when the pupils rendered "The Three Holy Kings." The program opened with a song, "Christmas," by the fourth and fifth grades, after which Wendel Mercer and Joseph Curran sang a duet. The second graders gave "Christmas In Mother Goose Land," and the third grade a song, "Santa Claus."
This lead to the play in four acts: the story which follows:
Act 1—Jerusalem—The city date; sunrise. Scene 1—Toll collector sees caravan approaching; leaves to inform Herod. Scene 2—Enter three kings; Scene 3—Enter Sadue, a Saduee; kings ask where new born king is to be found; Sadue knows nothing of him. Phares enter in sackcloth; expects only a worldly Messiah, who will free Jews from Roman power; rejoices but nows nothing of his birthplace; Faram, a citizen, enters, and tells kings that Jews will never acknowledge a poor Messiah; Phares warns king against Herod; crowd enters; Phares tells of one-time glory of Jews, their downfall and yearning for Messiah to free them from power of Romans.
BETWEEN ACTS
Piano Solo—Mario Mora.
Act 2—Throne room in Herod's palace; Lucifer enters; speaks of war with Messiah; leaves; Herod-enters; tells of love for power; sends for high priest; high priest enters; tells where Jesus is born.
BETWEEN ACTS
"Darning the Christmas Stockings" recitation.
Act 3—Sunset; road half way to Betlehem; the Kings pass on their way to Bethlehem; Herod disguised as citizen enters; Cyrinus, his attendant, finds him on ground and leaves him; Herod, rising, discovers he is stricken with dreadful malady; Satan waits his death.
Shepherd and son enter; sit on bench and speak of Jesus; leave to visit crib.
BETWEEN ACTS
"Tranesmus," by Shepherd and Orange County Choral Union to Sing "Penzance"
LOOKING toward further activity after the holidays, the Orange County Choral Union, of which several young ladies of Anaheim are members, is making plans for the rendition of "Pirates of Penzae," another Gilbert & Sullivan comic opera. Rehearsals have been arranged for Wednesday evenings instead of Monday, and although the present holiday season has somewhat interfered, the interest of both members of the union and the public are deep.
Encouraged with the success of "The Mikado," director Ellis Rhodes with his corps of assistants, Robert Brown, president; Earl Fraser, Raymond Miles, Harry Warne, Fred Wilde, Miss Cornell, Miss Meade, Miss Cartwright, and others, selected "Penzance," from a large list submitted, realizing the ability of the members to successfully produce some thing more elaborate than the first offering. A number of applications for membership have been received to fill the ten vacancies in the union and tryouts will be given by Mr. Rhodea.
Tentative plans for presenting "The Mikado," are under way in Redlands, where Mr. Rhodes is professor of music in the University, and Anaheim and Fullerton, where the opera will be given under the auspices of local organizations.
The tragic death last week of Miss Alice Clausen, of Santa Ana, died as the result of burns received when her clothing caught fire from an open gas heater, brought sadness to every member of the union, for both as a member of the board of directors and for her lovable disposition, she was a favorite in the organization.
Unemployment is one of the greatest factors in bringing about diseases of the mind.

PIANO PUPILS GIVE RECITAL
The piano pupils of Mrs. Ruth Seltz gave a most creditable program last evening in Guild hall, where the interested parents and friends gathered to enjoy the numbers and note the progress of the girls and boys.

Taking part in the recital, which was constituted of solo numbers exclusively were the following pupils of Mrs. Seltz: Lucille Hatfield, Guy Duckworth, Dale and Jack Hensley, Beatrice and Robert Ambsry, Leason Pomeroy, Jack Hartfield, Nellis Sackett, Helen and Hazel Manter, Elsa Belger, Katherine Adams, Norma Brastad, Frances Reed, Eleanor Longworth, Mary Easton, Marion Utter, Lucile Vogle and Johanna Lemke.
