DAILY GREETINGS TO OUR READERS
Tis sweet to remember, I would not forego
The charm which the past o'er the present can throw,
For all the gay visions that fancy can weave.
In her web of illusions that shines to deceive. —W. C. Clark.
But the best gift of all is Christmas good will.
Babe Ruth finishes barnstorming to be a costly luxury.
President Harding is planning to come to California and other coast states early next summer, on his way to Alaska. As President and as man, he will be welcomed hospitably to this state.
Do not be influenced unduly by pessimistic and captiously critical reports about the work—or the alleged work—of the Arms Conference. Groundless or misleading reports are being circulated. Give no credence to rumors of discord and failure unless they be substantiated directly and officially by those high in authority.
Those who sneer at and speak, disparagingly of the police forces are sowing dangerous seeds among the young. To defy and attack murderously police officers, as was done in Los Angeles by young bandits, is a logical outwrowth of this bad practice. The police do not deserve the obloquy that is heaped upon them by ever tain elements in every community.
MURDERS BY BANDITS STIR LOS ANGELES
Two policemen shot down in cold blood by desperadoes in Los Angeles—this was the sacrifice required, seemingly to arouse the city council; there to take action looking to increasing the personnel of the police department. The chief of police and many public-spirited citizens of Los Angeles have been urging the imperative need of a more numerous force to cope with the outbreaking criminality that has prevailed there. Human life is cheap in that city since this reign of criminal terror set in. Burglaries, footpads pickpockets and every type of cunning and desperate outlaw has been and is operating in Los Angeles. There is but one sure way to rid the city of this menacing condition—that is, to come heroically to the support of the police department; give the department all the men that reasonably could be asked, and then require the people to clean up the city and do it swiftly. It can be done. Other cities have done and are doing it.
The menace concerns, not Los Angeles and its residents alone, but every city and town in the Southland. For these outlaws sneak out of the greater city, using it as their headquarters and hiding place, and commit depredations in neighboring cities and towns. Furthermore, it is of concern to residents of this and other nearby cities, because they fear to be in Los Angeles, day or night dreading that they may become victims of hold-ups or become enmeshed in some tragedy of the street when desperadoes begin shooting.

'FRUSTRATING GRACE OF GOD' IS TOPIC
Dr. Geissinger spoke at the White Temple yesterday morning upon "Frustrating the Grace of God." Call 2:21.
John summed up the case for the Jew by saying: "He (Christ) came unto his own and his own received him not." That is the Jew frustrated God's grace. It has been the game for many of us Gentiles. After 1900 years millions have not yet accepted of the divine grave and of millions it may be said: They frustrate the grave of God.
This is a very difficult subject to bring fully and clearly before our minds. I suggest some simple illustrations.
As we read the gospel records and see Pilate, Felix Festus, Agrippa the lawyer, simply asking questions and others of this hard, worthy type, all very real persons, walking out from Christ's presence unsurrendered to Christ we can see that they have defeated the will of God in their lives. God sent the greatest preacher of the age, the greatest preacher of the ages, to proclaim his grace to Agrippa and Agrippa went out with a sneer upon his lips.

NEGRO COLLEGE GETS CARNEGIE BENEFIT
The first college for negroes to be admitted to the benefits of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement ment of Teaching is Fisk University at Nashville, Tenn. It was voted in by the board of trustees of the foundation at their annual meeting held recently in New York. The election carries with it an appropriation of $25000 to be used for teachers' pensions.
Fisk University was founded in 1866. It has 770 students and sixty on its teaching and administrative staffs. In six years its student body grew from 160 to 422. The institution is well known throughout the country by the concerts and records of the Fisk Jubilee singers.
One of the problems facing Fisk University is its increased costs of operation which today are three times what they were six years ago.
