A. U. H. STUDENTS
PLAN BIG EVENT
FOR NEXT WEEK
What promises to be one of the biggest events in the Anaheim Union high school will be given Friday afternoon and evening, Dec. 16, when a Christmas bazaar and program of music and playlets will be given.
The art department is working industriously to prepare dainty little gifts and pretty cards for holiday remembrances. Batik work, hot dish mats and things ornamental as well as practical are being fashioned. The botany and biology classes will have a flower shop where potted plants, corsage bouquets and other floral designs may be found. The clerks will dress to represent the flowers they sell.
The sewing department is making a wide assortment of practical gifts from handkerchiefs to aprons, which will be in a daintily trimmed booth, and the "inner man" is not to be overlooked, for the cooking girls and boys are planning many of their favorite dishes, as well as canned foods and spreads. The chemistry department will operate the soda fountains and the combination of fruits and erops will be served to the thirsty public.
The goddess Ceres, will be present in spirit, if not in reality, the classical students having arranged a beautifully decorated booth where candies made from the many grains, will be offered for sale. That the bazaar will show an unusual share of "hot stuff" is gleaned from the Spanish class, which promises to have a choice assortment of tamales, frijoles, dulces
AUXILIARY AND LEGION JOIN IN HAPPY EVENING
The Auxiliary and the American Legion held a delightful social gathering last evening. At the conclusion of the business meeting of the ladies, they went to the Legion rooms, where a short business meeting had been held, and joined in hearing the excellent program which contained a reading by Miss Coons; a Spanish dance La Verna Dugas, the little dancer who won the hearts of all "Dolly Dimples"; a reading by Mrs. Arthur Cohen and an unlimited amount of jazz music played by Mr. Briscoe.
Dancing and singing filled the time until call for refreshments, which included pumpkin pie, doughnuts and coffee. A merry time followed when Mr. De Mortz assumed the duties of auctioneer and invigiled the "sporting blood" of the Legion members to the surface, selling delicious pumpkin pies, one to Mr. Luce at the fairly reasonable price of $5.00, considering the quality of the pie; two dozen doughnuts purchased by Mr. Dooley for only $4.00, while Mr. Adams was able to buy another of the great American interior decorative features, pumpkin pie, for $2.00. How he did it is not yet discovered.
A big crowd was present and the enjoyment of the occasion was of the fullest measure.

The goddess Ceres, will be present in spirit, if not in reality, the classical students having arranged a beautifully decorated booth where candies made from the many grains, will be offered for sale. That the bazaar will show an unusual share of "hot stuff" is gleaned from the Spanish class, which promises to have a choice assortment of tamales, frijoles, dulces and chocolate. The waitresses will attractively dressed in Spanish costume and Spanish dancers and singers will afford amusement for their patrons.
The mathematic divisions will operate games of skill, the most skilful shot being awarded a worth-white prize. The dramatic section has worked up some good vaudeville, one program for the hour of 3:30, the other for the evening at $:30.
A small admission charge will be made into the bazaar which will include all the side attractions.
The students are giving all spare energy from their work to make the bazaar a success and there is no question but of its success.

HI-Y CLUB EATS CHICKEN
Last night the fellows of the Anaheim Hi-Y Club met at the home of their president, Clifford Elliott, on East Center-st. Mrs. Elliott had prepared a fine chicken dinner, which was greatly enjoyed by all present. Following the dinner, the regular business of the club was taken up. Marlowe Janse gave a brief report of the Older Boys' conference held at Santa Barbara; and Dana Newkirk gave a report of the County Hi-Y conference held last Saturday and Sunday at Orange. Following these two reports, Secretary Chessum gave a short talk on the purpose and scope of the Hi-Y club, and outlined a few activities for the coming holidays, one of which will be a trip to Fort McArthur and a visit aboard the battle ships. There were twenty members present and all had a very enjoyable and interesting time.
CHICKEN DINNER FOR Hi-Y'S
The Hi-Y boys had a hi-grade time last evening when they were guests of Clifford and Frances Elliott at a chicken dinner, served by Mrs. W. J. Elliott, assisted by her daughter, Miss Viola, Mr. Elliott's sister, Mrs. Rees, and Mrs. Norbert Anderson.
Home grown chicken served as the most alluring feature of the meal, and the way those boys wrapped their systems around the dinner would make any cook green with envy of Mrs. Elliott and her assistants. When the boys had mown a broad swath across the table from end to end and side to side, they repaired to the living room where a business meeting was held, although it is rumored the very first matter taken up was letting out belts about four notches. But it was a great feed as the following named, who were there, will attest: Dana Newkirk, Milo Janse, Clinton Briggs, Arthur Mann, Fred Winters, Ensley Beck, Henry Hodges, Nick Hile, John Feethan, Howard Gregg, Donald Feinman, Charles Schutz, Lawrence Mills, Leslie Forsythe, Marvin Ross, Wayne Godale, Frances and Clifford Elliott, and Y. M. C. A. county secretary, George C. Chessum and secretary of northern Orange county, Archie Raitt.
MISS GENTLE PLEASES AUDIENCE
Those from Anaheim attending program given last evening by Alice Gentle, dramatic soprano, der the auspices of the Santa Musical Association, in the audition of the Santa Ana high school were supremely delighted with wonderful singing. Miss Gentle most gracious, giving several e-mail numbers in response to insistent praise. She was accompanied by Santa Ana by Lester Behymer., of Philharmonic Auditorium, Los Angeles, who introduced her to her ence in informal manner, telling w pride of her being strictly an American production, born, educated trained absolutely in America, concluded his remarks with the surance that "she is awful easy look at." which is true.
Miss Gentle, who is soloist with Philharmonic orchestra, has a deed charm of manner as well as a vase of extended range, which is strong colorful and alluring. She was companied by Frank Moss, of Los Angeles, at the piano, in all her numbers, consisting of five groups...

After dinner, which was served at one o'clock, the party enjoyed music and other pleasures. Composing the company were Mr. May's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. May, his sister, Miss Ethlyn May., Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Huffman, parents of Mrs. May, all of Santa Ana; Mrs. Jordon, their house guest, who resides in Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Elliott, of Whittier.
