SPARKES & DARNLEY TAKE OVER ARENA ST. JOSEPH DEFEATS CENTRAL BY 9 TO 6 Sparks & Darnley have taken over the American Legion's Arena which is located on N. Los Angeles-st and the State Highway. In the future, all athletic entertainments formerly held out Spark's Fistic Farm will now take place at the new home of the Anaheim Athletic club working in conjunction with the American Legion, Anaheim Post No. 72. The new management proposes to take care of the sport loving public of Anaheim and Orange-so in a high class manner. The very best talent that can be secured and that is desirable, will be procured. The management has in mind some classy boxing and wrestling shows for the winter season. It is also proposed to fit the place up in first class style. A gymnasium is to be fitted up with plenty of training apparatus. Shower baths as well as dressing rooms and lockers will also be a big feature. Billy Darnley, who has had considerable experience in physical culture work, training and conditioning will handle that end of the work. It is intended as well to secure the services of a first class rubber. It is hoped, as the club progresses, to add other features that in time will make of it an Athletic club that Anaheim can well be proud of. The club has been reorganized with Albert Sparks as president; Will C. (Billy) Darnley, vice president and athletic manager and Frank Tausch, secretary-treasurer. A big membership drive will be started shortly when it is expected to start the club off on its right foot. The new location should prove to be ideal atho, no doubt, there will be many who will regret the passing of the old Fistic Farm for the many stirring entertainments it has offered local fans. As was the custom in the past, Friday night will still be boxing nite. On account of just taking the place over and so many improvements to be installed, it has been decided to call the machine one of Louis Chevrolet's Frontnaces which is owned by Mrs. Omar Toft who was killed at Phoenix last Sunday. In a ball game yesterday afternoon at Fremont school, St. Joseph's Catholic school defeated Central school by a score of 9 to 6. Peter Lehr was captain of the St. Joseph's school team, and Garrett captain of the Central school team. St. Joseph's line-up was as follows: Timothy Wallace, catcher; Peter Lehr, pitcher; Adam Lehr, first baseman; Augustine Lanair, second baseman; Baymund Dykema, third baseman; Allen Woods short stop between the second and third bases; Herman Stoffle short stop between the first and second bases; Rollin Petitzer, left field; Herbert Kluthe right field; Howard Hinman, center field. WILD WILBUR WILL RACE TURKEY DAY LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16.—"Wild Wilbur" D'Alene, greatest fence-vaulting motor race of all times, is to pilot a car in the Thanksgiving Day event at Beverly. "Wild Wilbur" won his spurn in Los Angeles when he broke all quadruple somersault records with a racing car at the old Ascot speedway three years ago during a race between Cooper-Pullen and himself. Strangely enough D'Alene was then driving the Omar Special owned by Omar Toft who was killed at Phoenix last Sunday. For the Beverly race on Turkey Day, Wilbur will pilot a genuine "Hoo-do" car, the identical machine in which Alton Soules and his mechanician were killed at Fresno a few weeks ago, and the machine which catapulted the lamented Gaston Chevrolet to death at Beverly last Thanksgiving Day. A few months before his death Chevrolet had won with the car the 509-mile Indianapolis Speedway event. The machine is one of Louis Chevrolet's Frontnaces which is owned by Mrs. Omar Toft who was killed at Fresno last Thanksgiving Day. has been reorganized with Albert Sparks as president; Will C. (Billy) Darnley, vice president and athletic manager; Frank Tausch, secretary-treasurer. A big membership drive will be started shortly when it is expected to start the club off on its right foot. The new location should prove to be ideal, no doubt, there will be many who will regret the passing of the old Fistic Farm for the many stirring entertainments it has afforded local fans. As was the custom in the past, Friday night will still be boxing nite. On account of just taking the place over and so many improvements to be installed, it has been decided to call this week's show off and open the place next Tuesday with the long-awaited and expected Bull Montana-Sparks wrestling match. On the following Friday, a bang-up boxing card will be given on the program that will make them all sit up and take notice. Another feature that will undoubtedly meet with the approval of all will be the addition of a roof to the arena. Workmen will be busily engaged for the next few days making the necessary improvements and it is expected to open up on time the following Tuesday. SPARKES WRESTLES MONTANA TUESDAY Al Sparkes, who wrestles "Bool" Montana here at the Anaheim Athletic clubs new home next Tuesday evening at their opening show, is down to the hard grind of training. The match is to be to a finish, the best two out of three falls. Also, both men have posted side bets of $250.00 apiece which goes to the winner. Al is taking no chances of being on the losing end, let alone making abum show, and every day finds him working out in true style. He does his road work in the wee morning hours and in the afternoon there is plenty of gym stuff to do. Athletic Manager Billy Darnley has sent-out an S.O.S. call for training partners for his husky man and any and all near wrestlers who would like a good workout are welcome to come out to the training quarters which he is asking temporarily out at his ranch, formerly his fictive farm. 1922 TEAM GETS PRACTICE The next year's first football team of the Fullerton high school went to Whittier tonight for a scrimmage. There is a rumor afloat that Purdue has received walking papers from the Big Ten conference and that Notre Dame will be invited to fill the place. ORANGE & ANAHEIM WILL MEET NOV. 22 The Orange-Anaheim football game which will decide third place in the Orange league, will be played Tuesday, Nov. 22. The game was scheduled for tomorrow, but owing to the condition of the Anaheim team, the game was postponed. Several of the Anaheim regulars were injured in Saturday's game with Fullerton and will not be in condition before next week. Orange and Anaheim recently played a 14-14 tie so a second game was scheduled to decide their position in the league. SPORT CHATTER Reports from Frisco the Calif., Winter league would discontinue after this season were denied today by officials of the Vernon and Mission clubs who said directors already had plans underway for next season. Maryland Jockey club at Baltimore yesterday cancelled the looker's license of C.H. Schilling in Maryland at his request. He desires to come to Calif., as a trainer. Cort Majors and Bob Cravens, football stars of California and Stanford last season, will act as linesmen at the annual battle Saturday. Los Angeles military academy football team suffered a 21-0 defeat by Loyola college yesterday. WEEK END USED CAR SA WEEK END USED CAR SALE AT MACK'S 306 N. NO FORMAL “BIDS” FOR NEW YEAR GAME PASADENA, Nov. 16—Because of reports and rumors which have been considerably exploited, President J. J. Mitchell of the Tournament of Roses calls attention to the fact that no formal invitation to 4 teams to play in the New Year’s Day football classic—the "East and West" contest—has yet been extended. While Saturday’s games clarified the eastern football atmosphere considerably it is not probable that any Invitation will be extended until after the games of Saturday, Nov. 19, are over. The games of next Saturday really mark the closing of the eastern football season for but few of the larger teams play Thanksgiving games any more. However, in football there is likely to be a complete upset at any time so that the Tournament of Roses Assn.’s football committee, of which W. F. Croler is chairman, has long adopted the policy of not extending an invitation until the season is practically closed and complete facts are known. The Yale Alumni of Southern California has dispatched a telegram to Yale urging the team to accept an invitation to Pasadena in case one is offered. Undoubtedly Yale is one of the teams being considered for its showing this season has been one of the best ever made by a Yale team. Iowa has also come thru the season so far with flying colors and, aside from its defeat by Oberlin, which is not in the "Big Ten" conference, Ohio State which played at Pasadena last New Year’s Day, has a clean record. FOR SALE—Real Estate FOR SALE 20 acres (1744 trees) which unquestionably stands unchallenged as the best orange grove in this section. A grove with a record, a grove with a future. There is not one weak feature attached to this offering. Upon inspection one becomes impressed with the size of the trees, their vigor, health and thrifty condition. The soil is on the finest, setting indicates that it will be one of the heaviest producing 20 acres in Orange-co. This is a grove which has received not only the best of care, but all work has been done by the owners themselves. Its location is ideal, situated in city limits, with frontage on 3 streets. The only reason this splendid grove is due to one of the owners being desirous of returning east. It is offered for sale at a ridiculously low figure, and we are prepared to produce figures which will show an income of 22 per cent. This is your one big opportunity to purchase a grove which is now increasing in value. Don't wait until the fruits color up. Don't wait until the owners change their minds but buy now. 5 acres of 5-year-old Valencias that would do your heart good to see. The trees have an exceptionally heavy setting for next year, with every indication of sizing up well. Soil conditions fine. This grove is all piped. There is a nice hill, all modern, with garage, which makes this proposition exceptionally attractive. We doubt there is another 5 acres which can compare with this. Anyone purchasing this beautiful grove will feel greatly satisfied especially when the fruit colors up. Better look into this before it is too late. 10 acres 8-year-old Valencias' settings and soil A-1. Grove all piped. This grove can be purchased at your own figure. 5 acres 2-year-old Valencias all piped soil exceptionally good. Priced at $1,600 per acre.
