This is the information contained in The Bean-Bag, a publication devoted to the industry. The publication recapitulates facts and figures on production and values of the past few years and dealing particularly with the 1920 crop. Continuing, the publication says: "California's bean crop is nearly equal in value to 50 per cent of the total bean crop for the United States. 'In 1917, California's peak year, the crop value was $49,817,000 compared to $104,350,000 for the United States. California as the greatest bean-producing state is followed in order by Michigan, New York, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. 'During the world war the bean producers responded to the nation's and world's need of greater quantities of nourishing food. As a result California and the United States doubled the production of beans. However this great increase in acreage and production meant that land was put under cultivation and farms started at costs much higher" SPARTAN GROCERS 101 Stores 138 E. Center G. O. PAYNE, Prop.
