Delegates To the Anaheim Public: It has been brot forcibly to my attention during the past few days that the 82nd annual convention of the So. Calif. Sunday School Assn., to be held at the White Temple here, next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8, 9, and 10, will mean much to the Anaheim district and Orange-co generally. The committee engaged in perfecting plans for this great meeting of Sunday school workers, report that they are short rooms and breakfast accommodation for 100 couples. Also, that 100 more autos must be loaned with drivers, to be at the White Temple at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, and to be in use to 4:30 that afternoon, in connection with the great auto parade of the delegates thru Orange-co. Anaheim's reputation for hospitality, long successfully maintained, is at stake unless we accomplish the desires of the committees, now in the field, in regard to beds, meals and autos, above set forth. May I ask that all who will furnish these accommodations, ring up the C. of C., telephone 665, at once, stating full details in each case. BIRTHDAY SURPRISE GIVEN FOR SISTER GARDEN GROVE, Nov. 4.—The home of Mr. and Mrs. George Rolfe in Garden Grove was the scene of a jolly birthday surprise party Monday evening in honor of Mrs. Rolfe's sister, Mrs. Julia A. Garrison, of Santa Ana. So cleverly had the affair been managed that Mrs. Garrison was taken completely by surprise as the guests, in a body, came marching in bearing their tokens of remembrance and good will in the ship of dainty gifts, cards and refreshments. A pleasant social hour was spent in conversation, when the larger table was cleared and delicious refreshments served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cleveland, Mesdames Watson, Crane, Hendricks, Wells, Lulu Beardsley Geo. Beardsley, Reed, Webber, Garriam, Steele, Mr. and Mrs. Rolfe. EXPECT U. P. OFFICIAL TO INVESTIGATE SPUR That an official of the Union Pacific railway will be in Garden Grove within the month to make an investigation to determine the feasibility of building a spur track to that municipality and to sound sentiment, was the prediction made today by Dr. C. C. Violett, president of the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce. "My opinion is that little will develop for several weeks, but I believe that the railroad will send some high official here within a month to look over the ground for the proposed spur and to discuss with ranchers and business men the advisability of constructing the branch line. A great deal of preliminary work is necessary and before the railroad definitely commits itself to some policy the advantages and disadvantages of the plan will probably be discussed between officials of the road and Garden Grove residents representing the opposing factions, ranchers and business men." Stroup-Barnes Furniture Co. MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION Anaheim, Calif., Nov. 4, 1921 The So. Calif. Sunday School Association is to hold its 82nd annual convention in Anaheim Nov. 8, 9, 10. It is very fitting that we should bid these visitors welcome, and that we should extend to them the freedom and hospitality of our city. We are fortunate to have in our midst these devoted workers repristening so largely the towns and cities of So. Calif., and these national experts and instructors in child welfare and religious training. As the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 10, is to be devoted to a demonstration and parade by the visiting delegates and local workers, assisted by the Anaheim, C. of C., I urge our citizens to join this demonstration, and ask the merchants and business men as far as possible to close their stores and offices from 9 to 4 o'clock of that day and make of this parade a demonstration fitting the importance of the occasion and the enterprise of our progressive city. Many of these will be able to drive back and forth from their homes to the daily sessions, but about 600 must be provided with lodgings here for at least two nights. Dorecher, of the German Lutheran church. A proclamation calling upon all business houses to close their doors from 2 till 4 'clock on November 10, the final conference day, has been issued by Mayor William Stark. Public schools in Anaheim will be dismissed to enable the school children to participate in the parade. Salient features of the three days of the conference will be as follows: "Rights of the Child," pageant on Tuesday, Nov. 8; house-to-house canvass of Anaheim and Fullerton on Nov. 2; county automobile parade of Sunday school children and delegates on Nov. 10. Convention mornings will be devoted to conferences at the White Temple while the afternoons will be given over to departmental meetings. A cast of 100 has been assembled to present "Rights of the Child" on Tuesday evening. The pageant, allegorical in nature, will show the enemies undermining the home life of America and the influences gathered to combat them. The canvass of Anaheim and Fullerton on the following day will be directed by Dr. J. Shrive Durham, superintendent of the home visitation department of the International Sunday School association, who recently arrived from Chicago to attend the convention. The canvass will determine the number of church-goers and their sects. Fully 2000 automobiles will take part in the huge parade on Thursday afternoon. Anaheim will furnish 100 machines, and Santa Ana, Orange, Fullerton and neighboring towns will supply floats. All churches will be represented in the parade. High school students of each community will march in a body and other sections will represent communities, sectarian Sunday schools, Boy Scouts and the Y. M. C. A. The parade will leave the White Temple Methodist church at 2 o'clock Thursday. The route prescribed is through Anaheim to Garden Grove, from there to Santa Ana, thence to Tuxtin, Olive, Fullerton and back to Anaheim. GEISSINGER POINTS OUT HIGH SPOTS IN CAL. S. S. PROGRAM I thank you for the opportunity that you give me to just a word to the people of Anaheim concerning the coming convention of the So.Cal. Sunday School Ass'n., which will meet in the White Temple, Nov. 8, 9, and 10. This gathering will bring a large number of visitors of a representative type to our city. It is expected that there will be at least 1500 visitors here each of the days named. As chairman of the General Convention Committee, I wish officially to express my appreciation of the cooperation we have had, from the churches of Anaheim and the citizens generally. The City Trustees joined with us in inviting the Convention to Anaheim and the mayor of the city has issued a proclamation asking the business houses to close from 2 to 4 the afternoon of the 10th, time of the great parade. This will greatly help to give inspiration to all. We also appreciate the gift of the city fathers and their good-will. We are also deeply grateful to the Grammar and High School boards for closing the school the afternoon of the 10th. The Chamber of Commerce, which also joined with us in giving the invitation to the S. S. Ass'n, to hold its convention here, has helped us in many ways besides sending out effective publicity to the churches and papers of the state. We appreciate the hospitality and goodwill of the citizens who have opened their homes to the incoming guests and this has been done by the people of all religious faiths and no profession. It is a big undertaking to try to entertain so large a company as will be here next week, but we hope to do it in such a way that they will remember Anaheim favorably and so that some of them will want to make their homes here. A fine program has been arranged for the Convention. We can say this as this has been the work of the State Association. Many of the finest speakers of the state will speak from the convention platform and every one of them will be worth hearing. The women of the churches will serve two meals each of first two days and the noon meal last day, providing for 500 at each time. This with what the restaurants can serve will take care of the situation in this particular. It is requested that the Anaheim friends give the church dining room over to use of our visiting friends for these days. May I make this one request That every loyal citizen of Anaheim who has not done so already furnish a car for the parade. See the beautiful pageant prepared and given by local talent.
